Strings don't play by themselves. I play the flute. I remember a time when I complained about my student flute because I couldn't play a difficult passage. My teacher took it out of my hand and played the passage perfectly and said to me: "It's not the flute. It's time and dedication."

As someone who plays guitar/bass and listen to to videos like these a lot, I can tell you there is no tangible difference. All differences you may hear are just different playing styles/amp settings, not the strings making a difference. Saying standard bass strings and gold strings sound different is the same notion as saying different gauge strings sound different. There might be a super minute difference but in the end, it’s irrelevant. The only thing that makes bass strings sound different is the brand and depending on if the strings are flat wounds or round wounds. Even then, if you get super cheap strings, there isn’t a huge difference but it’s still noticeable. The main difference is that cheap strings never stay in tune and might be harder to play with.

@@owenklein1917 That's not quite correct. Gauge will MASSIVELY change your tone, as even though you may be in the same frequency with your "loudest" wavelengths, the overtones and string vibrations are 100 percent not the same. I have many different guitars, each with different gauges, and some with different string materials. They all do have differences, and while some are more obvious than others, there are many different factors that affect your sound. I haven't looked into these specific strings, but I'd imagine that if they're using gold, it's for the corrosion resistance (allowing the strings to last longer) more than anything.

@@DudeMcGuybro I looked it up and the strings are gold plated with a steel core, so I'm not sure exactly how big of a role the gold actually plays in the acoustics but I would think there isn't a significant difference in how long they last compared to regular strings. I feel like the bass sounds smoother in the vid but I'm not sure if that's just my imagination or just the way he is playing.

@@danshakuimo It is, indeed, gold plated, but it stills have an effect on the sound. One of the representative of Optima Strings (the company) is a music student at my school and I had the chance to try some of the guitar strings. There is a difference between the strings I used before and these ones. (A big part of it is because of the different resonance the materials have) Also, it is perfect for people who have some allergies with nikel and chrome, gold is hypoallergenic.

These strings were standard color until Charles started practicing. They changed gradually over 50 playthroughs of this piece. Our top scientistians are baffled.
