Foamy Hitohada gel is the often forgotten third option when it comes to making DIY squishies. It's a two-part polyurethane foam that cures extremely quickly, compared to the 48-36 hours of milky and transparent Hitohada Gels. I've used this one before in a video and found it very difficult to control. I decided to revisit it again and this attempt was equally tricky but I did learn a bit more about the material. You only need to pour 1/4 of it into the mould as it expands a lot while curing. The foam can't be touched after it's been poured because the texture will collapse. It's not ideal for very small "sticking out" details like ears. The final piece can be coloured with paint or pastel dust, and I recommend the latter the preserve the slow-rising qualities of the foam.

It seems like foamy Hitohada Gel is out of stock everywhere. I'm not that surprised as I can't imagine there being a huge demand for something so difficult to use. The other two types of Hitohada Gel can be found Etsy:

I don’t really get the point of tear apart squishies. You just end up with two squishies with raw exposed foam on the bottom and rough edges. And the tearing apart thing is only good for 5 seconds while you do it then end up with just two squishies.

I don't like the idea of ripping them apart either, but I think its gimmick is supposed to be like a friendship/couple mark kinda thing. No two rips are the same, and only the one originally ripped from it fits perfectly with it. But nah I'll stick with couple jewelry, not gonna tear my precious babies apart.

Reminds me of flex it foam 111 that we have in US. Some tips I’ve learned is that you need a heavy amount of mold release for certain materials (like 3D printed molds). Only stir for 15 second, any more will cause errors in the cast. And what temperature the room is, is super important and will change the texture of the cast! Flex it foam comes in huge packs and is super reliable if you follow the instructions well

You can get an extremely realistic-feeling skin effect with smooth-on silicone if you thin down Soama Foama with about 20% silicone thinner and 50% Slacker tactile mutilator. And slush-casting a thin layer of DragonSkin onto the mold interior before filling with foam can make it even more realistic-feeling. Another aspect that's super important for foaming resins is that you really want to use a fully-enclosed mold that can provide back-pressure against the resin as it expands.

This looks very interesting - I'm on a constant lookout for something to replace foam latex for stop motion puppets. A light set foam with a high flex like shore A 20, and a lasting durability. The problem with foam latex is the long process with many components, and the sizable amount you have to make for a batch to work, and the up to 8 hours long baking time. You've been through so many of these materials, and I wonder if you stumbled upon any that you would see fitting the purpose. That being a foamy clay that cures up, but stays flexible, or a substance that can be cast and baked. I can't find the product described in this video on Etsy, only the milky gel and the transparent one. So if you could post a link it would be great. All thoughts will be really appreciated. Thanks !!

Did you ever consider poking a very small hole in the locations where the ears were? This way it can push out the air while it expands and with how quickly it cures you shouldn't get much seepage.

I feel like the idea of pull apart squishes is cute but there is a lot of the raw foam showing and the key chain part it to hard to squeeze
