The Most Destructive Lie in Haikyuu!!

Ойын-сауық

The Most destructive Lie in haikyuu has finally reached it's fruition. This video talks about the full character arc of Hinata Shoyo from Middle School to Nationals, and how he got there ending season 4 of haikyuu. To the top. This video also addresses the idea of Genius, Talent, and being a 'Monster'. More so how these terms largely only hurt the user.

    Hey everyone! This video was much longer and had a few rewrites to make sure it was what I wanted. I'm really proud of how it turned out and appreciate any like, share, or comment - because it would be great if this video didn't flop. Also! I know I criticize Oikawa a lot in this video, but I want to clarify that I love him as a character, and what he added to the story. He's a great antagonist, but while I really like his mindset in regards to the story, the mindset in itself pretty much dooms the person to failure.

    Unfortunetly life is not a page of manga. Talents do exists and our in our bodies. Literally. Whether its in muscles bones and joints, senses, ability to grasp concepts or a tendency to follow a certain perspective. People are NOT created equal. The limit of how far we can go in those areas is set since day one. Try as much as you want but thats the truth. Luckily you dont need a set of talents to be incredibly good at something. That comes from honest old fashioned hard work.

    @@mordredvonumbra154 I do agree that people are born with natural skills and talents, but that alone won't take you very far unless cultivated with passion for what you're doing. As for those who aren't "talented ", I wouldn't say their limit is determined at birth. If they continuously grow with that same drive/passion and play to their strengths, wouldn't outsiders see him as talented? But like explained in the video, when two people have created completely different strengths, what really defines either of them as talented?

  • @mence5992

    @mence5992

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@emanchi8403 it depends man. sport is a field where natural attributes kicks more than everything. obviuosly there are countless of atlhete that are not "extraordinary talented" but still with dedication, nutrition and specific training can have an extremely successful career. The problem is when this kind of people want to be the best or one of the best. The reality is that they are destined to be disappointed. that's because there are people born with a lot of talents that can blow up all your dedication. Think about shaquille O'neal, he hated training and dieting, but still is one of the most dominant nba player of all time, and what if these kind of player decide to train as much as you? then you have MJ not only had an incredible vert, inhuman speed and not normal hands, he also was near impeccable from a tecnique point of view. The real point of haikyuu is that not all the talents are that evident. Take Hyakuzawa and Hinata. You could say that Hyakuzawa is more talented, because he is taller, stronger and has longer arms. But seeing them from close you could see that hyakuzawa is not that coordinated or fast and he lacks of stamina. Instead hinata is the fastest player in haikyuu, has an absurd vert, inhuman reflexes and inhuman instinct, also he can see the wall in slow motion and has the perfect body for being a good receiver. If you would question me, Hinata is the most talented of the two, even if at the beginning you would not even bet a penny on him. But no one could know, even Hinata. That's because some talents are not that obvious, so you have to train as hard as possible to see if you can bloom your talents. the show is not teaching that hardwork can beat talent, but that some talents can't be shown before you trained. "Have you found the limits of your abilities? even though your body, technique and mind haven't been perfected?" Josè Blanco

    @@Killerqueen2000 it’s less that he’s the mc and more that Hinata has high social skills and mental fortitude, honestly if he had the technical skill for it he would be an amazing setter The punishment was to be embarrassed by being delegated to ball boy when he’s known for wanting to play volleyball and spike but because of his own mental fortitude he was able to handle that “degradation” of being ball boy and improve. The thing is there are other characters who would’ve accepted the punishment just like Hinata, such as Nishinoya and Kageyama. These are characters who either have learned to push through hardship and their own pride in an attempt to grow and develop. I got off topic a bit but moral is, regardless of Hinata being the mc or not it was his mental fortitude that got him through the punishment that would’ve made most people quit. That coupled with his ability to socialize with basically anyone and everyone made it that he had people rooting for him and helping him even through his punishment. In Hinata's case, it was having the audacity to break through some social norms to get a chance to improve himself... even if getting the chance of just getting that chance was unlikely he still went for it. Remember, he wasn't accommodated unlike the other players invited there. He secured his own food, went there everyday on a bike in the freezing cold just to be a ball boy.

    He did downplay Oikawas character depth but I was waiting for Oikawa to mess up a receive tbh. Oikawa is the type of person who picks out in other people what he doesn't like about, or struggles with, himself. All throughout season one he was pointing out other peoples bad receives or telling them that they should work on them. He did it first with Tsukishima and Hinata in the Aoba and Karasuno practice match. During the official match, he talks about how important receives are, he says 'Behind every strong set up, is a soiled initial receive' along with other things about how important it is to get a good receive (i think thats the quote, in dub anyways. its something along those lines.) Also i dont know any other exact quotes but if you watch the match and listen for them he talks about receives a lot, it isnt noticeable unless you're looking for it but once you do notice you cant miss it. The missed receive was his fault, he was struggling with them and he messed up at the worst possible moment. He didn't let it get to him though, he accepted it for what it was and he grew from it and now he's on the Argentina volleyball team!! he isnt my favourite character but im very very proud of him (❁´◡`❁)

    I think Haikyuu has the best character writing in any single piece of media ever. Hinata is such a genius twist on the stereotypical shounen protagonist. In the beginning he's portrayed as a generic upbeat, dumb, kid but he isn't stupid in a traditional sense because he has moments of extreme focus and understanding even in the first episode. The first major shift in his character is after the block that lost them the match at the end of season one, from there he realizes he has to shift his perspective of the game. He begins with becoming a more well rounded spiker so that he isn't wholly reliant on Kageyama. From there it is the ball boy arc (in my opinion the best training arc in the series) where he is denied the part he wants to play, a spiker, so he is forced to shift his perspective again and the result is becoming a genuinely great well rounded player. The best moments of the show for me have been seeing how Hinata thinks through his challenges, and the solutions he comes up with to overcome these obstacles. The best pay off for Hinata so far has been episode 22 of season 4 where all his training culminated into one receive that finally says he doesn't have any weaknesses he can't overcome.

    one thing i have noticed as the anime went on was how Hinata managed to fall in love will volleyball himself. in the first season, his really only driving force to keep playing was the little giant. its a constant thought of "i want to be as good as the little giant" or "i want to be an ace just like him". but over time, we see him think this less and less. in season three and four, i didn't see a single instance of that mind set. there was no "i have to be at the same level as the little giant". i think that as he started playing and creating friendships, crafting his own playing style, and wanting to reach out to be better constantly, he made his own love for volleyball. there's no desire to be someone else, or rather be just like them, he's just himself, playing how he wants. before all he wanted was to be the ace. the cool position that gets the spotlight. but overtime, he realizes that it doesn't matter what position you play. weather it be a blocker or a setter, or anything else, everyone keeps the ball in play, and keeps on giving it their all. and we see him understand that slowly by him making his own as "the greatest decoy". he fell in love with his position, and with the game that hes playing, not needing to be anyone or anything else to achieve his goals. i rambled on for way longer than was intended, and i probably made no sense, but yeah, those are my thoughts.

    * Manga Spoiler Alert* As much as I love Hinata and I am glad you did justice to his character growth, I think that you missed a bit of Oikawa's Character. Kageyama and Ushijima's family members were already in Volleyball which helped them built a good foundation for the game, to begin with, while Oikawa and Hinata began their journey on different nodes. I think in Manga when Oikawa's backstory was explored it stated that he did not have the athleticism for this sport and Noya also said while playing with Seijou that Oikawa did not have great control over his serves earlier so he must have worked super hard to make it work. I feel like the points that you made that Oikawa was making excuses totally takes away his hard ward. He was working hard and everyone was acknowledging him except for himself. He set his mental expectations so high for himself that he was not able to meet those in earlier Highschool days. Obviously, he did not give up and kept on going and he dethroned Monster Generations in Olympics. Hinata is the bright sun of the sports Anime who pushes his limit but Oikawa represents the majority of normal Humans according to me. It's all subjective opinion and while Hinata is a bit more special for me, I think Oikawa deserves more recognition for how he also overcame his Mental barrier to reach the top. Edit: Please note that Argentina vs Japan match is not out completely . I am not saying he won against Monster Generation. He went to Argentina and became their setter and was able to play against everyone he saw himself inferior to in his Highschool days. Thank you for all the likes.

Kita was talking about how atsumu would put so much time and effort into his play, Everything from 1-20 and a to z Everything he can explore, he will. Thats where oikawa falls behind imo He saw kageyama's spatial awareness, pin point sets amd his intuition on the game as a gift. And he hated how much he wanted to have that gift. Thats when iwaizumi tells him its a 6on6 game, dont forget. He takes that notion as a weapon. His only way to rival with blessed people. Puts his whole self into being the steroids and offense tower of a team that it becomes his talent. Even Ushiwaka sees him as a monster. He takes this way of fighting and does it from 1-20, a to z over and over again Explore every option in that realm and becomes what other people will call a genius. That’s the « talent » Iwaizumi wanted him to notice. Because of what happened in his life, Kageyama forgot that part, and focused on his skills only (as out of this world they are) while Oikawa did strictly the opposite : develop hi team potential rather than awesome raw skills (even though he trains hard on this point too). He knows he can’t keep up with Kageyama’s gift so he worked on something that Kageyama lacked of : this is what make them complementary. Because once Kageyama understand that and begin to trust his team again he’s the ultimate setter and Oikawa knows that. I think he voluntarily refused to teach him that because deep inside he knew that it was the only thing Kageyama needed to be the best. So he instead focused on what he thought could bring him this gift, until he hurt his knee.

You can only say one is making excuses when they try to run from their responsibilities but NOT ONCE did Oikawa in the entire series ever turn his back on the sport or on his way of playing volleyball. He knew Kageyama and Hinata were talented and seeing their growth he accepted what most others did as well, that they would eventually surpass him. I know considering his talents and dreams he should have had a little more faith in himself but that's easier said than done for a high school volleyball player. Oikawa was one of the most realistic characters in the story.. His last conversation with Ushijima after their defeat against Karasuno was living proof of his resolve. It's easy to call him childish and someone who made excuses but that's just blatantly ignoring the amount of effort that guy put in day in and day out to get good at Volleyball INSPITE of all the odds. I don't think they misunderstood Oikawa's character, the video just wasn't about Oikawa. It was more about how Oikawa feels about "genius". And let's be honest, the way Oikawa feels about Kageyama is both a blessing and a curse to him. A blessing in how Kageyama (unknowingly) pushes him to be as good as he can be, but a curse in how he views Kageyama. He's so threatened by him, barely seeing him as another human being with feelings. It's rude, as Kita said. I'm sure some people (Kageyama potentially included) view Oikawa as a genius himself. But we the audience knows how far Oikawa pushes himself day in and day out. Kageyama does the same thing. And Oikawa almost certainly doesn't think of this when it comes to Kageyama. Calling him a genius and then hating him for it is not only childish, but detrimental to Oikawa in a way. He needs to stop viewing Kageyama as some insurmountable obstacle that will surpass him. Calling him a "genius", in that insulting way Oikawa does, is completely disregarding the work Kageyama has put in. And that's not fair to Kageyama or to Oikawa himself. I completely understand why he feels that way though. I think most people do, and that's one of the reasons some people dislike him. He's one of if not the most relatable and best written character in Haikyuu!! And like you said, he's also a fighter. If you've finished the manga, you know just how much of a fighter he is, lol.

That's also what (slight spoiler) Jose Blanco told him: 'People who are naturally better than you, have been different from you ever since they were born.' But he also learns from him that he shouldn't complain about that if he hasn't even done everything he possibly can. So he keeps following his own path. Thats what most people dont get about genius and talent. Its that the amount of work put into it gets multiplied by it. Its not addition but multiplication. Equation talent+effort=result is wrong. Equation talentxeffort=result is true. Thus if a genius and a regular person put in the same amount of work, genius gets more results back. Thats why they are superior. If they work as hard as everyone else noone will get better than they. Lets put it in a single a way. Studying. A regular person usually reads a segment few times, then focuses on important parts and finally focuses on memorizing the data. A genius reads whole segment 3 times and has understood it, knows the concept and memorized it. Without any training. See the difference?

    This one is going to be long : I started to love volleyball when I first watched haikyuu. I fell in love with the characters, plot, but mainly the atmosphere of volleyball, that this anime conveyed, I wanted to feel that. So after that, I and two of my friends, that also loved volleyball, joined a volleyball team that I found on the internet. We exercised a lot, and I worked hard, but I always felt like I fell behind two of my friends, due to our coach picking them more for practices, than me, and me just observing their skills and comparing them to mine. I felt worse than them, not just as a player, but as a person, because I just couldn't put that much work into it. I hated this feeling. After that I started coming less often on time for practices, some days even skipping them, just not to feel this pressuring feeling. But then I felt crushed. One day our coach decided to split our group in two, one group for stronger players, and the other for weaker ones. And it was that moment, when he picked two of my friends, but not me, that I just broke. "This is it, this is the ultimate evidence of me being worse", " I am worse" - I started thinking. I couldn't bear this feeling, so I left the team after that. And tried to remove anything that connects to volleyball from my life, just not to think about it. I cried, a lot. I started to resent volleyball. And particularly Haikyuu, where I saw all these "monsters" and felt like I could never be like them. And it stayed like this until several things happened. Fast forward to me after a year or so, we are playing volleyball at school. I was hyped, but not as though I forgot everything that happened before, I just wanted to play volleyball after such a long time. We started playing, and during this game, I realized something. I still felt this exiting feeling for my teammate, that played good, to serve, and I knew he served good, and I wanted him to crush the other team, and when he did, I felt such an intense feeling of excitement and happiness, that is hard to describe. Save, toss, spike, and all those little moments, and feeling that I didn't realize I still felt about them led me to a conclusion: "I still was in love with volleyball". But not only for anime, but for all of those feelings it gave me. I decided to return to it. And I felt that: "I still want to play". And now, after I started practicing again, I still had thoughts that I am just not as good as others, that they were just born like this, that they were just better, like my friends before. But this phrase of Kita that I heard in this video, and the way it was communicated that really opened my eyes, that people are not just born as "monsters", but they work hard for it. Where any other would put 2 hours, they put all 5, "where others practice on a scale of 1-10, others do it on the scale of 1-20, or a more effective 10, or a denser 10", and because of videos like this these, I am really reminded that I can also be good, that I can still improve, that I can still play volleyball. So thank you very much for making this video, it inspires me to keep going. Thank you.

    I love Oikawa's growth, as even in the anime thus far, as towards the end, you see that he has started to push himself even more so and to not be stunted by "monsters". Even when watching the nationals, he's now seeing these "monsters" as motivation to push himself as he's continuing his own training. Seeing him in tha manga also shows this growth, without getting into spoilers. I'm glad he's begun to push past that stunt mindset

    Oikawa is a variation of the "too angry to die" trope. This man hated the thought of losing SO MUCH he became an Argentinian just so he could actually face the greatest players of Japan. Love the man, he's a diehard realist, you could argue that his desperate clinging onto talent dragged him down, because let's face it- talent exists, a lot more in someone and a lot less in someone else. but at the same time he works hard as hell just so he could stand up to the harsh "reality" he hangs over his face all the time.

When I saw it back in the day I thought that were words of resignation but after this last season I understanded that what Oikawa said was that he was not going to give up, because if he did then he would never have the chance to discover his talent (or make the talent bloom as he says)

Seeing hinata’s growth in his weaker areas was one of the best things to see in this season, and his mindset is so sunny and inspiring. Yeah, I feel that while Oikawa at the beginning of the series he felt like this in the flashback with his coach he commits to making himself a "monster" which is reflective in the process. While he does view Kageyama and Ushijima as naturals he still takes every opportunity to face and challenge them he gets to the point that he rather keep trying to surpass Ushijima rather than giving in and joining his team. He constantly seeks to improve despite believing he is overall worst than these "naturals" which I feel is a toxic but understandable mindset. Despite him being so gifted and driven himself, he refuses to acknowledge that and sees himself as inferior which is really realistic. Even Ushijima the person who he's competed against this whole time thinks he's one of the greatest setters and wants him to come to Shirtorizawa. Kageyama who he views as a monster literally based his whole initial playing style off of Oikawa down to the jump serve yet Oikawa himself doesn't view all that hard work and natural talent as anything special which is why I think his coaches words are the best way to confront this feeling. Stop worrying about what others have and you don't and find the limits of your own skill. Only after doing that can you complain. This I feel finally clicks at the end of season 2 where despite losing Oikawa still wholehearted intends on overcoming and defeating Ushijima. Even though Oikawa complains about this "unfairness" where I feel that he differs from the players Kita was talking to and by extension, the audience is in the fact that despite thinking this he keeps going on and finding new ways to compete. TLDR: Oikawa is a monster in everyone but his own eyes which is pretty depressing but leads to that monster like work ethic the video talks about but just comes with a side of bitching now and then.

    I LOVE this analysis of Kita's 'rant' and Hinata's growth. This message is such an important one, no matter who you are or where you come from, because we're all being conditioned to have this 'talent', 'genius', and 'monster' mentality. We see what people have become, the end result of their successes, and how awesome the rewards they reap are, but we fail to notice the sweat and blood and tears and time it took to get there. And more importantly: we fail to realize that we can do it too. Your analysis reminds me of Carol Dwek's idea of a Fixed Mindset v.s. a Growth Mindset. A fixed mindset, exhibited by the two players Kita spoke to, can only see the results, the end products, and compare that to where they stand now. Kita, who exhibits a growth mindset, looks at the constant, continuous, and effective effort. He looks at the process, because ultimately that's what it is, it's the everyday little steps and conscious effort that allows the people they call 'monsters' and 'geniuses' to get where they are. And the thing is: they are still mid-process. Their progress NEVER stops, and that's the destructive lie in a fixed mindset- that there will come a time when you can't improve, that you will find your apex, but no such apex exists! Check put this video if you want to learn more about Growth Mindsets: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mp2dp8eGfprckrQ.html I also recommend to anyone (especially college students) to read On Course by Skip Downing. It covers very similar topics that help to enhance self-improvement. And can I just say: "The title is unimportant when the role is filled" GOSH I love that!!! New favorite quote regarding leadership, because it's so true. The best leaders lead by example, by their own continuous progress and perserverance. We can all achieve what these so called 'monsters', 'geniuses', and 'talented' individuals have. We just have to be willing to work for it, day after day. Anyway... AWESOME video and analysis!! I feel like he's completely misunderstood Oikawa's character though. Oikawa I agree was a bit pessimistic to begin with but he never let the negativity stop him from working hard. You can only say one is making excuses when people try to run from their responsibilities but NOT ONCE did Oikawa in the entire series ever turn his back on the sport or on his way of playing volleyball. He knew Kageyama and Hinata were talented and seeing their growth he accepted what most others did as well, that they would eventually overcome him. I know considering his talents and dreams he should have had a little more faith in himself but that's easier said than done for a high school volleyball player. Oikawa was one of the most realistic characters in the story.. His last conversation with Ushijima after their defeat against Karasuno was living proof of his resolve.

  • @Hatchling99

    @Hatchling99

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@castaside I agree with that analysis of Oikawa, the Adachi comparison hurt me a little because I feel like Adachi put in a 3/10 on his best days while Oikawa did everything on a scale of 1-10 at a 10, but it goes back to what Kita was saying about the denser 10, Oikawa is a "shitty guy" as Iwaizumi put it, (and that's one of the things I love about his character, and I know a few people like him), and instead of always trying to improve/better himself for instance when Kageyama joined his middle school team as a "genius setter" he became jealous and anxious instead of seeing it as healthy competition to push and improve himself with or even learn from. Oikawa's mindset of people having innate ability/limits is somewhat true, but seeing someone who is enraptured by a genuine passion and love for the sport improving as much as they can for the sake of the love of what they're doing regardless of any sort of limits is what really pushes someone into that denser 10 or A-Z, I still think Oikawa is my favorite character, and his mindset has some flaws, but that's not to say he isnt well written as a realistic individual with a passion for volleyball himself! Hidings talked about Oikawa a bit on the twitch streams when we've gotten into haikyuu discussions and I think the video glosses over his appreciation for Oikawas character a bit and is focused more on his deterministic mindset

    I love this video! And to be frank, I would even say that by the end of the second Seijoh match, even Oikawa has realized that the notion of genius is outdated and not something he should focus on. His speech “instinct is something you polish, talent is something you make bloom” shows that he learned that the only way up is to continue and not give up. Oikawa was never intended to be proof that you can only succeed with talent alone. Imo it’s rather that many fans only focus on the “not a genius” side of Oikawa, because it’s more relatable. But it’s only that, relatable; feeling like you can never catch up to those monsters is a normal feeling and I think it’s beautifully portrayed through Oikawa, so I wouldn’t go and say that oikawa’s character is toxic (which you didn’t imply specifically in the video, but it did come off like as if you did).

    Ya know, this is a great video, but being honest i feel like it glosses over Oikawa a little bit. Much as i hate to admit it, he's one of the most interesting characters, and seeing his growth from his admittedly atrocious attitude towards kageyama in MS to his being able to basically unlock his old rival's potential ("have you even tried to give him the tosses he wants?") shows amazing growth, not only knowing that this will make them tougher opponents, but knowing that what he's talking about might not even be something he himself would try to attempt (the perfect backspin pass that takes kageyama a LOT of montages to master). Seeing how invested he is in following Karasuno post defeat (watching their match vs shiratorizawa in disguise, listening to them over his headphones as he jogs) could be read as obsessive/wrongheaded, but i read it as him being invested in shedding his pride and pain associated with the match, and trying to grow that supportive streak that he showed when giving Kageyama that crucial bit of advice.

    I feel like you've misunderstood oikawa a bit (well a whole lot), oikawa's character and arc is literally just what video gets at. He was burdened by constantly losing to the blinding strength of ushiwaka and when kageyama enters the fray it's the thought of being surpassed by a kid two years younger than him that haunted him-he saw kageyama "someone who has probably been playing for two years lesser than I have and shouldn't even be nearly as athletic as me yet". The entire point of all of that was that he was looking at things through a broken lens. That's what the final karasuno v seijoh rally accentuated (and actually a whole lot of oikawa centered episodes too). "Instinct is something you polish, talent is something you make bloom" and "how do you know you surpass him, even though haven't realised the peak of your skill and prowess, how do you even know you're at your limit" show that clear as day. Oikawa's arc wasn't just him realising that his team mattered more than his self, that was just a facet of him realising that intuitive sense wasn't all that drove home success in sport, that there are other things one can do to win, other things that compensate for ones lack of effortless skill. The point of his character was showing us that there is no point in backing down from what we perceive as pure genius. Even in the first interhigh oikawa says "I may not be a match for your rapid rate of evolution Tobio..." not "I can't compare with your genius"

    But what Oikawa never considered was that Kageyama doesn’t improve at a faster pace than him. He began playing volleyball when he was literally a TODDLER. This is what restrained Oikawa back then. Thinking that he couldn’t beat a kid whom he considered as genius, when this kid is just a hard worker as he is.

    @@maouimaisnon2535 but why do people forget that what hindered Oikawa and what pushed him forward was always present in him. That Oikawa held both kind of thoughts simultaneously in him, that he may not be able to beat kageyama or ushijima because they are monsters, but he would beat them even though they are monsters. Oikawa absolutely does have the negative thinking and insecurities, but not even once ever did he stopped trying and he tried in the hopes to beat people he falsely considered naturally better than him. It hurts when people makes Oikawa's character to be the type who makes excuses. Because even with his negative mindset he never did once made any excuse, because a person making excuses gives up, or works less hard, or is happy after losing a match against a person considered a genius. But oikawa would be frustrated and try even harder to beat them next time. Oikawa's mindset also have this "how dare someone implied that I can't beat genius" attitude and this is the opposite of making excuses. And eventually he even grew out of his negative mindset as well by the time he was a full grown adult. So if even though oikawa had a pretty negative mindset early on, he never made any sort of excuses. And well what you gonna do if you're that sort of person who overthinks a lot or give in to pessimistic mindset quicker. Everyone is not like hinata with his optimistic attitude. Oikawa is just the night version of hinata, or hinata is the sun version of Oikawa. Some people are just like that, give in to negative emotions quicker, and Oikawa is an inspiration to all those because despite being that sort of person, he never gave up, or made excuses, and continue to work hard and follow his passion with his pride intact and achieved his dreams. Some people would be like hinata who are more positively pre disposed. Someone inner workings of mind are also things that cannot be changed in a flip or ever.

    @@maouimaisnon2535 it's not that Kageyama isn't a hard worker. It's just that he was born with a lot more inherent talent. Oikawa, while really really good at volleyball, wasn't a born prodigy. Kageyama worked hard but a lot of things probably came easier for him. Think of it this way: they both put in serious work but Oikawa had to work twice as hard to achieve half as much. That's what Oikawa's whole shtick is, the fact that there will be people who are more talented than you but you can achieve just as much as them even though your path may be longer and more arduous.

    @@maouimaisnon2535 But you have to think about it from Oikawa’s 13-14 year old days. When I believe he started developing the feeling that Kageyama was a genius. He was just a teenager who didn’t understand his emotions. He thought he was below him and that he couldn’t beat him no matter how hard he tried because Kageyama was simply, well, a genius. In his eyes at least. Oikawa just never grew out of that mindset, most likely because it ate him up inside. Plus, a lot of things probably came a lot easier for Kageyama since he started volleyball earlier. Oikawa was only a kid when he started feeling jealous of Kageyama and to a degree hatred. Coming from someone who is barely older than Oikawa in those scenes I can see where he was coming from. He didn’t have a strong hold on his emotions because he was only a kid. I mean, imagine someone you viewed as a genius and you thought was better than you come up to you and ask you to teach them stuff. That would be a slap to the face. Oikawa worked his ass off, just like Kageyama, I’m not saying he didn’t but, I’m pretty sure athletically Kageyama got things a lot easier. I’m also pretty sure Oikawa saw Kageyama in the same light he did Ushiwaka. (As scene in that one clip from season 1?) This might not make sense but it makes sense to me in my head and I’m not really sure how to put it into to words. 🧍

    Loved this connection between Oikawa's Talent-Sense speech and Kita's Monster speech! Also, I think that the first one to recognise Hinata as a true challenger was not Kenma, but Kageyama! Though their rivalry playing out is actually the entirety of Haikyuu hahaha

    I mean it’s kinda obvious Kageyama was Hinata’s true challenger. That much was painfully clear in the first few episodes. Regardless if they were playing on the same team they were always going to be rivals. Still friends but rivals and challengers regardless of which side of the court they’re on. Personally, I do think at the time, Kenma was a true challenger for Hinata. But he was not the one who was set in stone for him. Hinata’s goal with Kenma was to make him enjoy the sport. It helped him get better but in the end it was for Kenma’s sake. Not his own. 🤷

Not to mention how the rewatch value is pretty much infinite (+ 2nd time around once you get to know more about the players on the other side of the net it brings up the stack to a whole new level since it makes you root for both)

    I think this is a wonderful point to bring out. I feel like when I first watched the show I was just amazed by the cool volleyball matches and missed a lot of the plot and character growth. But watching it for a second time I came to realize that the show is more than just cuties swinging at a ball. There is so much to relate to even if you don't play a sport. The idea that successful athletes/people have made it to where they are just because of their "natural god given talent" is such a - ahem excuse me for i am about to meme - weak mindset. It is just so wonderful to watch you and listen to how well you are able to articulate these themes. So thanks for the great video broski! cnt wait for the next one

I think it was a really eye opening scene that showed how much effort and growth he has experience.
