The only thing that would have made stubby story better is if he pissed in a German soldier's helmet and then said German Soldier put his helmet back on the realized I do is now covered in dog pissed

A dog that got a purple heart. Wow.

oh my god the dog is able to give a salute that is so damn cute

The MWD, Military Working Dogs, have saved MANY soldiers throughout the years and Stubby being the first MWD was recognized for just that. Unfortunately, the MWD of the Vietnam era were not so fortunate as most, if not all were considered by the military to be excessive equipment and left in Vietnam. I have had the pleasure of speaking to many dog handlers who were there and to this day they grieve for their battle buddies. Today MWD are brought home and are reunited, if possible, with their handlers.

i actually would like to know more about his owner/trainer dogs can be smart but hiding a dog from the military and training it to salute among other feat is impressive

There was a bear in the Polish army in ww2, it's a pretty awesome story also. Simon and team, as always a wonderful presentation, and fascinating. I don't comment much, because they would all sound the same, you are all doing a wonderful job.

Idk man when he was visiting former President Wilson he looked awfully like a Pit, not that there aren’t obvious physical similarities between the two breeds. The SGT. looked a bit too stocky to be a Boston Terrier.

This would make a great movie. Make it with almost no speaking but just a dog innocently watching the things occurring around him. For example. Have him bark to wake up soldiers for a gas attack, and have the camera behind him while he watches all the soldiers panic in confusion, some grab masks, some grab rags, some of them fall down for no apparent reason. Then someone comes along wearing a mask and tries to calm him down while they put a mask on him, just petting him and telling him through his mask that its gonna be ok. Then they run off and he just lays down waiting for someone to play with him.

The Best Boy

Stubby is also viewed as a boston terrier, boston terriers were a medium dog breed back in the day. Bostons haven't always been the 20 pound little bundles of love that they are now.

I wonder if any soldier resented the dog for going home with more metals then he did.

Now don't get me wrong Stubby was an awesome dog but from the book I read about him there are a couple things that, assuming the book was right, that this video got wrong, 1st the rank of Sergeant was not an official rank but one his men gave him, 2nd the medals on his coat belonged to his owner and the men of his company(I'm not sure I got this term right). There have been several pitbulls that have fought in wars and had their men dedicated to them like Stubby such as Sallie of the 11th Pennsylvania infantry who has a statue at gettysburg
