Humanity has a love hate relationship with the Ocean. As it has plagued us and helped us all our existence, it commands a deep respect if you wish to survive. One of the reasons this respect must exists, is simply for the animals that live within. What were originally thought to be tales of monsters, have actually turned out to have a bit of truth to them. As a cruise ship sets off it would be besieged by one of the creatures of old. But how has this animal evaded detection for so long? Lets discuss that in todays episode

This is uncannily timed. For years i've had the vague end of a movie in my head where a guy jumps off a ship and breaks his ankles, then there's monsters on an island. As much as her being locked in the fridge was a death Sentence, it ended up saving trillian. The octalus hunted by sensing movement. She was unconscious in a sealed and soundproofed environment. My only thought on this film, which I love as does my husband is this. Clearly it. Started grabbing passengers when they ran out towards the lifeboats. Why didn’t more passengers hide up in the higher decks of the ship. Some could have hidden in storerooms or areas where there were lots of background noise. I would have hidden with my husband in a linen store. We have been on a cruise before. No pipes or toilets and linen could be used to insulate the room so as long as your quiet there wouldn’t be any movement.

Watched this movie on TV when I was a kid. Scared the hell out of me. Especially the scene where the captain gets eaten. Fun fact about the guns used, it’s a fusion of a mini-gun and a Calico pistol. I absolutely love Calicos. Their design is very “unique”. If you showed one to a random person they’d probably immediately think it’s a toy laser gun. Their .22 pistol has a 100 round capacity drum magazine. You can make the argument that while the gun itself cannot have a feasible 1000 round mag, it is not difficult at all for one person carry 1000 rounds of ammunition.

I really liked this movie, which sadly didn't get the recognition it deserves. Another movie that doesn't get the recognition I feel it deserves, also from the 90's, is the movie, "Virus", which was adapted from the comic by the same name, has a good cast including Alec Baldwin & Jamie Lee Curtis, also takes place on a big ship in the open sea, and also features monsters. The effects are mostly physical with some stop motion puppetry, as this was made in early 90 which hadn't yet perfected the art of CGI, but I personally appreciate practical affects. Some people hated it but I loved it.

Only a few good movie lovers remember "Virus"! You can't beat that plot. I remember "Leviathan" which cast Ernie Hudson from "Ghostbusters", and Hector Elizondo from "Beverly Hills Cop 3". These kinds of 90's horror movies had incredible storylines, and characters. This is why these movies can be rewatched over and over and enjoyed the same way as when we enjoyed them in the 90's. Deep Star Six was a good one as well but not like "Deep Rising" and "Leviathan". These movies got it all going for them. Great storylines, a talented cast, a mix of horror and comedic scenes and perfect special affects of that time. I must add "Relic" was another good one.

I think I listened to a directors commentary, but I’m pretty sure the island was supposed to be the Island of Monsters from Greek mythology, and the creature was Scylla and/or Charybdis that guarded its shores. Hence why the ship was called the Argonautica, clear reference to the Greek myth of the Argonaut.

As a German I remember seeing that movie back in the days in the cinema, but it was called "octalus" here, also since it was the 90ties some naughty bits were cut out of several media since they were deemed to gruesome for the youth to see, so yeah the half eaten dude in the thumbnail I hardly can remember (yeah he was spät out of that tentacle but him standing up again was most certainly not in the version I saw, that I would remember) but to be honest except the mouth on the tentacles the story I had forgotten ... My point being, some silly cuts where more noticeable especially in video games, to ensure the titles could be played in Germany, Resident Evil 3 for example had the blood of the zombies colored grey, what not that bad tbh but they also blinked away if they were defeated thus eliminating the horror of not knowing if the zomby will rise again ... Strangely enough in RE4 the enemies dissolve now as well in uncut Version ... On the other side RE4 isn't a game worthy of that title anyway but I digress Other games like the original PS1 RE2 were right out banned, the reason seems to be you were able to "kill" humans, allegedly the Brad Vickers, even though you had to get to the police station without using health items or reloading to get to him iirc

Roanoke, I’m going to correct you. That is not a plasma torch, that is an oxyacetylene torch. The main reason she isn’t doing anything with it is because she has the neutral flame (the very tiny inside cone) way too far away from what she’s trying to cut. However, she shouldn’t be using any form of cutting tool it that weather, whether it be oxyacetylene or plasma. One uses a very very flammable gas that is under a lot of pressure, the other uses a shit ton of electricity. It seems like the people who made the movie have no concept of firearms, or welding/cutting.
