The Most Capable Bike You Can Pedal Up The Mountain

I've been riding the Transition Spire for the past year and these are my thoughts on the bike.

Excellent review my dude. Riding the Spire in BC has been incredible and I can't wait to bring it home in Washington for some of those sweet trails

Great review. FYI for anyone with the float X2 fox is sawping them out free for a 2024 model (updated internals rep said). My x2 out of box was bad. Im blown away how well it pedals so far, even with a bad shock.

Your review of the Spire is one of the best I’ve seen or read. I’ve had one for about 6mo and I agree with all your observations about the Spire. It’s so much more of an all round trail bike than I expected when I bought it. So much so that I rarely want to ride my Evil Offering because it seems like the Spire can do everything the Offering can do and more. Most of the reviews that I’ve read about this bike make such a huge deal about how long it is, but I think they’re blowing it out of proportion.

Thank you! Sounds like we had a similar experience. I haven’t ridden my Spur since I picked up the Spire because it’s so much fun. Really surprising how fun it is on fast and chunky blue trails.

While riding with you in the Midwest, I got the negatives of this platform solidly imbedded in my slightly plastic aging brain. All jokes aside, It was refreshing to see the bike come alive in its birthplace of Bellingham. Really rad review!

You can definitely attest to the overbiked misery I was experiencing on the lower angle stuff. Wish I had the camera rolling so I could show my live disdain in the review 😂

Great review! After hearing this, and listening to Andrew Gehn have very similar praise for his Spire, I’d definitely have one of these in my garage, IF I wasn’t located in the Twin Cities Metro area. I just can’t pull the trigger on so much bike with the relatively flat and smooth trails in my neighborhood. Would be fun to have up in Duluth and the North Shore though…. Loved the riding clips you put together on this vid 👌

I’m on a Santa Cruz Tallboy. Works great for the majority of trails I ride. I’d love to get something a little beefier. Did you like your ripmo? As of now that’s my top next-in-line choice!

Great overview of the Spire with all the gnarly footage from the PNW and Great Lakes Region to back up the talking points! Agree with everything in the video, Spire smashes the steeps while somehow not punishing the rider on the climb back up like the geometry numbers would suggest, even with both of us running full cush core and double down tires. Rode in the low 62.5 setting before switching to the "high" 63 degree and it rides better that way, less pedal strikes. I will also add that Transition has some excellent customer service, my Spire's bottom bracket shell delaminated from the frame unfortunately but Transition stands by their product and I'm on a new Huckleberry XL front triangle this season, time to GiddyUp!

Nice! Sounds like we are running pretty similar setups. How did you like the bike in the slack setting? Notice a big different outside of less pedal strikes?

  • @AndrewGehn

@@LoamerMTB I didn’t notice a big enough difference to justify all the pedal strikes AND bottom bracket strikes in the low position. Maybe it felt a fraction better on the steepest of steeps like the ending rock roll on Dr. Diablo in Piedmont, but the front wheel wanders even more and you sit even deeper between the wheels. Might be worth it on steep, smooth flow trails where rock strikes aren’t an issue, but 63 is definitely the right setting for the vast majority of riders.

Great review, looking at a spire as my next bike now. My current bike is a v5 Nomad (27.5) but at 6’5, I’m thinking 29er might be the way forward. Do you have any experience to compared the nomad or sentinel to the spire? Cheers

I’d say the Sentinel would be a better all around bike if it’s your only bike but if you have a trail bike as well the Spire might be a good addition. I don’t know much about the Nomad vs Spire. Haven’t ridden any SCs but they look sick!

@@LoamerMTB Yeah, I keep jumping between the sentinel and the spire. Would be my only bike, so guess the sentinel might be the better shout! Looking for the most poppy, playful bike possible, that can still handle some uplift/bike park days and I think sentinel checks the boxes.
