Burning incense is not necessarily done to burn away bad energy, some people burn it because of how amazing it smells

Hi, Hausa here! In Hausa weddings there are basically 4 or more (depending on where your from) different payments made in order to get the bride! There is the most important one which is her mehr/sadaki aka Bride Prize…. That is the one paid directly to the bride and is decided prior to The wedding it self!but given to the bride after! Then there’s is Kamu which means “Catching of the bride” which is the one you witnessed!! This one is not usually decided prior as the grooms side just bring what they want and the bride’ friends negotiate between them and grooms side (Family) though the groom side know what they are giving! the bridesmaids don’t!.. the money is shared between the bridesmaids not her family! Then there’s another one called Siyan Baki which technically translates to buying of the mouth! Depending on the state of the north where I’m from (sokoto) after the (kai amarya) which is taking the bride to her new house the groom’s friends have to pay the bridesmaids… for safely delivering the groom’s “first class package” and in order for them to leave the groom to his “business” 😉 🙈 which is finally being alone with his bride. It's a way to show support and contribute to the celebration… usually done without any adults though just the groomsmen and bridesmaid! The bridesmaids have to ginger the grooms side by really selling how amazing his bride is and the qualities she has which equals the more money they deserve for delivering her safely 😂 there’s another one but a lot of families don’t do them mainly sokoto! But these three are also done in kano!
