Make sense when you consider it's a podcast that specifically works to not have "dead air" or moments like that. Ideally you really should just have enough questions/ideas prepared that you're not sitting there with a ton of silence. You also want to have at least a basic enough understanding of what's being talked about that you have some fallback questions or topics to fall back onto if the current discussion isn't leading anywhere. For those wondering why the last interviewee said his life was in danger from the subject, it's most likely because he was talking about a specific type of mushrooms, portobello, that are apparently a heavy business interest of the mafia; he would talk about how they actually have no medicinal benefits and about how they are possibly carcinogenic, much to the dislike of the mafia who then in turn threatened him. Um Joe was 100% right with that rock, paper, scissors thing. That guy was absolutely insane for even thinking that. I also think Joe was just trying to say how impossible that would even be to let that happen and how its such a unique, specific, nonsensical thing to even bet or find an equivalent too that it’s literally impossible to let that happen or find something to compare it to that he could give him. Thats like saying “Hey Mr. President, I get to run the country and make any laws, wars, anything I want for a week if I beat you in rock, paper, scissors right now”. That doesnt even make sense and no that guy LITERALLY did NOT have anything equivalent that he could have bet Joe to make that bet “fair”. So Joe was 100% correct with what he said, thats just not possible.

The last clip with Paul Stamets actually got me interested in mycology after researching why he seemed deadly serious not talking about the negative side affects of Portabella mushrooms. Its very interesting, so much so, that his best friend Steven Pollock(a famous mycologist in the 70's) was mysteriously murdered over the subject. Some speculated it was the government since all the files about the case was destroyed.

We shouldn’t consider compliments as awkward. The way they were talking wasn’t awkward at all and he let him know he was going to do something unconventional by giving him so many compliments which would typically be awkward but wasn’t with the warning. It was a testament on how we shouldn’t be uncomfortable giving or reviewing complements

Mike Tyson is way smarter and more zen and introspective than people realize. He’s really funny too but he’s not constantly joking. I know people know this now but I think many people just assume he’s more like the caricature he’s portrayed as in media. I think that’s why Rogan approached what he had to say like that.
