Hey Everyone,
Today, we're talking about the MOST ANNOYING feature, in F Series BMWs... Auto Start-Stop. Here's the best part, we're going to show you how to code it out with CARLY! Don't have Carly? Click below to get yours:

The IIHS says that the goal of auto start stop is to save between 3-10% in fuel costs, but I personally find it super annoying and it drives me nuts. In today's video, we'll walk you step by step through the process to set it to a memory mode, which means, however you leave it.. it will stick there.
Thanks for watching and please try everything at your own risk. If you’re interested in professional installation by Kies Motorsports, please click here: www.kiesmotorsports.com/pages...

I had a long discussion with a guy on bimmerpost about why I don't think autostart is a that bad, and we realized one big difference between our cars. My car is a manual. It never hit me that every time you guys come to a stop when inching in traffic, coming to a stop sign, etc. it stops. In cars with manual transmissions, the car doesn't shut off until the clutch is released. So during my normal driving when inching in traffic with the clutch depressed, the car never stops. Or if I'm coming to a stop behind a line of cars but the light is green and I know I'm moving forward soon, I just keep the clutch depressed. Otherwise if I know I'm coming to a stop for a while, I just let the clutch out and the car turns itself off. That has no real effect on my driving experience and I'm not wasting gas. I guess you could think of the clutch pedal as sort of an aux autostart button in itself. So the real solution is buy one with a manual trans (:

Another way you can get rid off it is to turn it off once, and save the setting on your driver seats with one of the bottoms (1 or 2 bottoms) just like when you save the seat position. I have the 2015 335i f30, idk if this works on the older models, but it should. Try it.

My 2015 F56 MINI has the memory feature enabled by default. Coincidentally, I don't mind the Auto Start-Stop feature, at least with the manual gearbox - it really doesn't get in the way of normal driving with a stick-shift. As soon as you hit the clutch to shift out of neutral and into first, the engine spins right up. So, I keep it on most of the time. If I want to keep the engine running (like, the stoplight is going to change in 10 seconds…) I can just hold the clutch pedal down to temporarily disable the start-stop feature.

I used both manual and auto with this feature(F20andF32) with manual it is the best thing it saves you fuel and when you are used to it you can engage and disengage it without coming to a complete stop. That said with auto it is a nightmare, countless times i was too late to drive away from a red light or to inch forwards in heavy traffic. Also both my cars were diesels and it is quite shaky to use. And last thing is, i believe it is designed for highway use not for heavy traffic i have met a couple of people who cracked flywheels with N47 diesels.

Learned something recently. It isnt the starter that starts your car on auto stop. The cars ecu shuts all cylinders off and dumps one cylinder with more fuel and leaves it in the up position. When you take your foot off of the brake the car send voltage to that spark plug with the fuel ready position cylinder which ignites the fuel starting the other cylinders. I personally dont mind it

I did the whole ESys and cable build to code mine. Fo Sho, this is much much easier but it isn't clear to me if you have access to everything like you do via ESys. So, the most annoying thing with my F30 and every BMW I've ever owned: why does the fan have to be ON every time I start the car? Next one: why does the fan go to MAX when I hit the front defrosters? I ALWAYS have to turn that shit down. It would also be nice if in the instrument cluster, it always comes up in the last state I left it. For example, I like to leave it in RANGE. I ALWAYS have to hit the stalk button a couple times to get it there every time I start the car. But, yeah, thankfully we can code out the annoying start/stop crap. :o) Otherwise, my F30 is AWESOME and these are just niggling little things that would be nice to adjust/fix.

The easiest way to disable auto start/stop is to drive with the ZF automatic shift lever in sport position, i.e. to the left. You will be responsible for changing your own gears, and the engine will not shut off at stoplights unless you have it in Drive. I prefer to leave my auto start/stop activated, as it really does save a ton of fuel when I drive on major roads with long stoplights. Minutes pass, and while people around me are burning expensive fuel going nowhere, I'm not. Lift off the brake pedal and I'm ready to go again. When I'm decelerating to a right turn where I expect to yield but not stop, the first thing I do is to reach for that shift lever and bump it left. That will ensure that the engine won't cut out at a critical time when I'm trying to merge. I either upshift manually or set the lever back to the right once I'm going. Try it. You'll like it.

I got a F32, I already had that feature messed with haha. Maybe someone went ahead and did it before I got the car or maybe even the dealer. I have Carly for BMW used it on multiple BMWs . Actually I got sorta screwed by them. The app used to be a one time purchase when it was called something else (iVini....), then they changed the name and made it a subscription, I got a email saying that I might be able to get the the full new version free if i provided a code, I did, but its a code that cannot be accepted/invalid. But whatever. I still recommend the app. I ended up unlocking a bunch of stuff in my E60 and my F32. Lol wish It was OBD1 so I can code my E31 as well for certain things.

Only shame is you have to purchase full Carly App for about $ 100 CND and you have it working for one year only at that high price. To keep App operational yearly full charge must be paid. Otherwise thanks Brian for an other great video !

If you hit the button to turn the car on, but not to start it, then hit the button again to shut it off, then hold the wiper lever up about ten seconds, the wiper arms will go through one stroke up and down, then 1/2 stroke up, and stay there.... Then you are good to go on folding out the wipers!

I wish we could code the default drive mode - the car starts in Comfort, and I find it's more suitable to be in Sport (6-speed manual feels sluggish and unresponsive in Comfort). I wish there was a away to preserve the last setting as default like the auto stop/start - btw, on my 2014 F22 and other F and G series from that MY the auto stop/start defaults to the last used setting, so no need to code.
