Bishop moves prevent moving towards you diagonally, rook moves prevent moving towards or away orthogonally and deliver check, knight moves prevent perpendicular orthogonal motion (sideways), while camel moves prevent moving away diagonally. This piece can guaranteed deliver solo checkmate on an infinite chessboard in a finite amount of moves from any starting position, so even a bit scarier than the original comment makes it out to be.

I think it's supposed to be cannon, it has the merida cannon sprite from shogun chess. It moves like a chancellor (rook+knight) in shogun variant. It has the symbol 'M' because the symbol 'C' is reserved for the archbishop (bishop+knight) piece.

The game was draw by Threefold Repetition.....if a situation is repeated thrice, it's a draw....no matter how many moves you play in between....if each and every piece is at the same position thrice, it's a draw, and you basically got checked on that g6 square by the piece on d5 three times so that's a draw.

A cannon is a common anglicized name for a specific piece in xiangqi, AKA Chinese chess. That name therefore would lead to confusion.

I believe this piece is called Munchkin. It moves everywhere causing havoc and takes everything it wants and is really hard to take (often requiring multiple people, warriors for preference). And it is notated with the latter 'M' as you can clearly see from the move history.

I think we should call it the Schwerer Gustav 4.8t 800cal. Artillery Weapon. It it the strongest piece on the board, but some well placed pieces, and a strong piece of your own (Give your queen some thermite just to be sure), and you can take it down easily

I think the strategy in this variant is just leave a protected pawn on e6 to prevent all Camel-mates and then push the pawns and pieces on the Queen side to promote and get more queens. Seems easy once you protect d5 and f5 correctly

question: how do you use or play with these fairy pieces?

There is already a cannon chess piece, this should be called the howitzer since it has a shorter barrel and is more angular, hence the perfect name for this piece

This brings to mind an idea for a chess variant I have: one player controls both black and white, while the other controls a single red pawn. The catch is that this single red pawn is allowed to do basically anything it wants (which is why I'll call it the "deity" from here on out). The deity is a solo piece, independent from both black and white, and can be captured by either one. Black pieces are also allowed to capture white pieces, and vice versa, despite being controlled by the same player, however a piece cannot capture a piece of its own colour. The aim of the game for black/white is to capture the deity piece, while the aim for the deity piece is to avoid being captured long enough to force a draw or resignation, or to capture all of the black and white pieces, in which case the deity wins.

A piece that can move anywhere on the board on its turn seems pretty unbeatable, it just gobbles up the the the rooks and then knights if possible, im assuming the red pawn can't check the king and just has the ability to move to any square and capture an peice that isnt the king. Als othe turn order is white/black/red/white/black/red?

You should add rubber duck moves and abilities from duck chess in that chess piece

the most annoying chest piece is a piece that can teleport on any square per move, but its not allowed to take teleport on the king piece

Reminds me of the flying knight. Black has a full set of pieces and pawns, and White just has a knight on g1, but White gets two moves every turn. White is winning, but if the knight is on b1, White has mate on the first move.

here's a very stupid idea: new piece (maybe called the joker) can go to ANY square on the board except the one with the king. as such it can never check or mate the king. white is provided with a joker and one pawn it must use to checkmate, black has a normal assortment of pieces.

How do you make new pieces?

This is actually fairly simple to beat as a human but your opening sequence needs to be specific you need to respond with e6 no matter what as the first move and it usually goes for b5 to capture your rook respond with c6 (If the rook gets capture you can trap the piece) and finally you do d6 (almsotn o matter what). Then your objective is to get your rooks and queen infront of your pawns (without dropping any material) then you just slowly but surely push your pawns while attempting to defend every single one and squish the piece into a corner.

That moment when playing the Bongcloud isn't terrible:

Chinese chess(xiangqi) has a canon, it does something completely different though. It moves like a rook but can only capture by jumping over a piece anywhere in the line of attack, they can even capture right at the start of the game. That could be a really fun piece to try in chess.

I tried using this tool and used the startfen from the description. It didnt give what you have here however. How do I get your starting position? I didn't see any variant called "annoying"

I see a lot of people suggesting Mortar. However there already seems to be a piece by this name it is signified by an upside down knight. The Mortar moves like a knight, but cannot capture this way. In order to capture it makes an orthogonal cannon capture-jump. It jumps over any piece and lands, like a cannonball, on the enemy piece farther back, provided that any intermediate squares are empty. The Mortar's value is 3, that is, the same as a bishop

how to input the custom variant?

Mighty cannon in 3:44 you can see the moves and the piece initial appears like an m so mighty cannon could make sense

I note the rook on a8 is undefended and can be won by force; for example 1. Zd3 (I'll use the letter Z for the new piece) e6 (Forced, else 2. Zd5# or 2. Zf5#) 2. Zb5 and the rook is trapped. Interestingly, however, Black has 2...Nc6! and if 3. Zxa8 a6! wins immediately, as the piece is trapped. If the piece is forced to move, it will be trapped next move regardless of which move it makes. If the piece is allowed to pass, i.e. not make a move, Black can walk his knight from g8 to b6 to trap it. Or can White claim this is a stalemate?? So if there are no Black pieces that can be captured, it should be possible to slowly take over the entire board until every square is covered. This should be easy by pushing the h-pawn and promoting it. If pawn promotions aren't allowed, just focus on taking over one square at a time and making sure no pieces are hanging.

These are all my pieces I have created. Added with the original. Chess:Pawn: It can take diagonally forward one space, and move forward one space. MyChess:Bulldozer: It can take and move one space forward, and one space diagonally. Chess:Knight: It can take and move in a lowercase el. Just to clarify, the rest of the pieces will take and move in these "patterns." Chess:King: One space every direction. Cannot be checked by King of check Kings. MyChess:Taking: Like a king but can take it's own pieces. (But can't castle if the bishop isn't moved.) Chess:Bishop: In any diagonal line. (Each square must be moved straight, please know how a bishop moves!) MyChess:Camel: MY camel moves like a knight, then takes or moves like a King. MyChess:Parakeet: This piece is like a short ranged queen, moving and taking only three spaces however. Chess:Rook: In a straight line. Imagine it being the origin of those coordinate graphs, and the X and Y axis are it's taking and moving squares. MyChess:Sniper: It stays in the corner of the board. It is only used in very big chess boards. It can take like a rook and a bishop, but it can move a square one sideways before making a diagonal shot, thus creating a super laser. The sniper returns to it's starting point after in snipes. Also, the sniper can place down land mines that when something steps on it or snipes it, it will instantly kill the person who steps on it and around in a three by three box, with the bomb in the middle which no longer exists. Note that (like real life) when the sniper snipes something, they would logiclly not blow up. Chess:Queen: I don't want to explain. MyChess:Supershup: Can move like any normal chess piece. MyChess:Superpawn: Can move anywhere it can see. You get to decide that. But it cannot check or checkmate or take the king. That would be crazy. FairyChessExtra:Canon: It can move like a queen, a knight, and the fairy chess camel. It can beat up and checkmate a group of pieces in a single, or a few moves. MyChess:Xpawn: The piece can move like any of my pieces of like any of the original pieces. This isn't entirely unstopable. If there were 1000 stockfishes fighting a beginner with a Xpawn, the stockfishes would barely win. THE END!
