I’m afraid Rob, spending the most money doesn’t provide u with the best military. The USA spends just under a Quarter of its budget just getting there to its respective defence facilities world wide. It’s operational military aircraft are the most expensive in flight cost running on average at $75-110,000 per flight hour. The sophistication of a lot of the electronics is such that it doubles the maintenance down and actual maintenance time across all four services. In regards having the best u need to remember China has stolen over a two year period every bit of information on every piece of military equipment employed by the USA including the tactics to be implored for its combat use and is building its equal and in the case of missile better and faster units with higher warheads. Hyper sonic missile flying at greater than Mach 6 fly to fast for radar to detect let alone target to destroy. This has put every navel ship at extreme risk of being destroyed without being able to defend themselves. A similar issue is developing with anti aircraft missiles. So right now the US doesn’t have the best because the F-35 joint fighter failed to meet its design requirements. This has left it as a stand off aircraft operating as a command and control support the to be upgraded F-15, F-16 and the limited remaining F-22 the three of which out perform the F-35 other than the F35B version doing verticals take off role.
