The Morris JE: Better than the Volkswagen ID. BUZZ?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Morris J-Type gets the electric treatment. The old van that thanks to its cute and cuddly looks brought a smile to the faces of British people in the 1950s. has been modernized with an electric engine while keeping all the features that made it so beloved.

    Best neo-retro edition ever. Morris Commercial succeed where Volkswagen Type 2 and Citroën H-Type failed, keeping the spirit and the authenticity of an iconic van while giving it all the new toys. It's a proof of taste and commercial sense. I can't wait having one of those.

    I had the original and it was. The awful side valve engine that let it down, it was thirsty and unreliable burnt oil like it was going out of style. BUT the shape was really cute and pleasant even the sliding door was nice. I failed my driving test as it did not impress the examiner when he sat right back. I retook it in an escort next time.

    It would be nice here in the USA, but put a petrol/gasoline engine/drivetrain in it. Also get rid of the 'convenience' electronics like the cameras for side mirrors, those are just an added expense. Ms. Li must never have seen the USA vans of the 1970s-1980, that were heavily modified on the inside to suite the owner's purpose, and with all styles of graphics on the exterior. One deterrent to a USA version might be the recent demise of the smaller vans produced by Nissan, Ford, and Dodge/RAM. Those were really minimalist on the interior, had no 'style', had poor suspension and handling (the Ford Transit that I drove for a while at work) and were not comfortable at all; even the passenger versions were pretty 'spartan' on the inside.

  • @unconventionalideas5683

    @unconventionalideas5683

    Truthfully, the range is actually quite reasonable from what I have seen, even potentially in an American context. The petrol/gasoline thing might not be necessary because of that.

    Hello Maximillian, well spotted, but that is the 1949 petrol van at 2:40 and yes, it is very noisy with the engine inside the cab. Hi stottybox, the side door of the production pink van will accept a pallet and overall the van has a class leading 1,000 kg payload and 6.5m3 rear volume. This with a 80kWh battery gives a class leading range of 250 miles WLTP. The lightweight design is the key, compared to the heavy structures of our competition. Weight is everything for a commercial vehicle as I am sure you know. So we believe that we are style AND substance!
