The Montane Winter Spine Races 2024 | Episode One

Спорт

The Montane Winter Spine Race 2024 rolls into life as we cover the start of the Challenger South, the MRT Challenge South and the Sprint. For those that are following for the first time, all three of these ultra marathons start in Edale and follow the Pennine Way. The Challenger South and the MRT Challenge South cover a distance of 108 miles with a time of limit of 60 hours whilst the Sprint race is 46 miles and needs to be completed within 18 hours. The conditions today were atypically merciful for a Winter Spine and we saw Rupert Allison smash Jon Shields previous course record.

Why is it that watching little dots move across a map gives me a deep desire to want to put myself through extreme mental and physical pain!? One day. Must be mental!

It is really motivational. Injury and age limit my distance now but when I watch this I am energised to get back out there. 😊

In two weeks both my sons will be attempting the arc of attrition 105 miler around some of the Cornish coast, these ultra races are enthralling and exciting, in these ultras the winner does not take it all, first or last, the aim is to finish within the allotted time Good luck and keep fighting to all you participants.

Good luck everyone!! Think I'll have to stick to watching the trackers. Not sure ì can handle another series of relentless diagonal camera shots. The event is dramatic enough, real shame. Going to be a hell of a race!!
