I have this watch. It is expensive but it is well worth it if you are looking for a quality luxury tool watch (diver). The bracelet is outstanding and the new upgraded clasp is way better than the previous version. You get what you pay for and what you get is terrific.

You touch on something very key. A lot of people compare Monta to others in its price point which is of course fair. However it really shines when you compare it to others twice or three times the price

Nice review. I appreciate the effort in communicating what distinguishes this watch from other very similar looking watches on the market. I do believe it's a little expensive, especially for a microbrand, considering its competition at that price point.

It really reminds me of the rolex submariner That's what popped up in my mind when I first saw the watch Good looking That one's a gem

I had considered one of those rings. If you WANT to wear a proper watch, it kind of knocks out the standard fitness trackers. So the ring seems like a good idea. I just don't think I would like that much bulk on my hand. My wedding band is about all I can handle.

I am a huge fan of Rolex and Tudor. I'm very picky with bracelets and the tactile sensations of a watch. I've had the Oceanking v3 for a week and I'm really impressed. I can't believe the quality of the product. I've had Oris and Longines and I realize Monta is truly superior. Other than the name and movement, my Monta doesn't look out of place next to my Rolex/Tudor.

I am an owner of the OK and it is my favorite by a mile

I own and love the Gen 2. If i didn't own that watch I'd still be intrigued by this one. Seems to me as if they upgraded the model and added several homogenizing features to the watch market. Whether you like better tech or a little more soul, either watch is beautiful!

You didn't use the Delica for size comparison, do you take me for a fool. Very nice watch though.

The Tudor is definitely not worth double the Monta, but in the UK I can get a Tudor pelagos for less than the Monta or Formex and that is the only thing that would stop me buying one.

Honestly, the only thing that made this a no-go for me was the lack of color options. I think this would look phenomenal in other colorways.

I'm sure I'd enjoy the Formex or Monta. But my price comfort zone just doesn't extend past about $750. (And that's a stretch). Where I will definitely align myself with Nick is the slant toward the micro brands! You CAN find a nice sub-$700 watch, and get a lot of the attributes the Monta has. Think Direnzo, or Henry Archer, or Second Hour. You might have to accept a Miyota 9000 series movement, or lower end SW200, but those aren't bad at all, in my experience. But since *I* have never handled a Formex or Monta, I'd like to see Nick branch out to the more middle-of-the-road micros, and hear his comparison with the high end?

Somes micros are crazy good for the price. But the Monta is closer to a Rolex than, let say, a San Martin. The bracelet and the tactile sensations are in line with Tudor and Rolex.

Indicies and 6 o'clock date window aside, this looks like a Sub. Looks great non the less. Nick get your hands on a Longines Hydroconquest GMT

I have the Gen2 version and I really like it. Very high quality watch and the bracelet is outstanding. I was disappointed with the Gen3 as it seems like they reverted to a sub homage and did away with the lumed bezel.

The opposite for me. I always admired Monta's quality but their weird designs weren't for me. When I saw the Oceanking v3, I immediately bought it.

In-house naming for third-party movements is incredibly annoying. God bless Christopher Ward for bucking that trend.

when will nick get a rolex?

It looks like so many other Sub-style generic divers, but with an inflated price tag. The quality looks great, but it's dull. For its price you could almost get 2 x CWs, that would also boast good quality, but which would have a lot more personality and individuality.

Given that the Submariner is the most desired watch in the world, it's completely understandable that manufacturers would take inspiration from it.

Hmm. I have to say I'm disappointed by the lack of lume on the bezel (besides the pip), Watches from Christopher Ward to the Pelagos can do it. For 2500 bucks, I'd kind of expect it.

That was one of several red flags for me: the steel case & bracelet. Frankly my Citizen eco-drive has a similar design and is just as pretty. This was a near-miss for me, maybe a Formex field watch would do.

Not sure why they want so much. I've seen similar spec watches starting at $600.

If this is a sub clone then so are all dive tags, omegas, seikos, and many more watches out there. Dive watches all have similar looks to the sub with some major and some minor differences. The reason the sub is so popular is that it was one of the first dive watches ever created, so of course brands that come in behind them have similar aesthetics. To me, the clones have the Mercedes hands, the exact type of bezel knurling and the circle indices. The Ocean King has none of the

I think your same argument about value can be used to say that the Christopher Ward C60 Trident Pro 300 is a better buy than the Monta. I don't really see the $1500 extra that the Monta has over it.

It’s all about trade offs. Beyond $1k price range the trade offs are less the higher the prices you go. I own the CW 300, the finishing and the movement accuracy is not the same as Monta (Monta use/modded a SW300 vs SW200 in CW). Obviously going to Omega/Rolex you get the heritage/better movement than these (more expensive to service), finishing for those 2 vs monta are quite close or they are only slightly better.

Don't get into watches

It is a Submariner Homage!! It clearly is. Monta are overrated watches and always overpriced. For that money I’d rather buy a heritage Longines for about the same price, a watch with way better reputation and pedigree. It is just my opinion. I can see tat getting a free watch or pay review, influence to the critics on this review. A have meet Monta cofounders twice and alwas get offended by questions about the prices and movements the use on their watches. And again, this is my opinion!

I’ve been collecting watches for about 25 years, doesn’t mean that I’m a expert but for sure I’m a watch enthusiasts who care about quality and price, to be clear, Monta watches offer homage watches that easily we can get for a quarter of the price, for giving you an example: Steinhart watches, you can argue that are homage watches, and they are. At the end is about preference and opinion, in that regard I’m still saying that Monta is another overpriced microbrand. If you are willing to pay that much money for a generic movement (because Sellita movement is a generic movement out of ETA) is ok, is your money. I believe that a review has to be impartial and independent front the brands but it is clear that someone people just looking for free stuff and money. And again, is just my opinion.

I bought an Atlas GMT Monta, it didn’t give me what I looking for for in that price range, but as I said before, it’s only my opinion, I do not try to talk garbage about this watch, people can buy anything they want!!

Okay I will stay with my Ginault and look for something different.

@@maitrehgI have both the Silent Service and this Oceanking, and disagree. Got the SS at 900 and Oceanking pre order at well over twice the price. The Ginault beats the Monta with bezel action, lume, indixes and polishing. Monta wins in movement, overall fitment, bracelet, clasp. Both are wonderful value and I'm keeping both forever, but the Ginault is the smarter purchase.l for those on a budget. It does not feel like a cheaper watch.

@@cheesychester9647 I've already had two Ginault Ocean Rovers but I don't have the SS (sapphire crystal bezel not my taste). Excellent watches but far from Monta (Ocean Rover). The company seemed a little nebulous while Monta is solid (Everest Band Group). I own several Tudors and have handled Rolexes. My Oceanking v3 is very close in terms of quality and even superior in terms of comfort.

Way too much for being stainless steel.

But look how polished, radiused and smooth it is. There's been a lot of machining and finishing. The labor to do that probably costs a lot more than the material itself. Not saying the price is justified just that you're not getting this for the same price as a Duro.
