I think someone told me that the monkey represent Sanzang's intellect, sharp but sometimes cocky. The piggy repersent his lust for materialistic things, which he control strictly but cannot banish completely. Sandy represent his fear, I thought I read somewhere that Sanzang actually abandon his journey a few times before he regret it and finally continuing his journey. The monsters represent dangers and temptations along the way. chlind, 3, i would say, all the rulers wanting to keep xuanzhang for themselves, when xuanzhang was on such an important mission to "find the truth" is basically the same as the demons wanting to eat tang san zang's flesh for immortality, preventing him from going west and thus saving the world. but i guess thats just my point of view. -Alan Choi Chang Source The Historical Xuanzang Was A Badass - The Real Journey to the West

This Legend of pilgrimage to the West is the name of Monkey King's Story. In fact, they had to go through eighty-one disasters for Master Tang with his three apprentices and one horse which transformed by a Dragon King's son. It's one of the most popular novel which written by a Chinese scholar 460 years before. What's interesting about this novel is that there are two very different systems of ghosts and gods coming together. Chinese children's childhood favorite!
