Now I perfectly understand why people want to have a Red Dead Redemption remaster. So that they can throw in Arthur Morgan and have certain characters talk about his influence and his actions as a protagonist.

I think the best explanation regarding John’s silence on Arthur is when he reunites with Mary Beth after the end of the game and says that he THINKS about Arthur all the time, but he doesn’t TALK about him very much. Arthur is effectively his brother who’d saved him multiple times but he could never save in return, only avenge 😔

Then if you greet Jack, John says something like "I saved you a little too!", if you greet Abigail, John says "Why'd you tell that to the boy? I'll talk about him, just what is there to say?". It makes sense to me that John wouldn't like talking about Arthur in RDR1. Those memories would almost certainly be staggeringly painful... But, if they did remake RDR1, I would like to see scenes like these re-voiced. Not rewritten, per se, but retaken to add hesitant pauses and the like to hint at the idea that John is remembering Arthur in conversations like this. I don't want blatant mentions and conversations about him, at least outside of characters that were in the gang during that time. But even then, I don't want full blown conversations about the man. Quick mentions at most, maybe using his memory as a way to jab at John during fights... But Arthur's presence in a RDR1 remake should be subtle, but noticable to the perceptive.

I think the perfect reason why John barely talks about Arthur in the Epilogue beyond the missions and further into the story of RD1 is largely because of how he handles his grief of what happened to the man that practically became his brother in everything but blood. Sometimes a man's name doesn't need to be evoked to know that his actions still influence those who are still around, and John clearly learned a lot more from Arthur then he lets on, especially when comparing the him to RD2 and RD1, it may not seem that drastic, but Arthur definitely helped influence the maturity and honor that John would embody.

Yea but theres more than just Arthur. Ross could (and probably would) bring up Milton ALOT, same with Dutch and Micah or Hosea, and obviously he would bring up Arthur alot to try and get into John's head. Plus a remake would allow them to tie up some loose ends over characters whose fates were left unknown like Sadie or Charles. Maybe a letter from one of them or a newspaper article on how one of them either struck gold (metaphorically) or died. Above all, the gameplay would benefit ENORMOUSLY from a remake, cus aside from the fact RDR1 is inherently a buggy mess (tho that does make it more fun 90% of the time), once youve played it a few times, especially after playing 2, it really does become apparent how stale the game is as you realise it lacks so much content *compared to what it could be*.

Yeah Hosea’s and Arthur’s death fully made him go crazy. Hosea was his longtime friend and Arthur was basically his adopted son. He watched them both die in front of him and he realized how he could’ve saved the gang if he listened to both of them.

Arthur was never the type to look at the past. He left things that he didn’t want touched the way they were too. I think John’s the same way they both were raised by the same man, so ofc he isn’t gonna think about Arthur without thinking about Dutch and Hosea, but people never really think about how things start or try to forget how they started, but they’ll never forget how bad something ended.

@@IndoJordy Here John is just talking with Bonnie about how the grass isn't always greener on the other side, and how it might take and be telling of more strength to stay where she is and plant her roots. Us, the players eight whole years later, being able to coincidentally connect bits of dialogue to events in the prequel doesn't mean the two necessarily have any relation. I am certain that the idea of Arthur Morgan didn't even exist back in 2010, otherwise he would've been a character referenced by Dutch who never stops talking about the gang's old days. This scene was written to be one thing and one thing only, John and Bonnie chatting about _her_ circumstances. Considering on that fateful night Arthur was _running away_ from Dutch and the Pinkertons after confronting Dutch went nowhere, its more a testament to how gracefully Red Dead 2's postgame bridged the gap between itself and Red Dead 1 that we can loosely associate these scenes between games. There's dialogue in Red Dead 2's postgame where Abigail notes that John doesn't like talking about Arthur, to which he responds "The past is gone. We've left that behind."

After my dad passed away I never talked about him to anyone, but I still remember him, I still love him and sometimes I feel the need to Cry but I don’t, just because my dad wouldn’t want that… And that’s the same thing that happens to John, if he was a real person it would be the same thing, and I’m pretty sure about that. He just lives by his code and no one, not even Abigail, Jack and Uncle need to know that, only him and his brother Arthur. Thats why he never mentioned Arthur in RDR1 and mentioned a few times in the Epilogue in RDR2

I think it's incredible that Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 were released in different times, but the writers made sure to make the story of RDR2 match and add up with the writing that was in RDR1.

@@AndreiHarkov Arthur is one since in rdr1 John is described as Dutch’s favorite son and his main enforcer while in rdr2 he’s just another camp member, Javier in rdr1 was implied to be a horrible man by John when he was in the gang while in 2 he’s the nicest person in the camp, Bill in rdr2 is hinted at being gay while in 1 he kills and rapes a bunch of women. John tells Javier that Abigail always thought he was a creep yet in rdr2 they barely have any interactions to imply that and again he’s the nicest person in the camp. Javier tells John that he hopes him and his children rot in hell yet in rdr2 it’s just Jack who’s born so how would he know about John’s daughter? Sadie, Charles and again Arthur are retcons since John says that everyone in the gang had gone crazy anyhow and that everyone left him to die which isn’t true since they helped him leave the gang. Abigail tells John he was left to die because unlike everyone he knew the truth while in rdr2 he was left to die because Micah told Dutch to do it. Abigail in rdr1 tells John he wanted to be a farmer while in rdr2 it’s her who wanted to be a farmer. John says during a hidden dialogue exchange that the only times the gang ever needed him was when he had prostitutes hinting that he wasn’t in the gang at all and that he was originally a pimp who brought Abigail to the gang. John says he’s never been to NA in rdr1 which isn’t true since in rdr2 you do a mission there, a stranger mission and John is forced to go there in order to collect dinosaur bones and legendary animals for 100% completion. There are WAYYYY to many buildings, railroad tracks and bridges missing in the rdr1 map in rdr2 for it to be considered realistic that the epilogue takes place 4 years before, Blackwater has different buildings and shapes in rdr2 than how they appear in rdr1 as well as houses being made of bricks instead of wood like in rdr1. John in rdr1 is constantly talking about the “man he used to be” when threatening people but in rdr2 he’s just an angry cowboy who gets captured a lot. In rdr1 John talks down on people who cheat or abandon their spouses and family yet in rdr2 he does the same making him a hypocrite. Not only does John in rdr1 not mention Arthur or Hosea or any of the other people in rdr2… but literally NOBODY in the gang mentions them either making them retcons as well. John morphing into Arthur in the epilogue by having his same exact body type, hair and now having left parted black hair instead of dark brown right parted hair like in the main rdr2 chapters and rdr1 is another issue as well as his clothes looking ugly af only for them to change shape and size. There’s way more but these are what I can think of rn

It could be that they had been removed too with a patch when the production of Red Dead Redemption 2 started in 2012 to create more freedom of creativity or mystery. When john says "Youre my brother" its almost like hes apologizing for not seeing it/being a better brother to arthur. Like hes sorry for leaving him behind for that year. And he hates having to leave him now. Arthurs "i know" is him essentially saying john had nothing to apologize for. He always knew johns heart.
