But on 31 august 1989 stil in Soviet Union MoldavianSSR adopted latin alphabet

as an Asian, we have Same language, Different alphabet Different language, Same alphabet Same language, Different dialect Different language, Same dialect Same language, Different western colonizer influence Different language, Same western colonizer influence. To many of us, this news isnt as shocking news as one would expect as its fairly common.

@@ytlokop take chinese for example, there's 302 different variations of the chinese language. the most common languages can be written in roman letters as well as being romanized by meaning directly, since chinese speaks in words and not letters. Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia are extremely similar in vocabulary and grammar, and almost interchangeable. originally written in sanskrit, then arabic letters, then roman alphabet. Melayu has british influence while Indonesia have dutch influence. Tagalog is when Bahasa was mutated by spanish, and then later mutated again by american english. Japanese uses chinese letters originally, but then makes their own letters, Hiragana. then they created a separate letter system from Hiragana to represent non-japanese words called Katakana. then they also have romanized Japanese, Romaji. Korean language was originally written in chinese letters as well but then they made their own letter system. there's probably more Asian languages especially Indian ones that i do not know of but our languages are very diverse, and the use of different alphabet system for the exact same language is extremely common

​@@aoyuki1409Few minor corrections: "Chinese" is not really a language, there's Mandarin and Cantonese the usual real examples people may refer. Hence you could say Mandarin or any other "Chinese" languages have their own varieties but not unanimous to all Chinese languages. Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia are just varieties of a single language, hence not just "extremely similar"; theyre the same thing. Tagalog is completely different from Bahasa Indo/Melayu already, even before the western influence. Philippine languages are actually closer (not same) to other native languages present in Sulawesi, Indonesia. I guess you could've said other fascinating perspectives like Tagalog and Bahasa Indo have some unique cognate words. Theyre unique because Tagalog got it from Spanish, while Bahasa Indo got it from Portuguese. These loan words didn't came from the same influencer, but their influencers are related; making the loan words cognates. Nonetheless, I agree with your point.

I like Romanian. It sounds very nicely. Some say it sounds slavic but as a slavic language native speaker myself, I absolutely disagree. When i first heard it spoken I thought it was some Italian dialect.

You would actually be correct - Romanian is classified as a romantic language like Italian or Spanish. It's also related to them in origin.

I always hear people where I live say that it sounds like a romance language. We speak bad English and French though. Not everyone here is familiar with Slavic sounds to begin with.

we also switched to latin alphabet, and at least since the '90s we learn Romanian Language in school, no such object as Moldovan Language.

This is similar to what is happening in Taiwan at the moment, where the government is pushing for the recognition of a Taiwanese language, when in reality it has 100% mutual intelligibility with Hokkien, a language spoken in Fujian province. In fact, lots of things there are being desinicised by the DPP, so much so that residents are calling it the 綠色恐怖 or 綠色文革, translating to “Green Cultural Revolution” (Green is the colour of the Taiwan Independence Movement)

My Romanian partner says he can understand the Moldovan dialect pretty well, it just requires more focus because of the accent and the use of words that are considered archaic in standard Romanian

Standart Moldovan created in soviet times is basically 99% same as Romanian, just in cyrillic script. Vernacular Moldovan was decently different though, but dialects almost went extinct because people switched to standart literature language over time

@@vaevictis2789 Pretty cool that they used Cyrillic given that Romanian too was written in Cyrillic before. I wonder if Moldovan used the same Cyrillic as Romanian did before they switched to the Latin script.

Pretty much. There are some small spelling differences that I explained in my full KZread video on the topic, but the creation of a Moldovan language was mostly political.

@@igorjee basically medieval and early modern orthodox literature tradition of Modavia and Wallachia was almost completely detached from vernacular dialects. They both used their own common recension of old church slavonic (in cyrillic script obviously), liturgical romanian (heavily influenced by old church slavonic, also in cyrillic) and literature old romanian (it wasnt codified, but had strong tradition which separated it from vernacular dialects of romanian or moldavian and was written in cyrillic aswell). Of course, since literature old romanian wasnt codified, feature of scribes native dialect often seeped into texts so we can approximate author's background in many cases, but all in all literature old romanian was pretty homogeneous in both Modavia and Vallachia and didnt represent specific regional spoken form of Romanian/Moldavian

They also have mutual intelibility with Italian

His whole description is so wrong and superficial really like "imposing Cyrillic alphabet" for instance when in fact it was used by Moldovans and Romanians for centuries. The only alphabet that was imposed on them for purely political reasons was actually Latin alphabet.

​@@xxxyyy8779bullshit, stop spreading lies, Cyrillic was used only by the church. Nobles and landowners used latin and the rest of the people...were like everyone else at that time, illiterates. Also Cyrillic alphabet was created for Bulgarians and Romanians since it is similar to the Greek because both were part of the Roman Byzantine empire at that time.

Ok take Moldova back and give than Dobridja back

It’s still the official language of Transnistria though.

​@@mitchyoung93yes it was. It was known as Romanian Country and also Principality of Moldavia who were founded by romanian people from Transylvania. Countries did exists long time ago but a lot of them had different forms. Rep of Moldova is 30 years old.

​@@mitchyoung93there are records from the 9th century that mention romanians. The land was crossed by so many groups of invaders that history stopped being recorded by the great ones but there are still some like the Frankish Chronicles.
