I know this is off-topic with the video, but I noted something suspicious about artifact lore. Remember how the Pale Flame artifact set talks about the harbingers? Well I recently found that the description of the Surpassing Cup piece, which describes Scaramouche, doesn't change after you complete the 3.3 archon quest, in which this knowledge should have been erased from all records of Teyvat. Thoughts?

  • @pozzsicle

@@Generalofthest It seems very much like a gameplay motivated decision. Because if they remove that lore, then they'd have to do *something* about HoOD, right? They can't keep some artifact lore and remove that same lore, just from a different set. That just wouldn't make much sense. But then... what DO they do with an ENTIRE SET dedicated to a person who doesn't exist anymore as far as Irminsulis concerned? While I can see how they'd handle Pale Flame's lore, (like having a paragraph about how the 6th seat has always been empty and whatever) but they'd have to remove Husk from the game for it all to not be a bit illogical after the memory wipe, no? And that would just be a very, very dumb move. So, instead of having to deal with that, they just decided to keep all Wanderer's artifact lore. They might explain it later down the line, but right now? Probably don't have an idea of how the artifacts aren't affected.

@@Sakuyamon Oh but thats not what I meant. They were outcasted as we know from the celestial atlas, Byakuyakukou was an ancient civilization linked to the primordial rule. They knew of Ishtaroth, the godess of time, the primordial one and its other 3 shades. They knew of the time before sun and moon, and the reign of the drakes and the cycle of life and reincarnation of these same drakes. They had disclossed information about the very begining of Celestia and the time before that because they were part of it. They had this information written in the book before sun and moon, and the problem was that they knew too much. Celestia outcasted them from Teyvat into the sea of monsters, and they ended up stranded in the collision of the realms between Vishaps , Void and Humanity. Once they were brought to the surface by Orobashi, whom created Watatsumi island for them it was that during the transition between both places that Orobashi found and read before Sun and Moon, and knowing that these people was in danger, Orobashi made a pact with Celestia in which he would relinquish its life and Celestia would forgive Byakuyakoku for their sins. We dont know the specifics of the details, but yeah Orobashi sacrificed itself in order to save Byakuyakoku from the celestial wrath.

Imagine an Inazuma Archon Quest where things were allowed to slow down and build. Teppei's death more naturally build up than just consecutively popping up and back with cough until death. The Resistance playing a planned role with Yae, Kokomi, and Ayato to get the Traveler their last chance at Raiden instead of being offscreened. Maybe have such a plan concocted after Signora's defeat and the Traveler leaves afraid to get close to Tenshukaku after seeing Raiden's power. Instead it was quick escalation of events until the end.

I don't think the tatarigami are remnants of Orobashi's wrath, but rather of his sadness and resentment. He always thought of himself as "not worthy of being a god", and was ultimately forced by his people (and Celestia) to sacrifice his life. His lingering feelings and remaining power would manifest the tatarigami.

Ei's second story quest is the perfect story quest for her. It revolved around Inazuma, how important she was to the people and what the Electro Archon meant to the people during a time of crisis. Your "Tea NPC" also showed how Ei and Makoto behaved and how they treasured everyone in Inazuma. The quest showed that Ei is taking actions in order to undo the wrongs she committed because she knew she had a duty to every single dead Inazuman who died for her country, doesn't matter which NPC it was. Ei cares about everyone in the country and her 2nd quest showed that.

@@itsmewhoknows What if she got a 3rd story quest? One where a young Ronin (15-16) is seeking revenge after his father went crazy due to losing his vision and ended up killing his mom and himself. And the story quest is about her and the Traveler getting an anonymous tipoff, (The Ronin) which Kujou Sara shared with them. It said that someone would be hunting the Traveler. Little did they know, that they were hunting Raiden rather than the Traveler. Most of the story would be Raiden spending the day with Traveler and intimidating anyone she found suspicious or too close to the Traveler. Around the middle the Ronin would reveal himslef during a one man ambush and immediately go for Raiden who blocked his attack. After being asked he would state who he is and his intentions. (Killing Raiden after what happened) After hearing of this, Raiden would tell the Traveler to stay out of it as it was her fault and her fight. Near the beginning of the fight she convinced him not to fight her which worked. Or so she thought. He pulls a surprise attack in, Slashing her right cheek and stomach which pisses her off. She'd fight more fiercely until he gets tired and loses his sword while blocking and she stabs him. The story quest would have a sadder ending with the boy laughing as blood drips from his mouth taunting her sisters and her friends and their deaths. Raiden gets fed up, and says something along the lines of "I, have shown you ENOUGH mercy." And then she finishes him off. The Traveler can either comfort her or disagree stating that she should have spared him as he was young, foolish, and angry and ultimately didn't want to harm anyone other than her. She would either thank the Traveler for their comfort, or get Angry for a moment but ultimately relent realizing they were right.

If we assume that this coloring is meant to show that both are a form of corruption, we can tie them also to the depiction of the "forbidden knowledge" spreading through the sumeru desert, as well as the mist (representing the encroachment of the void realm), shrouding the towers around Enkanomiya, which were also purple so perhaps you might be on to something. So far I think it would be safe to conclude that, most of the time dark purple is related to the void and the gold light is related with the elemental (light) realm.

The immortal snake or the snake that chases life is a fairly common concept in mythology, not as common as the malicious snake but still quite common. This is rooted from the way snakes shed skin and seemingly deaging as well as the way snake venom was sometimes used as medicine. The immortal snake is depicted in honkai through mobius and in genshin through both orobashi and baizhu, but ironically, orobashi is the one who chases life while baizhu is the one who seeks immortality.

A very interesting thing about Genshin is how a subject can change depending on how you look at it, Orobashi is just one example, but there are many others that are more hidden. Example of what I said would be like: Why does the Yashiro Commission, an institution responsible for Ceremonies and Event cultures, have an Assassin group? that group that Sayu is part of. It's kind of out of place if you think about it, it would make sense that the Tenryou Commission would have such a group (They probably have one of these) but it's not said in the story if they do or not, which makes the situation that much weirder, ( without mentioning the fact that the Kamisatos brothers pulled you into a problem that wasn't yours and then used you as a scapegoat to save Thoma) There are more examples of this, such as: Are the Tianquans of Liyue the new Lawrences? Etc.

As it stands contracts are what hold everyone together in Liyue it's legally binding on both parties behalf that's why it works so well. If someone doesn't uphold the contract it's easy to pull it out and prove it and send them off to jail or have them pay some form of compensation.

Another lovely lore video Aster! There is definitely some connection between Orobashi's death and that of the other God's during the Archon War. Simply put Orobashi seems very much like a martyr taking on the sins of his people and thus sparing them from the wrath of Celestia. In many ways I believe his death was a chosen fate for the benefit of his people, even the place of his death was the creation of a poisoned area of land marking a lasting border between his people and the rest of Tehvat. There is one bit of his lore that truly stands a part from the rest and that would be the experimentation with the Vishaps. I can only think to consider that doing so was an attempt to weaponize them for Enkanomiya's defense and to safeguard his people. Another means to carry on his Will after his sacrificial death. Perhaps the purpose of which has not yet fully been revealed as we still know very little about the Vishaps themselves. However given what we learned of the serpents in Sumeru it is quite possible there are highly intelligent Vishaps we just have yet to encounter and by helping them to evolve Orobashi had worked out some form of pact with them as well. Orobashi does seem to be quite good at making pacts and this could be yet another assurance for his people.

A thought crossed my mind. What if the Tataragami was Orabashi's way of trying to secure the land for their people? If we follow the idea that they was willing to do everything for their people, then it would make sense if Orabashi (knowing that his power would be a lot to control once he died) accepted their fate with the hopes that the people of Watatsumi would use the land he died upon. This sounds a bit absurd but it is possible

Definitely absurd, but it reminds me of something else that is absurd - The thought process that people have when affected by forbidden knowledge. Perhaps Orobashi was 'contaminated' by forbidden knowledge (before sun and moon) and in the throes of his madness believed that through dying he would make the land better for his people... When it was actually the opposite.

About Orobashi's sacrifice: it's super easy. Celestia made him do that, because he happened to have read the forbiden book "Before sun and moon", which reveals that Celestia are aliens. As Sakuyamon says below, this info was placed witin the game directly. I dont't really remember where exactly, but I'm pretty sure that there was some kind of note or part of quest or a writing on a stone etc.

My take on the Tatarigami is definitely on the former theory more related to the God of Salt's demise with sprinkles of the latter. It could simply be an excessive amount of pure god-like energy that mortal beings/objects/life in general couldn't handle. It could be remnants of his will to please his people and grant their wishes no matter how taxing to his health it was to grant them. Maybe even, he was tainted from his time in the Dark Sea. His existence got corrupted by some unknown taint which may have affected the land of Watatsumi; thanks to him planting his coral all over the island, rendering all attempt of rejuvenating fertile soil hopeless. Just as Rukkhadevata had sensed, he probably sensed something was amiss and chose to accept his sacrifice in an attempt to "get back" and affect Yashiori island in the form of a Kamikaze. This was probably a battle plan of his to weaken the enemy for his people to have a better chance at fighting for themselves as they're fueled by their faith in their image of him. Little did he know that it wouldn't fall in his favor and that his body would be used as a resource against his own people. Unfortunately showcasing how foolish he was in attempting to defy fate in the sliver that he might've done. This could be a subtle example of a different form of Forbidden Knowledge, perhaps. Also explains Kokomi's whole theme too as i'm completely sus of her being a hydro vishap sea serpent in human form who was raised to follow in Orobashi's leadership but with more skill and experience in protection than that poor god. But at least he tried and partially succeeded.

And if Orobaxi had a fairly strong connection with the energies of the abyss, but being a serpent that many myths have it as the bad one, it would not be strange that those who called him blasphemers or his blasphemy was not against celestia itself, but against the abyss. itself, and its power came from it, that is why its death and energies have an enormous resemblance to these. This would also fit with the Norse myths and the yggdrassil, which is where the structure of the world of genshin is based, because there in the depths lives a snake. It would not be strange for him to know about celestia either, since in Sumeru he tells us at least in one of the artifacts that there was an open conflict between celestia and the abyss that ended with the fall of the pillars, and all the leaders and powerful beings know about the celestial laws It could be said that he was a god who renounced the abyss that was destined to destroy that area of Inazuma, but he was not bad, he ended up becoming fond of humans and sacrificed himself for them, thus fulfilling the prophecy.

I think the tataragami incident is related to orobaxi's power. Just like havria (the god of salt), when she died all surrounding things and creatures turned into salt. If we relate that logic to orobaxi his power is probably related to that of snakes such as poison and hallucinations. Which we can relate to how he admitted that he is no match for the narukami ogosho which has more destructive power compared to his.

Do you intend to make more videos about gods? Decarabian and Andrius would be two very interesting gods to debate, especially decarabian, because some of the actions he committed are very similar to Ei's but with different reasons, besides that he is a god that is not much commented on in the community.

  • @Rozherhn

    @Rozherhn

    Жыл бұрын

Decarabia at the beginning he only wanted to protect his people but like the Greek myths of creation, he in his desperation to protect him became a tyrant taking away his freedom and imprisoning them, but unlike Ei, this was for fear of losing his status, his people , for his own ego. In the case of Ei it is similar but it was because she had suffered all the losses and was left alone, no matter how surrounded she was and seeing all the suffering that happened to her nation and all that was lost in the war against Khaenri. 'ah she wanted to prevent this from suffering again, but of course Makoto her sister had possibly seen this and she knew that one day her sister Ei would understand what she was looking for in eternity. Ei changed but not his ideals, he still continues to protect what inazuma promised his people eternity, he did it for his people without seeking reward, power, adoration or anything that benefits him, just to protect his people.

@@Rozherhn Decarabian was disconnected with the people, but that doesn't make him a tyrant. Decarabian created a barrier to protect his people from the Andrius he was at war with, while Ei shut down Inazuma to protect his people from what?? There is a difference between protecting yourself from a real threat and a hypothetical threat. The fact that Ei suffered is not a justification for the sakoku decree she implemented, which was apparently not that long ago implemented, such a decree that basically, almost everyone in Inazuma is against, including people from the Tenryou Commission. this alone shows that Ei is just as disconnected with the people as Decarabian, but unlike Decarabian, Ei neglected the people, putting a puppet to lead the nation. Ironically, her "Eternity" did more damage to Inazuma than the Fatuis themselves. All things considered, it can be argued that Ei and Decarabian aren't very different, just with different justifications, plus it's obvious that if things had continued as they were, Ei would have ended up the same as Decarabian.

I agree with Absalom. Decarabian shut people inside to protect them from being frozen to death at that moment, and the snowstorm outside can actually kill every single mondstadtian at that moment. Ei closed off inazuma because she afraid of the changing of the future, a future threat. So yea, it's kinda different. Besides, Ei's suffer doesn't mean she could control people (by taking away their visions) in order to "not suffer" like her, it sounds kinda unhealthy to me

@@dizzynecro9944 The Shogun or Ei does not control with an iron hand as many believe, he only sought the visions but never did any harm to them, if anyone had their own emotional problems beyond their vision but it was not that they took away the vision itself but that I already had that problem from the beginning. the rest of the people were well protected with some supply problems but nothing great. but with all that, people continued and continue to believe in his archon that he did everything in their favor, which is true. the civil war is more complex, deep down it was not because of the vision users or what it said on the surface, it was something else transmitted from generation to generation, the death of their god orobaxi, still despite the hundreds For years, they have been looking for a shield to fight, not all of them, but they continue with that grudge, that's why they used that shield from the vision capture to go to war, this is something that one can see when talking to the Watatsumi NPCs.

It also makes sense that Narukami would take at least some ownership over Watasumi if it was won as a sort of prize from the war. Even if it's treated as nothing more than an outpost, it (Watasumi) serves a better chance of being supplied (even if only just a little) by Narukami if it was possessed as a spoil of war. Were I Orobashi, that would be a thought that crossed my mind.

Orobashi's tale in game, in addition to being vague- may also be intertwined with the rest of the Archon War events, which would twist/hide the truth to one degree or another even more. Just considering what we know (even second hand) Orobashi's tale is surrounded by the unknown as Enkanomiya even with its fake sun at brightest is amid darkness at the moment (only wheh they reveal more will we really get Orobashi's true story..) it seems to intertwine with both the Abyss and the Calamity surrounding Khaenriah perhaps from the "forbidden knowlegde" or some other (Like King Deshret in Sumeru and his story is intertwined with the 'calamity' seeming to include contact with Kheanriah and forbidden knowledge [it is only "comfirmed" in Sumeru, all other places it is suggested at best]).

In Mondstadt Dvalin vs. Durin and Barbatos, are all that directly connect it with the Archon War or any of its contemporary causes affects. The Fatui were known as part of a plot when Eula helped protect Yanfei. And the Dandelion Sea potential in that it points to more than a fox or fox spirit/group of kitsune is the likely reality behind the story [like Nahida's Fox and the Kitten tail which kept Scaramouches' memory safe] are all that directly connect "The City of Freedom" to the cataclsym. Whether Venti is a gate keeper or merely covering up the direct link to Kheanriah/the Abyss somehow connected to the Barbatos Statue in Mondstadt plaza (and the movement of Mondstadt from stormterrors lair to where it is now) leave most potential connections to the past Teyvet in mystery.. In Liyue the Guyun Stone Forest, Guili plains, the Chasm and in a way the side link to Sumeru via the chasm do link it with the Cataclysm somehow but other than the Millilith and the adepti the real issue of what the Archon war was is covered up. In Inazuma there was a surface attack, and aside from Orobashi and Enkanomiya with its potential link to Khaenriah and some underground passages the only major side group like those who became the Sankonomiya civilisation who tried to hide or escape was the God of Salt and whoever died with her in Liyue. Makoto left Ei to go to Khaenriah, and she and Kitsune Saiguu protected the surface. The only other link to the Cataclysm in Inazuma is the Kitsune (maybe originally from Mondstadt) and the Youkai (In a recent Festival Quest). Tsurumi Island seems to have been a side story similar to Orobashi's, where calamity occurred and a favored one was killed whereas those who climbed to the surface were lost to the dark sea and were only reclaimed years after. Sumeru showed part of what the cataclysm left, the Akedymia trying for control after the loss of their favored Archon.. The people oppressed using what had been to help them. And finding the greater lord/restoring the Irminsul tree only lead back to not far where we were at Mondstadt in terms of what happened. The red sky, the boxes, the destruction, and the curious burning Irminsul we don't see till Sumeru. The dream quests (Freeing Nahida/shutting down the Akasha and balancing out dreams) only filled in what the Irminsul did. The Wanderer quest only revealed a bit of our sibling and what Scaramouches' past was, reintroducing the Fatui. The desert quests revealed some of the forbidden knowledge lore, and in a side ways manner connects the fall of King Deshret to the Cataclysm and Khaenriah- as an underground civilisation it could have hidden links to wherever Khaenriah was. Fontaine, at a guess of sorts, could in part explain what the tech in part of the ruin guards were or were based on, if "reverse engineered" rather than having a direct link to what they were. And revealing, as 'Justice' suggests, the wheres/whys/whos of what happened (unknown as yet..) 500 years ago. Somehow restoring peace, balance and Justice as the traveler has been doing since Mondstadt.

Given the caribert archon quest recently: I think the sinner was directly involved in orobashi's behaviour, moreso the tatarigami is the remnants of the sinners influence. The sinner is as he says NO GOD but his power is way above the archons (which is why I also think he;'s the second who came) He's currently directly influencing the abyss twins behaviour and likely other entities along the timeline (as dain says time is no impediment to him). The book that orobashi read was likely cursed in some way (forbidden knowledge itself?) which allowed the sinner to take control and influence, (whisper dark thoughts into his mind) which would explain the sudden shift in his behaviour after reading it. I know a lot of poeple dont like the "sinner" is behind it all theory but I'm still following that theory :)

Knowing what I know in practicing Shinto - I don't think tataragami was Orobashi no Mikoto deliberately "leaving" it there for future Inazumans. I think it was just a state of matter from pollution relating to natural life. In Shinto, there is the idea of kegare or pollution that you accumulate over time, by just being alive and living your life. You gain this kegare from negative thoughts and emotion, dealing with things related to death, harming others in anyway, lying, stealing, on days when you're upset about any number of small things, hate, sadness, etc and also through just neutral things like forgetting things or growing old... that kegare weighs you down, it effects you and those around you more and more negatively which leads to a cyclical feedback if you don't do anything because your kegare can then continue to accumulate due to you feeling more and more negative emotions and having more negative thoughts etc. So, Shinto is about purifying that kegare. You go to jinja/shrines, cleanse yourself with different rituals, perform things like Oharae, misogi, dances, matsuri, etc to rid yourself of this. Grand Narukami Shrine is an example of this ritual in action - from the temizuya to the torii to the vermillion color to the fortunes and things like the Sacred Tree. All these elements and more cleanse the area as a sacred space and cleanse the people there. You can see this also at Mouun Shrine, Sango no Miya Shrine, and VERY VERY clearly at Asase Shrine (the one with the cats on Seirai). That shrine is an oasis from all the fallout of tataragami from the crystal marrow that was being processed by the forge there. You're dealing with a gods death, a martyr at that- where the body was left to rot and fade with time, accumulating a lot of pollution in that time, not cleanse or dealt with (sidenote: this is what Japanese people prefer cremation as it is a form of purification). Processing that almost raw pollution was bound to have catastrophic effects - like in the case of Havera (sp) and the other gods that died leaving big amounts of energy from their deaths too.

He and GoF, later rediscovered forbidden knowledge and GoF dies. Deshret then goes mad and ruka stops the forbidden knowledge, deshret dies/sacrifices himself in the process. I believe this happened during the archon war and that GoF death was intended. I think celestia wanted to kill her from the start but just need a good reason to do it.

Inazuma is still my favourite region in lore because I like Japanese history and mythology a lot which Inazuma draws a ton from. But because it is so poorly written there are so much misunderstanding of every single aspect of Inazuma by the general audience. Watatsumi itself is actually the weakest link in Inazuma's story and they shouldn't have been set up as the "hero faction" to go against the Shogunate, because of the invasion of Yashiori they were literally the aggressors and the villains in this case. Regardless of the Celestia interference, Makoto already had a peaceful agreement with Watatsumi and they broke the agreement and invaded Inazuma. The current Watatsumi isn't "rebelling" against anything, they are literally continuing their invasion, instead of acknowledging their own fault as initial aggressors towards a friendly nation, they think of themselves as rebels, and then got themselves exploited by the Fatui. This became such a poor setup which further adds to the actual most misunderstood character of Inazuma, Raiden Ei. Given no time to mourn at all, she was forced to take the place of Makoto while she was in deep depression, so much that she had to cast aside her emotions and become an actual emotionless robot so that she can continue to serve Inazuma and protect her people forever and never fail again. She then gave Inazuma 499 years of prosperity and peace until 1 year ago the Fatui corrupted members of the government to pass the laws of Vision Hunt and Sakoku and exploited the people of Watatsumi to go against Raiden Shogun. Now most people don't even understand how much Raiden gave herself to protect Inazuma and instead see her as a villain when she was literally the one person who sacrificed everything down to her very soul, and think the actual antagonists, the rebels were the heroes. Raiden gave her all and protected Inazuma and in the end she was betrayed by her own corrupt government and invading Watatsumi who she gave mercy to.

Imo it's not as simple as one side being evil and the other good, that takes out a lot of nuance there. The story of Watatsumi people is one of those who lost their land but want to survive. They didn't want to go on Yashiori Island out of greed, but because their soil was infertile and food supplies limited. The war really broke out when Orobashi was killed, and Watatsumi people resented Narukami for it. They didn't understand that Orobashi was already fated to die by Celestia's hand, through Ei. Watatsumi people were wrong for breaking the agreement with the Narukami, but they're survivors, not evil. Inazuma's story is a complete mess, yes. I agree Watatsumi shouldn't have been the main hero faction - there were enough people suffering on the east islands due to corruption of the shogunate. Both the shogunate and Watatsumi getting played by the Fatui kinda just cheapened both of their legitimacy and motivations. Even the good characters in Inazuma (e.g. Ayaka) belong to less than pure organisations (Yashiro Commission's Shuumatsuban). I don't think the writers were capable of writing a nuanced story where there is no clear villains or heroes, and instead many were a victim of circumstance.
