Have always loved this movie. I went for the steel book edition because of that. I ended up liking it very much as the Blu-ray discs inside feature the grocery packaged meat artwork and the whole steelbook feels like a grocery store freezer. I can appreciate the cleverness of the design. One of the more intriguing steel books this year when I received it in person. A pleasant surprise.

Well, thanks to your review, I just went and ordered it. I've never seen this movie, but I love Frank Darabont.

Love your review on telling people going into it blindly not to go online for spoilers and I think that's why the steelbook slip is just a little better than the standard. the steel slip doesn't show the viewer or potential buyer anything as much as the standard slip. Hence giving it a mystery of what's in the " mist" 😂 idk..great review tho👍

Went down to best buy on the first day of it's release and every single slipcover was horribly damaged (even yours is a little banged up). I curse the person who made those spring loaded shelves for movies.

thanks for your review, been waiting for yours.I BOUGHT IT BUT HAVE NOT OPENED IT YET. i do own the previous dvd BUT rebought this one in 4k due to being in ATMOS!

The original 5.1 mix on the Blu-ray is decent and well enough but like with the V for vendetta that the Atmos new mix is vastly superior to the previous one in clarity and staging

I don't even have a receiver capable of Dolby Atmos and I totally agree about V for Vendetta. My first copy of V for Vendetta had a freezing issue partway through the film. I decided to put in the old blu-ray to finish watching the film. I was amazed by the UHD's downgrade audio track to Dolby TrueHD and thought the blu-ray would just be the same Dolby TrueHD track... but boy oh boy was I wrong. The UHD disc had sooo much better audio clarity and placement.

The steelbook art blows this away and totally conveys the 50's B-movie vibe.

Do the 1080p discs included consist of the new 4K scans, or are they the same transfers from the original 2008 Bluray?

Black and white is a cool remaster. Yet another instance of a 4k release of an old movie that i recently bought on dvd. 🤬. But great review, i may get it for the black and white and atmos track.

Why even buy DVD nowadays? And if you still buy that dinosaur format. Do you even buy 4k discs? I mean, you clearly don't care about picture and audio quality

I buy 4k discs for picture and audio, friend. However for some movies that i dont consider my favorites, i will buy dvd. The Mist didnt make the cut. But now that i know it has an atmos track on the 4k disc, i will buy. I alluded to that in my prior post. Also keep in mind, a majority of physical media collectors still buy dvd. Buyers of 4k discs are not in the majority. And that's ok.

I love this movie. But i know some Ppl hate it. Because of the ending. Don't matter i'm glad its in 4k...

Sadly, I have to disagree with your review. Just received it (after importing to from the US to the UK). It is one of the most shocking 4K I have watched. The film grain is so heavy and present also I noticed there were a number of scenes that appeared to be out of focus! Ended up turning off after 15mins as it was just awful to watch. The blu-ray I have is way better. So disappointed. Save your money (I should have questioned the cheap price when ordering).

Donald trump is scarier as a blimp than this film. More like a disaster movie than a horror fortunately I love disaster movies and rarely like horror, so really enjoyed this 😉 😜. I prefer b&w movies but not cos I'm old I just think this is where HD and uhd shine in b&w. Its like magic sprinkled on a screen.
