@WarAgainstBabylon No, we don't. I mean, there's a level of PC/SJW that becomes oppressive, but I started referring it to wokescold because a lot of what people call SJW these days is just not being an asshole to people. We should care about social justice and have like a base level, mutual respect between people. Attacking white people who have dreads and shit like that because it's not PC? Not so much. These days, there's a bit of an alt right element that never used to be there so prominently. The rise n Nazi punks concern me more than the annoying wokescolds.

You guys take horror punk far too seriously. Was fun to see your reactions though. Btw, horror punk = punk music with lyrics based on trashy horror movies/horror movie aesthetic. If you look at The Misfits discography, you'll see A LOT of songs named after B movie horror from the 60's and 70's. Definitely not something to take seriously. Danzig's solo project on the other hand... Oh, and Glenn Danzig is an exceptional vocal talent. James Hetfield has even referred to him as a "heavy Elvis".

Songs, just like books, movies, and other art forms can tell a fictional story without endorsing the subject matter. In general, it does seem that people do seem to have a more difficult time separating this in music versus those other art forms. I've never quite understood why, but it's just an observation I've had over the years. I wonder if it's because of the frequency that you might ingest a song you enjoy versus a movie or a book? Or is it that in a movie or book you don't necessarily see or hear the people that wrote the content, but when you're listening to music there's a more intimate connection with the artist? Think about it though: you have Slayer that has been blamed for years for endorsing some of the dark stuff they write, but the same doesn't seem to happen to someone like Stephen King or a writer of a movie like Hellraiser. If they're all telling stories, what's the difference?

Misfits were heavily influenced by 50's/60's pop culture. Their music has that mid 50's to early 60's rock and roll vibe and their subject matter takes a lot from the classic horror, teen rebel, and sci-fi movies of that era. This one always seems like they are totally spoofing those 50's teen tragedy tunes (like Last Kiss, the one Pearl Jam covered) mixed with the Rebel Rock from that time. They just turned the volume up (as it were). This was supposed to be just dark and shocking...like a horror movie.

The thing about the Misfits is the juxtaposition between 1950s melodies/ crooning vocals and dark imagery. Your grandma would snap her fingers to the melody given it’s Elvis-esque/ Roy Orbison vibe but oddly matched with it is horror lyrics, hence why they’re the founders of “horror-punk”. It’s detailing story in the same sense that Tarintino makes a movie that’s not an endorsement of his said beliefs. Especially given this being recorded in the late 70s (78), punk is about anti-establishment and the misfits were 1. Very tongue & cheek & 2. Pissing off Reaganites & other moral majority types. Which rightfully so, the religious right held such a strong hold & caused so much misery (ignoring the AIDS epidemic, treating homosexuals as second class citizens, pushing pseudo science in public schools, theocratic nonsense, etc) they deserved it.
