The Minimal Overkill Mini Gaming PC Build.

It's been almost 10 years since Valve showed the world the Steam Machine. So what would an ultra clean steam machine look like in 2024?

We need more: the configuration, undervolting, software like playnite to havce everything in the same spot and more importantly, wake up by bluetooth using a controller.

Literally this was my first thought. I’m in the process of trying different OS options, Linux distros vs Windows with Atlas and the one thing im trying to settle on is frontend and wake up with controller

@@lawlworthy9805 I have settled for Windows 11 with Atlas installed using Launchbox as the front end. Havnt setup controller to wake from sleep yet.
Neat build! I’d like to know how it handles some benchmarks and also the temps and fan noises at high load. I want to build one for myself.

+1 i also want to know please. thanks!
Built my HTPC in this case last year using a 7600X and an XFX RX 6950 XT (I had to mod the shell to fit it. Also had to remove the two case fans in the GPU well). It's running Arch Linux and using the same script SteamOS uses to boot directly into GameScope for big picture mode on system start so I get a full-fledged Console-like desktop for singleplayer and couch-coop 4K gaming.

How are your thermals on 6950XT in this case man? I gave up on trying to cram it in something smaller and just got SilverStone GD09B

@@Jmcinally94 def gets toasty up in the low 80s on full load with the case in vertical orientation. It'll be my QuakeCon LAN PC this year, so we'll see how it fairs in a hot and clustered environment this fall 😆
If I were to refer to anything relating to Steam Machines it would basically be the out of service office tiny mini micro PCs that pop up on eBay all the time. Something cheap enough to introduce someone to PC gaming and give them the opportunity to feel it out without wasting too much money. I know for me and others, the main hate we all had for the Steam Machine was that they were priced too much new, were very weak, and everyone we knew interested in buying one would use their experience as ammunition on why PC gaming was inferior or too expensive for what it was.
Wow. Beautiful build and case. Never seen this case before.
Awesome video. I literally just bought this case. It arrives today!

That's awesome. These low profile builds fit really well without blasting RGB everywhere.
I made almost an identical build concept last year. Same case but black, Ryzen 5 7600, Radeon 6600 (don't mind upscaling games on my TV), 980 Pro 2TB, etc. I installed ChimeraOS on it as it at least then seemed to be the best SteamOS like distro for HTPC use. Works like a charm. I have to sell it before it's worth nothing, but talk about a specific case use scenario machine. ChimeraOS was amazing too. FSR on everything machine wide if needed, individual settings for setups unncessary, etc. Great video.
It would look like a computer 😀 Awesome Vid 💯
Yea your production quality is top notch. Just watched your steam deck vs other handhelds video and I'm very impressed. You just earned another sub
isnt there a new model of that cpu cooler one with 6 heatpipes?
I there just have one question what is the 7800x3d temps while gaming thanks
Can you do a follow up showing the OS you used? Is it steamOS or windows?
@SpecterTech

Sure, right now I've dual booted between Linux & Windows. I'll work on a follow up for the future.

It’s gonna be a hard time for the Linux part with a nvidia GPU… (nvidia is pretty lazy at updating their pilots for the « pinguin os » 😢). Amd is a better choice if you want Linux distribution 👍 (actually: maybe in a near future Nvidia gonna wake up ˆˆ)
@ricardo_lavra

@@MrBananaX2000 I heard there are some distros like Bazzite that minimizes the problems around Nvidia and Linux... but in the end we still need to rely on Nvidia's good will around it, wich we already know isn't very good. It's possible? Yes. But the ideal would still have an AMD graphics card on the build.
Cool build
More time was spent on the sponsor than talking about the OS you used, benchmarks, anything really relevant to the steam machine part.
What about temperatures and air flow?....I was intentioned to build a pc with this case, but I got so many warnings about it, at hte end I did an amazing total white build using the "fractal mini pop air" as case, of crz my build is not small and consolized like yours but I live in a very hot side of italy so for me its crucial to have a good airflow.
I did exact config except I went with the Ventus 2x because I’m looking at custom case to make the build smaller
Do a second video with an AMD card and using either ChimeraOS or Bezzite as those are full steam deck OS for desktop PCs
look at that spotlight mount
Amazing build man. I'm building a very similar system for an upcoming video

Can’t wait till steam releases its own version of Tv gaming console. That would break the console gaming!
Is there space for a SSD?
Hey that's awesome. you're doing like valve or whatever intended: putting the machine in the living room. I don't get all the folks out there building "steam machines" or whatever and plugging kb+m into them. yikes
I want a steam deck switch just to watch Nintendo have a meltdown. If the money I would pay for a fake campaign to see the fireworks.
I'm curious, would the 4070 be strong enough for 4k gaming? Is there an recommendation for a similar form factor 4080?
@williamchiawq3747
Ай бұрын
VRAM wise, only 4070ti super and above pair with at least 16 GB VRAM. Any below that really not recommended for 4K gaming. And its better if you just wait for 5080/5090 only you decide which models is your next upgrade. For form factor wise, common 4080 and 4090 are pretty overkilled. Smaller form factor unless you look for new series like Asus ProArt/MSI Expert or some lowest tier 4080(s)/4090 models can have around 3 slots with reasonable length.
@ChadTV-vi7lk

Even a 4090 struggle with 4k 60. if you want to be gaming with good fps you have to go 2560 by 1400/1600p

Valve should use the Steam Deck popularity as the jumping stone for a REAL Steam Machine. The biggest drawbacks will still be the Linux drivers for the components, though. I bet AMD will be willing to work with Valve on this one.
