This place is so beautiful. That gorgeous flowering tree with soft pink blossoms. We have parks here in the desert. They allot them water for the zoo and the sports field where ballgames are played. There are trees there but they need more than the little rain we get. They are oases in the desert. One that is about 3 miles from us is Reid Park. It has the zoo and ducks in a pond and green grass. I don't go out much in summer. It is hard to breathe. GBY

Wow, so vivid descriptions of your place. I wonder where you are in the US. Perhaps in the southern part of USA? There are deserts there. But I was impressed with Arizona as I looked at it in the books. Or perhaps Colorado or Nevada. Or in California itself. There is a desert there. Am I right?

@@gumamelamei The entire Southwest of America is desert. From Colorado to the Pacific ocean and southern California. Arizona is bordered by the Colorado river on the west. New Mexico on the east, Nevada on the north and Mexico on the south. There are no big lakes or swimming places except pools in this state. The salt river flows from Phoenix down to the midway point between Phoenix and Tucson. We went tubing on the salt rive about 20 years ago. Then it was so shallow we had to push ourselves over the dry spots. There were a few places where the river turned a bit rough but the level was so low it was not at all dangerous. Phoenix is 100 miles north of Tucson. The topography of our state is odd. The north to Phoenix goes from high ground into a deep wide valley. That's where they built PHX in the valley. Low desert is always 5 to 10 degrees hotter in both summer and winter in PHX than Tucson. We are in a valley too but topographically, Tucson lies in a shallow valley and we get more rain here than they do in PHX. PhX is the capitol of AZ and Tucson is the second largest city in the state. Western border is the river and the city of Yuma is on the boundary of AZ and California . California was as much a desert as Tucson, but they did have the ocean. The early explorers went west expecting to find the Pacific, but just kept on going when they discovered that the state of CA was in the way of the ocean. Cal is a long and thin states. But what makes it special is the Pacific ocean. Now you have the geography of our state and surrounding states. Look up tourist sites online in AZ. You will find some beautiful places to visit. Northern AZ is temperate climate but they do get colder in winter and snow does stick up there in winter. It is much cooler in Flagstaff than in Tucson in summer. There is the Grand Canyon just west of Flag. We call it Flag. That is the number one tourist attraction and antelope valley where you find red rock shapes twirled into crazy shapes and tunnels. It would be fun to visit if I were 40 again. But I cannot do that hike any longer. If you ever come to AZ do so in winter. The winters here are lovely. I hope this helps. GBY
