Drop numbers and throw some stars! In this week’s Game the Game, host Becca Scott is joined by Rachel Seeley, Erika Fermina, and Justin Baker for The Mind from Pandasaurus Games. In this teamwork deduction game players must silently place numbered cards in ascending order with a hidden hand.

This game is the most fascinating that I've seen you play.... and I've been watching the whole playlist backwards (oldest to newest) for weeks. Definitely buying it to play with my pub people. The failure-discard and shuriken elements--and the deductive options that those open--elevate it WAY above just complex coin tossing. Plus it might be the only silent social deduction (without traitor) game ever invented. Inventing a new genre of gameplay is NOT an everyday occurrence.

Cooperative Poker. I had someone else suggest it to me as a filler for nongamers with the warning about half will not get it or hate it.
Me sarcastically: "Oh wow, a game where no-one speaks or communicates at all, must be such riveting content to watch..." Also me, five minutes in: "This shit is so intense! What's going to happen?"
This was so fun to watch it was surprisingly suspenseful

Sidenote: Moonlight Sonata is always beautiful. It is part of my "Sleep" playlist that I play when my anxiety kicks in and I am up all hours
26:52 Not quite. The lowest number with an integer square root is 1. 4 is the second-lowest. (4 is, however, the lowest number whose square root is an integer different from itself.) 🧮

@@raymondmendelovits8513 Good point. Thanks for the correction. Although my assertion that 4 is the lowest number whose square root is an integer different from itself remains true.
Can we just talk about how Erika has a hand growing from her hand at 26:35 and nobody mentions it? :D

I wasn't sure how well this game would be carried into a Game the Game episode. But the players and editors did a pretty good job!
Love your show/channel! Beijos from Brazil!
This game stressed me out to watch. But I had to see how it ended
The backing music made some of the silent gameplay amazing
2 things 1. That slowmo replay I want normal speed as a gif lol that is an epic nerd moment lol 2. I was just thinking how interesting it would be to play this game with a different rule set to see how people can keep in sync with eachother mentally by everyone counting in their head to 100 while putting the deck down in order...if anyone in their head counts even a bilisecond off it could mean a loss between cards 68 and 69

That's sort of how you're supposed to play, but you're not actually allowed to count. You're supposed to "feel" the time between numbers.
Wow a lot of quiet tension in this game. pretty cool
This would be a decent drinking game. If you cause the team to lose a life, take a shot
Not my kind of game but fun watching you guys play it
32:15 man, that was painful to watch someone throw down an 8 that quick at this stage of the game. Slow down! Sheesh. Well played Rachel.

I like that strategy of taking your hands off your cards if you do not have any cards close to the current number played. I am going to introduce that, without actually saying it of course, when I buy this game for myself.
Ladies & Gentlemen, now coming to the stage, Ms. Clara Voyant!
What prevents the person with a high 90 from just playing it in the beginning, losing one life and everyone discarding everything?
@ValSeanMo

@@rav3style I looked this up, you're required to play your lowest card. However, if you somehow end up with a hand of cards that are 80+, it might be worth playing first in round 7 or 8 just to limit the number of opportunities for misplays.
Would love to see some monks play this game.
The game looks really fun, but I must dwell on an extremely unimportant point: Why in God’s name would you play Mozart 40 without winds? WHY?! It is sacrilege!
It's so funny watching a mostly silent game being played here. x) lol though I am disappointed at the lack of funny faces and all during all those silent moments. xP lol
He reminds me a lot of Saturday night live for some reason 😄
Question, can we play it more than 4 players
That Las game 6th round you forgot to give your self a shuriken
I love this game but i can´t see my friends since one year ago :( watching people playing it make me feel less lonely.
What movie is he from? I can't remember🧐
I wonder why the shuriken take away your lowest card rather than your highest. I feel like it should take away the highest card because, thinking about the game logistically, I feel like it is easier to find a starting point rather than an end point for the pile.

I think that's EXACTLY why. It makes it too easy.
What are the rules? I don't get it.
I'm surprised that there are no comments (a week after original airing) about 4 being the lowest whole number that has a whole number square root. That would be 1, not 4.

Why are they rushing things? If you take your time, you'll be much better at this.
The cards need to be shuffled every single round??
If you only lose one life for any number of misplays, if you have spare lives in the upper rounds is there anything stopping someone from just dropping a high 90's card and wiping most player's hands?

You are still obligated to play your lowest card so this would only be possible if one player only had high cards in hand.
😍
One does not play The Mind... the Mind plays the players.
Not that great at maths if you think 4 is the lowest number that has a square root! That would be 1 😊
At a certain point, u can purposely mess up to guarantee a win. Throw out a super high card to discard a hole bunch of cards.
@troyDM9330
3 жыл бұрын
The rules actually say that if you throw out a card it has to be your lowest card so you can't just throw out a 100 at the start
Wait, why didn't they lose the life when the 33 was played? They were only two votes for the shuriken/ ninja star so that was not a majority so the 34 should be valid therefore they should lost a life.
@gregputnam7243
4 жыл бұрын
Oh no, I get it. They did lost a life. My thought was that when you say "Stop, " the whole pile resets but that is incorrect. You continue with the pile, lose a life, and still try to get everyone's hand emptied
If you're at a higher level it would be better to lay down any card you have in the '90s right away and lose a life. Then the round would be mostly over after that point.
@ebentually
Жыл бұрын
that only works if one player has a lowest card in the 90s as you need to play your lowest card
You know, since you only lose 1 life no matter how many cards are discarded, playing a 99 as the first card and completing the level instantly for a max of 1 life lost is a fairly valid strategy. Not much fun, though.
@tristanheng5447

Can only happen in round 1 or round 2 (assuming your hand, in round 2, is 99 and 100).

Wait this is strange, you can always beat a level by judt playing the 99 card. You lose one life, but at least you go through to the next level. Is the game intended to work that way?

@@yurtyurt2102 ah okay, thank you!
Why wouldn't everyone just count seconds to know when to play. Seems like once everyone learns this then the game becomes trivial. One Mississippi, two Mississippi... Then a round would take no more than 100 seconds. 12:00 They even added a ticking clock sound into the video.

I think a good strategy for the higher levels is to just play a really high card sacrificing a life to effectively skip a level.
See, strategically... you *could* sacrifice a life if you played a really high number first. It would wipe out most of the table. Like, if you had a 91 in your hand, the chances of the players having any of the other cards is 9 percent... you'd lose a life, but in the 4th (third?) round of the third game, we see exactly that - they lose two lives, when they could have lost only one.
@ivanortiz94
5 жыл бұрын
yeah, but the problem is that one of the rules say you MUST put the smallest value card in your hand
36:25 I hate these kind of players who cheat in order to win.
With so many lives so late in the game they should have just tossed their highest card out first. It's only one life for a free round win and maybe getting another life back.

I tried watching just how this was played. The game itself is fun but watching them play it, it’s so cringey.
You are not allowed to give ANY KIND OF SIGNS to your teammates. You should actually play it blindfolded the whole game and take it off once you're done. This game is not fun by rules - people try to make it fun by just playing as they wish. Still downtime-of-a-game is not my type of game.
This game is sooooo dumb Imo
