I so miss these kinds off productions being available on television. In the U.S. they are now literally non-existent, broadcast or cable. This is the sort of production that caused me to fall in love with theater, which I regularly attend. Alas, I’m often the youngest member of the audience.

inkyguy I completely agree. It’s only recently that I’ve found so many of them available on KZread. Not only that but the tickets prices have gotten prohibitive. I remember when you could get great deals on tickets. Not anymore. I’ve found some great productions in local and state theaters (where I’m definitely the youngest in attendance). 😆

Thank you for this. I grew up on the BBC of the late 60s and 70s- a cultural richness of plays, intellectual debate and comedy that would be unimaginable today . The BBC regularly broadcast the classics and newly written pieces, with the finest actors, directors and adaptations. Nothing was " dumbed down" or "sexed up". My mother used to say that it was like our own university and theatre -genuine public service broadcasting. I should love to see more , thank you.

You are articulating my thoughts about the BBC as well yet this was written 5 years ago and much trash has come to light concerning the BBC in the time being. As they have the saying, according to Folk's Law, the rot starts at the top and works down. Bad judgement and corrupt ideas and misconceptions have severley hindered the BBC in healthy direction. Now, anything of no particular worth is "culture". The" Good ", and I do not mean "pure", is annhilated and trash is proported as treasure. I think we are going through a collective global renaissance where everything is confronted and challenged and good becomes evil and vice versa until the wheel of life has and does, finally turn back to where it started. "Good" will endure and triumph over bad even though evil seems to always have the upper hand.

Maggie Smith is brilliant in this and Tom Baker is brilliant and wonderful as well to watch. His screen presence and charisma is undeniable. I wish his character had been used even more in this. Tom is also handsome as the Egyptian Doctor with a gorgeous voice and could make me go anywhere with him!
