I am 31 and gave up long ago. I am never settling down and working a 9 to 5. I will do odd jobs and live for myself, because I need freedom and autonomy and enjoy the free things in life like a walk in nature more than anything money can buy.

This man gets it. At the end of 07, I sensed something was going astray and began a frugal lifestyle and utilizing/taking advantage of investments. ‘08 hit and was blessed with, while low pay, a job that paid on time and was consistent. Wife and I lived in a garage and saved like crazy. Drove a car for $1000. Couponed like crazy. Saved like mad. It paid off and gave us a really good safety net of savings. Live as frugal as can be. As the old saying goes: “You are always potentially one paycheck away from being broke.”

Yeah. The state IL says I cannot use Google maps to navigate while driving my car minding my business. They scammed me out of $170. Then they want to charge $152 for 4 inch license plate sticker. Probably another 80 dollars for city sticker. OK but job wants to pay 16 dollars an hour. Hmmm. Guess yall forcing me to abuse your system then. Let's do business assholes

I worked in tech for a seafood company and they provided me with a home, food and laundry service. They laid mostly everyone off and now I'm a digital nomad 😬

I still use an MP3 player and I still buy CDs from time to time also I don't have a smartphone but I understand I am not the norm. As far as owning a home or land, we have never owned a home or land in the U.S.A. because if you don't pay the annual taxes they will take it away from you and you have to pay those taxes forever. Also, money is just an illusion that we have all agreed upon. If I have a garden and you have a million dollars but no food and you offer me money for my food but I say no then your money is worthless. So, fiat-currency, crypto-currency, and precious metals are only as valuable as what someone is will to exchange them for.

You’re dead on. I’ve had these luxuries as a GenX and you always think that things will stay the same or that there will always be opportunities but this is wrong thinking. You gotta make sure you maximize your resources and not overextend yourself in more ways than just money. Take care of your body it’s got to carry you through the years and your mind, stop doing drugs or alcohol this will erode your ability to make better decisions and save your money!

You hit everything on the nail. It's crazy how things have changed so much within 3 years. My anger and frustration towards our current economic state is motivation to get out of the rat race. If you are a milinineal or Gen Z, understand you will NEVER be able to retired doing a 9-5. We need to figure out how to fund it with other endeavors. That's the only way considering how bad our cost of living crisis has become.

Finally someone who understands and speaks my language. In Denmark the transportation system is impeccable but yet gullible people still go for financed cars which outrageous taxes levied on top just to drive it in Denmark. I have no debt but still scared of the way things are going?.

It’s actually pretty liberating when you realize how much you *dont* need. Spotify, prime, grubhub subscription 👎🏻. Now I pirate everything, eat healthier than ever, and feel an odd sense of freedom spending my time outside and in the moment.

Seems like with the allocation of resources. It is not the people don’t want to work. They want proper boundaries between themselves and work, but that is seen as non-negotiable with a company perhaps new policies will be put in place but that is a better way to have a worklife balance if you’re working so much that you can’t even, have time to do things in life you’re creating a system that is nonfunctional. Burning out, creates no rest and there’s no incentive and mentality mental health is not seen.

I had a job with a big pest control company. Your on call 24/7 if anyone of your customers see something you have 24 hours to get back there. Pay start good but goes down over the years if you do the small poor towns. Also if you go on vacation you will loss clients because the other coworkers will steal them. The worst thing all these companies track you using gps.

Why would you want to own anything that depreciates ? Why would you want to own a car that will be a 90% loss at the end of its life ? Why would you want to own and maintain a home, and pay 2-3 times the purchase price by the end of a 30 year term ? Seems like that line was taken and run with by people who don't really own anything now.

Great summary; that's why the long-term goal is and should always be passive income - let your money work for you.

My great grand parents went through the depression , no welfare , ssd , had ptsd , bodies destroyed from life time of hard manual labor and they ended up with bad off homes and millions , quitting is not an option , no one cares work harder , u don’t need a Bugatti , u don’t need a Gucci bag , not everybody can be a successful KZreadr , my advice is get into the trades , hard work , not sexy but I know electricians , carpenters, plumber making well over 200 k and have to say no to work , “ I’ve never seen a wild thing feel sorry for yourself , a little bird will fall frozen from a bough with never feeling sorry for itself “ DH Lawrence , Time to Man Up
