Oh, wow! Brings me back to my college days. Used to be a HUGE Bosstones fan. They were at the vanguard of the Third Wave Ska scene in the late 80s early 90s.

The singer wrote the song - he had a friend who became sick with a serious illness - I read the friend had AIDS. What the singer is asking himself is he doesn't know if he were struck down with a serious illness or life threatening event if he would have the strength to fight it, keep on living. He's never had to deal with a horrible life event, knock on wood, and if he had to, he doesn't know if he could deal with it.
He wrote the song after his friend died
Its kind of a mixed bag song but in like trying to muster a bunch of different emotions and the lyrics kinda play on that, on comedy about being cocky but considering theres weakness in it, its kinda "weird" but i feel that kinda makes it as good as anybody might feel it is
