The Methods of Pak Mei (part 2) - Kung Fu of Hong Kong ep5

Pak Mei, also written as Bak Mei or Pai Mei, was often portrayed as the villain in Kung Fu films - the enemy of Shaolin. There is actually a style named after him, which finds its origins in the Hakka people of Southern China. In this episode, we meet with Master Daniel Lai, who is a direct inheritor of the art, to find out more.

    Once upon a time I over heard Pak Mei tell someone from the Qing government, Pak Mei said, " I've already killed the head priest, so don't worry about it. The disciples are well aware of the fact that my Kung Fu is unbeatable. So you just keep searching for them. You'll capture them all in the end." All your documentaries are great, keep up the good work. No Kung Fu, No Life.

    Straightening out the spine by trucking in the chin (smoothing the cervical spine) and tucking under the tail (flat lumbar spine) prevents the whiplash effect being effective and also allows movement of the legs without large movement of the upper torso allowing for sweeps and unifies the body. @2:19 I may be wrong but I get a sense that there is a spiral energy or momentum when ht takes the hit. Instead of taking force by force heès dsappating and spiralling that engergy through into his own punch.

  • @Saviohno

    @Saviohno

    6 ай бұрын

    Yeah, we try not to take force by force, and the way we block actually hurts the person attacking by using our entire structure to take the hit, like the car hitting the tree analogy my sifu made in episode one. By receiving the strike with the right structure, the force dissipates into the ground. If they strike while their structure is compromised and our structure is intact, their structure is damaged (kind of like the Sifu game)

    Funny thing is, there is said to be a five point technique, but it is said of the dragon leaving claw marks on your body that are destroying your organs slowly from within. Maybe they just fracture your spleen or liver something. You already experienced it from Baji that most fightable style come from style combinations. Actually it is a very common strategy in china to scatter information, so that you would need to learn the complete system to fully understand or harness its power. Would be interesting if you guys could ask sneakily the heads of the styles if they learnt all styles and are just teaching one version of it. Like learning all 5 crane styles but only giving like whooping crane on their lineage to the next generation.

    Its doubtful that Claws would be capable of Precision point striking, that is deep enough to cause a lethal strike. Theoretically, the so called Five Point method... is to simply use Dim Mak finger strikes to at least two different blood carrying vessels. The power of Dim Mak, causes the Tissues to become so Enflamed, that they will swell up to the point where blood flow will be extremely reduced, or blocked completely. By hitting at least two different areas, it would greatly help to prevent the circulation from eventually re-flowing. Now... at that point... and additional points being hit.. might help cause enough internal hydraulic pressure, to cause a rupture to the Heart. Of course... IMO... all that is not even needed. If you want to destroy the heart... you could just use a Lethal Fajin strike, directly to the heart... and cause a rupture that way, FAR quicker and Easier. That said... Dim Mak's hits can cause the OP to experience Over whelming pain, trouble breathing, and then them going into a state where their Conscious state, starts to shut down. This can be effective for getting a quick hit in, that... within a few seconds of time.. will cause them to be utterly defenseless / useless. At that point, you can choose if you want to "End" them.. or merely to Bind them up. In general... Claws are to cause additional pain (or for Grappling).. Not for striking specific pressure points. Its more of a Wide Surface Area wrecking ball, rather than a pinpoint precision tool.

I hope you have some lenity for me, but neither do i indulge in fantasy of this kind nor how to construct such a thing. @@PaMuShin I can assure you, that Shaolin Kung Fu done PROPERLY, is easily Lethal. And thats not even counting the +15 different lethal weapons that they trained with. After my 5th year of Hardcore training in Wing Chun, and cross trained in many other arts methods... I had "Decent" power levels. However, I decided to specifically develop an entire month, to nothing but Short Range power generation... This was 1 hour per night, non stop... every night. By the end of this period.. I developed Masterclass (LEATHAL) level Power output potentials, within less than 2 inches of Runway / Space. Obviously, you cant easily Verify such a thing, without serious consequences. That said... when I sparred against some very disrespectful fighters... I used my mostly extended LEAD guard hand.. to perform a short range vertical fist to these fighters foreheads. These were done with less than 6 inches of travel... and I never used more than about 15% of what I was capable of delivering. Each time, it was an EASY Knockout. If you can KO an experienced and hardened competition fighter, from less than 6" of travel... and only 15% of what you are fully capable of... its very easy to realize, that even at 50% level, its going to cause Brain Damages. And anything close to 70%, is easily going to Rupture things. Anyways... not too long ago, I was doing a demo for an experienced MMA fighter. I was using one arm against his Two. After about 2 min worth of efforts.. he still could not get a single hit on me... as I easily parried each attempt... This causes him to be frustrated to the point where he got embarrassed and Angered. Rather than remain at Medium (safe) levels of power.. as we previously agreed upon... he amped up to Full power, with actual intent to cause harm. Of course... since power is FELT not seen... I had no way of knowing this, until it was too late... He fired off a High to Low combination. A high right hook towards the side of my head.. followed instantly by a low-line punch towards my abdomen. I easily parried his hook with an Upwards forearm deflection (Tok Sao)... then took a single step backwards, while dropping my arm vertically downwards, into the path of his next incoming punch. I used a downwards forearm deflection (Jut Sao), with about 10% level of Fajin energy on it. At that level.. and his own former levels... it would not have been an issue. HOWEVER, since he chose to go full power, full strength, full body mass energy commitment... the IMPACT forces were VASTLY multiplied. Not only did this easily parry and halt his attack... but it almost shattered his arm bones. Within less than an hours time.. the injury swelled up nearly Double in diameter, and he was in Severe pains for many days to follow. (I believe it was a partial Fracture, but I cant be certain) There are a lot of Frauds out there... like "Dillman" ...that know the various Chinese mapped out pressure points.. HOWEVER, Dillman doesnt know, nor have, "Fajin" expression... and without Fajin power generation abilities.. you are not going to get actual "Dim Mak" type of results. At best... he might be able to mildly effect some skinny weakling, that has never worked out a single day in his life. But when he tried the same methods against hardened fighters, that were fit and strong... it did Nothing. Thats because you need a LOT more energy levels... in order to be able to penetrate through the much tougher tissues, and denser bones. If you search up "Glen Levy Fajin", you will see a few of his short-ish range fajin hits (I probably had Double his output, with half the runway space). He easily drops two different dudes... one of which is a much larger fighter / teacher. Glen was on a program called Fight Science many a moon ago. They tested his short range power... and the Sensor that previously stood up to full power Pro Boxing strikes, and Muay Thai + TKD kicks... The sensor was DESTROYED... by Glens hit. So, they put in a difference Sensor. The kind of sensor that can widthstand a high speed Airplane Crash.. and still measure + survive. This time, the Sensor read over 12,000 PSI. Most full swing boxers strikes, are well under 2000 psi. The Discovery channel didnt want to publish such data to the public... so they said that his strike was the same level of forces involved in a +60 mph car crash. Let me tell you... as crazy outlandish as it SOUNDS... this stuff is 1000% Real. I can do it... and... Ive had the pleasure of having a different Master, perform such a hit on myself... From a single INCH of space. I barely moved a single step backwards... but it felt like someone had poured gasoline on me, and lit my chest on Fire. My chest burned unbearably... for just shy of 4 hours long. I was just about to drive myself to the ER, to get x-rays, to make sure I was ok.. internally... when the pains finally subsided. I was no cream puff either... as I had been doing Shaolin style Iron Body conditioning for YEAR at that point. Had I not... Im not certain I would have survived that hit. I had told him that I was an artists, that was well conditioned... so not to hold back... and he surely complied with that. Any more than that 1" of travel, and I wouldnt be alive, to be able to comment, today. While such things are in fact a Fantasy to those that do not have such skills, and have never felt such power... To Masterclass level fighters like myself.. we have learned the actual Truth. A truth that many of the ELITE do not want spread to the general masses... and they do all that they can, to try to prevent it.. and corrupt the high level arts (which is why most arts have been Sportized, long ago).

    @@PaMuShin Part 2: Some other Details: One of the original Shaolin skills, was Iron Finger. A monk was able to rest against the side of wall, and with a single finger... hold the mass of his body inverted, for extended periods of time. Can you think of any reason, why someone would train that kind of skill? Do you think a finger that Strong.. is for Non Lethal strikes?! Nope. Its for being able to penetrate quick and deep, into the OPs flesh / organs... without breaking. Yes... The monks were against violence and killing. HOWEVER... if they could not stop attackers with non-lethal forces.. they in fact WOULD end these attackers lives. Being that they were alone in the Mountains... they were regularly attacked by wild animals, as well as robbed by groups of Bandit Thieves. These Thieves would steal their precious religious artifacts. As a result.. their original training.. which was merely some various Exercises... turned into Combat training methods. This included many different Bladed Weapons. Ive read / heard, for example... that their Butterfly swords were left intentionally Dull... except for the very last few inches of the blade. This would allow them to TRY to get the attacker(s) to leave unharmed... but if they had no choice, they would in fact, use the Razor Sharp part of the blades, to End things. I also have met (and sparred against) a fighter that knew about 7 different arts. Most all were from Chinese systems. He showed me an Example of how the "Tiger" functions, from the "5 Animal Style". I believe the first move was parry, with a diagonally upwards palm to the under-side of the OPs chin. This was designed to cause his head to be flung backwards and to turn towards the Opposite side. This was immediately followed by a full powered Tiger Claw swing attack, to the Opposite side of the OPs Jaw. He stated that this sequenced was specifically designed to take the Jaw off of its Hinges. And seeing this dudes Massive Forearms... I knew he was very easily capable of it. Realize that a larger number of Chinese men were learning Kung Fu, since they were like 3 yrs old, back then. As such.. you could NOT be some Faker, or Pushover. Either you were top of your game... or you might not live very long. These dudes were on a whole other level of "Toughness".. and as such, you needed to have some of the highest levels of output power... just to be able to Effect some of these fighters. Now... that said... the REAL Shaolin monks and teachings... are NOT what is being taught in Modern Day China. The Commies burned the Shaolin Temple down to the Ground, during their Commie Revolution. They also banned the practice of ANY martial art... for like over 60 years. If you were caught, you were tortured and executed. They probably also executed a few generations worth of your family members, just to be sure, that the knowledge was not passed to anyone else. They feared (and still fear) an uprising against their Corrupted Power and Control. When they eventually lifted the bans, and recently rebuild the temple (more for Tourists, than anything else), they could only find ONE Surviving Monk.. and he was in his 80s... deemed too old to teach. So, they installed fake Shaolin teachers, and taught a watered down, largely Theatrical version of the Shaolin arts. The main focus for their monks, is merely to teach them Acrobatics Tricks... so they can parade them all over the world, to do shows, for money.
