I haven't commented for a long time, but I haven't missed a second of every video. I just want to give you guys some encouragement, don't ever change to suit what part-time viewers want, which is the complete build done in 30 minutes. I have been watching since the very 1st episode of this build and will til the last, and then beyond. You guys have come so far and it truly is a joy to watch you work all of this out. Many people have no idea the amount of time that goes into planning, learning, and then finishing a project. That's forgetting the KZread video production on top of all of that.

Wow, been watching on an off since the start. Can't believe how much work is involved you two are amazing for not giving up!!

When this beauty is finally in the water, I will need to keep reminding myself: "Built by 2 people".

Thanks for the kind words. It's been pretty boring with just sanding, fairing and glassing, but hopefully that's about to change and we can get to the more exciting parts of the build

Dedication is spelled... MJ Sailing ! I've been changing out the sacrificial marine canvas on our Gib. I've had to dig deep to finish. You guys are amazing.

First episode I have watched in a very long while. Still sanding and fairing. I remember way back when the hull sections were being assembled that adding an additional layer of glass was strictly forbidden in order to keep the boat as light as possible. 4,000 lbs of fairing compound later (99% being sanded off), and you’re still trying to get things perfect. Your relentless determination is admirable. My hat off to both of you. I’m certain that no one wants to see that boat completed more than you two, but at what point does being a sailor overtake the need to be a boat builder? Please hire some professionals for at least the fairing part of this build. It would take them less than a week to have the entire boat ready for paint.

Copyright BS? Not hating, but when you write and record your own music and have it played without permission by others, then you can complain.

So I am doing a simular build at this stage, and I can tell you, the finish takes a lot of time. Sad reality but you guys are like me, optimistic to say the least. I wish you both tons of tenacity, you’ll need it. Livin our dreams

Fibreglass and sanding has to become the ultimate hated job after a while. It will be good to see you getting to final paint. The process of building out this boat has been much more complex than I could have ever imagined.

We underestimated the amount of work it would take to fair out the interior too. We originally based our estimate on other amateur builds, but after looking over their completed boat, realized why they were so quick. The pro yards are similar to our build hours when the interior is done like this.

Some things take awhile to get done. That's just how it is on boat projects.

The one thing we've said about this build from the beginning is that we want to complete it by ourselves. Yes, it has pushed back our launch date much further than we originally expected, but we know the sense of accomplishment when she goes in the water will be worth it.

I've got the identical little belt sander...I love it and call it my "magic eraser"...lol

I believe with all the experience you have now, a video that focuses on tips, products and such things would be a great assett and could gain maybe good reach compared to the "vlog/update" style of videos, since I can imagine it to be pretty hard for new viewers to get invested now. Anyways, keep up the great work, I am eager to see the boat and you evolve further ^-^

I never really feel comfortable giving any advice since we are far from experts. We try to only show how we did something --- more as an example than as a guide.

It’s nice seeing you getting close to finishing the interior sanding and painting. Your shoulders have got to be killing you from the overhead work.

Matt, are you going to leave a small access on cabin side to get to the pulleys on the steering cable box?

The access is through the cockpit cabinet. The area in the berth is separate to make sure no water gets in my bed :)

With all that you’ve learned on this build, and skills gained. If you started from scratch again, how much time do you figure it would save?

I think we'd probably add a liner to the hull sides if I were to do it again. That alone would take probably 6 months off this build. And the other modifications we'd make for ease of build would probably take off another 6 months. Overall, at least 1 year, but I think I could get to our current stage of build in 1 year if the stars aligned and we had everything we needed when starting.

Be careful of all the chemicals. My uncle passed at 43 working at the hunter sailboat factory

Great progress guys. What is your preference for sanders electric or air powered which have you found to be the most reliable👍

Air seems to be 100 times more reliable; does a better job sanding; and is lighter. But the sound of the air tool and compressor gets to be a bit much in an enclosed space like a boat.

no one is going to mention that the second half of the video is cut off?

@@daveamies5031 They can hire locals; but choose not to. The endless sanding the same bulkhead go boring and I stopped watching for months. And now on returning and seeing them no farther along confirms my exit from their videos again. But, go ahead and watch paint dry. At least Plucky shows progress.

@@dennispatrick4999 Dave is correct in that we're choosing not to hire helpers, even though it could get us through projects quicker and in the water much faster. We've always wanted this build to be completed by just the two of us, to prove to ourselves that we can accomplish such a feat. Will we lose a few viewers in the meantime because they find the sanding/fairing process to boring to continue to watch week to week? Yes. And we're ok with that. When we look back on this in 20 years we want our thoughts to be "Look at this magnificent thing we built with our own two (four) hands.". We're much less worried about thinking "Look how we held on to a few thousand extra KZread viewers to get this project finished as quickly as possible.". Hope that helps you see it from our side. 😉

We still need to add the bow and stern sections, but besides that, I think all the structural glass work is done.

@@MJSailing Oh well at least it was only a few seconds left and not in the middle of the video, it was odd because your videos are usually so polished that it was more noticeable I guess it would pay to put a pinned comment saying your aware of it so you don't get lots of comments about it

If you want to figure out how to stop your camera switching off whilst on time lapse then just say the make and model of the camera in the video and someone in the comments will know what buttons to press.

Matt tends to do that, but it takes up SO much storage space. I just have to take the time to go through the settings on our camera and make some changes.

Why would you not use hydraulic steering

It's mostly personal choice, but hydraulic steering, lacks feel when sailing, it's also very hard to get parts for in many countries, so if you have issues you could be stuck for many months waiting on parts, where as cable steering can be jury rigged with hand woven ropes if your desperate (not ideal obviously) Like everything else on a boat it's a compromise, there's no perfect solution.

For us it's the lack of steering feel with hydraulic. But it would be a lot easier to just run hydraulic hose :)

Most of the interior has thankfully moved past that stage now and this is the last time we'll have to experience that fiberglass itch until we move to certain areas of the exterior. 😍
