Hi Jon not sure if you'll see or read this but could you maybe check out the novels the rise of the guardian movie is based on because Jack's, Pitch and Man-In-The-Moon's stories, connection, and the real reason why jack is powerful and important to The-Man-In-Moon are amazing. I truly think you'd have a field day covering those characters and their back stories as presented in the books series they appear in (which has apparently shaped a lot of people's childhood on the level as the Narina novels did which makes it perfect for your channel) . Im so sorry for the long reply and I love your channel so much😊

This movie is one of my fav but the thing is the books are way more interesting.. It explores the original story of pitch black, jack frost, the man in the moon and their relationship. SPOILERS!!!! . Pitch black has one of the most heartbreaking stories i have ever read.. that is why he is very complex and one of my fav "villians" .. The story is pitch black wasnt always the nightmares king but a light general called *kozimos pintcher who protected a golden kingdom far away from earth..this kingdom was ruled by a nice and powerful king who trusted kozimos to protect his kingdom from the darkness and nightmares that were created by hate and envy.. So with an army behind him he manged to capture the darkness and locked it in seals meant to keep them away to create a peaceful world.. But these seals needed a guardian.. so the king chose kozimos for this cost.. Away from home and from his duaghter whom he loved dearly he graw tired and desperate to see her.. and the darkness used that to their benefit.. They imitated her voice into tricking him.. Letting him believe that she was prisoned with them.. "she" cried for her father to save her for years and in the end kozimos couldnt take it anymore and was forced to open the seals to save "his duaghter".. instead he got posessed by the darkness and became pitch black...he changed his golden warriors to nightmares and nightmare men and with them he manged to destroy the kingdom he once swore to protect and killed the king and the queen.. However.. before they were killed they had a one year old son called *manny.. and in order to protect him the king and the queen used a powerful magic and tear to create a star called *the nightlight who took the baby faraway from the fallen kingdom and into the moon.. pitch black followed them and fought the nightlight into a battle So huge it ended up freezing them both in a lake on earth that became frozen over decades .. After So many years the baby became *the man in the moon and with his power he tried to raise his guardin from the lake.. But in doing the nightmare king was a waken too and that was the start of the dark ages.. On The other hand the nightlight tried to stop him but with half of his power locked he failed to do So.... He lived among the humen and loved the human life and decided to became human himself.. So he locked away his memories and the rest of his power and born again as a baby named *Jackson overland frost.. Who died to protect his "sister" and with that the man in the moon raised him up again as jack frost and didnt tell him his story because he knew that is what the nightlight wanted in the first place.. That explains why pitch black knew the man in the moon and jack frost.. And why jack frost was So powerful.. And the reason why he was invicible was because jack died in the lake while all the other guardian didnt die.. they recieved powers from man in the moon that is why they remember their past life .. And can be seen and believed in.. There is a Beautiful fanfiction that explians the story way better than the movie.. It is jack frost /pitch black fanfiction with two parts the first called from the darkness we raised / the second called into the shadows we fall... Enjoy and remember.. In the end.. Believe in jack frost ♥️❤️

Honestly, I kind of love the Rise of the Guardians back story for Jack. It's probably the most solid origin story you're going to get. All other sources seem to be "He's just always existed". It's kind of funny that the RoG version kind of does for Jack what happens in the movie. Before he was more of an ephemeral concept than an actual character, RoG gave him a story and a personality, made him "real".

Santa is the reincarnate form of Saint Nicholas, I think Tooth was some kind of childrens doctor and I don't know about the Easter Bunny (forgot his name) but Sandman was personally created by the Man in the Moon I believe, which is why he and Pitch both have similar powers because they're both incarnate forms of concepts rather than from people like the rest of the Guardians.

Saint Nicholas was a theif i think and a swordsman and also he isn't the reincarnation of santa he *is* santa. I always think of Rise of the Guardians Jack when hearing Jack Frost, he does have an interesting story in the books as he was literally a star tasked to guard the prince of the moon, Manny. But after fighting Pitch, he traveled the human world until he decided to become a human which made him lose his memories and as he died protecting his "sister" he came back as Jack Frost, hench why Jack in the movie is stronger than anyone expected because he's original form is one of the strongest being exsisting.

Im from finland it made me very happy that kalevala is mentioned here. I personally believe jack frost originates from northern europe. Since here finland has many names for jack frost wich the most common pakkanen, others include Talven henki (winter spirit), and Puhuri (father of the Frost) and maybe Halla (Puhuri's daughter) There are many names to snow in winter. Lumi, puuteri, loska, halla, routa, etc... So i wouldn't be suprised if Jack frost is originated from northern people. Maybe i should check things up from Saamish people since they are original population of finland that currently lives in Lappi.

I live in a tropical country so my first exposure to Jack Frost was from the Rise of the Guardians movie. In fact, I was a little confused at first because while the concepts of Santa, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny were well-known (not so much Tooth Fairy unless you were raised watching American cartoons, but definitely the other two), Jack Frost and the Sandman were nonexistent. Most kids (including myself) never really understood where and why we got our dreams until we learned it in science class (no, that was a lie, until we research it ourselves to find the scientific answer) Jack Frost doesn’t exist… because we don’t have winter. I was pretty surprised to find out that he and the Sandman were not original characters made for the movie but instead actual mythos characters I was never raised to believe in.

So glad you mentioned the Michael Keaton version of Jack Frost. Could the Cold Miser from The Year Without Santa Claus be considered another version of Jack Frost?❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️ It's kind of a stretch, but perhaps Frosty could be considered some kind of version of Jack Frost. He shows up in winter and just wants to hang out with the neighborhood kids. One more idea that's a real stretch: Frozone from The Incredibles. Yes, he's technically a super hero, but to Dash, Violet and Jack Jack, he's Uncle Frozone, who delights them with his literally cool powers. Snorre Snulursun is definitely my favorite Norse name.

I've heard two people say that when they were kids, they each had a snow-day playmate named Jack. I can't remember the details of what the 2nd person said, but the first said that he had pale skin, white or blonde hair, and blue eyes. This Jack would only appear when it snowed, and he said he could appear as any age he wanted. The first person's mom assumed Jack was an imaginary friend because she couldn't see him. However, the mom changed her mind when she saw child-sized footprints in the mud underneath a frost-covered window. The prints couldn't belong to her child, because there would've been mud in the house. I'm pretty sure something similar happened to the 2nd person, although I might've blended the memories.

Although still, he doesnt go searching for her when he finds out she’s gone. So yeah, not the father of the year anyways.

My family and I celebrate the winter solstice as “Jack Frost Day” and we make winter/snow themed foods and sweets, crafts, and snowmen and play outside either sledding or just enjoying the snow. I tell my nieces that winter is very important for the rebirth we see in the spring and that animals and plants that hibernate need the sleep to continue their normal lifecycles. It’s the beautiful cleansing before the new stuff can grow. Thank you so much for doing this video (finally lol)! I’m going to show it to my sister this year for Jack Frost Day on the 21st. I knew his origins were super vague, but I didn’t realise just how vague they are. A lot of the stories that mention characters similar to him have been told (to me at least) as stories of old man winter/father winter, so it’s cool to know that he has such a strong presence in English literature, even if it is just mentions. My favourite portrayal WAS the Jack Frost movie with Kubla Kraus, but when Dreamworks came out with their version, I fell in love with his character instantly because that’s how i’ve always thought of him (not necessarily as a human turned sprite, but as a misunderstood mischief maker that just wants to have fun, even if it goes too far sometimes).

There's a weird, head-trippy Finnish _Jack Frost_ movie that _Mystery Science Theater 3000_ magnificently riffed, which _features_ Lemminkainen as the main protagonist of sorts (in this version, Jack is affable: Lemminkainen tends to be a bit of a brash jerk). Oh, further on in the video you show clips from that version, with its original title...

Well one thing for sure I love the Jack Frost from the Rankin-Bass Christmas special, because I got to learn the origins of where he came from. Helping for both Christmas and groundhog Day. But then on the other Rankin-Bass Christmas special frosty's Winter wonderland he got jealous at frosty the snowman, because the kids loved frosty more than Jack. I think it was because the kids didn't know Jack Frost that well, so that's why they loved frosty. But luckily from that animated movie special, Jack Frost sort of learned his lesson. And at the same time I should say he was like reborn, by accepting the fact that he should always be a good friend to frosty the snowman. And at the same time the kids will get to know him more than ever, and the kids would love to see him be close friends with frosty. And also Jack Frost appeared on the Rankin-Bass full length animated Christmas movie, Rudolph and Frosty Christmas in July. The reason why, because frosty and his family went to a Town far away from the North Pole. Because both Rudolph the Red-Nosed reindeer and frosty the snowman and his family were invited to be performers for a 4th of July circus, and along the way a villain by the name of winterbolt. Wanted Rudolph's nose to be extinguished and not light up anymore, winter boat was even mean at frosty the snowman and his family. Winterball was manipulating frosty and his family, trying to be kind to them and that they wouldn't melt in the summer weather. But by the time winter bolt was destroyed in the end, his powers that made frosty and his family to stay unmelted during the summer weather. Again frosty the snowman melted, as well as his family, but luckily Jack Frost came in and helped frosty and his family to get unmelted. So they can be able to go back to the North Pole. And then Jack Frost comes back for the Santa clause 3 and again he went back to his old ways of jealousy and being selfish at the same time, where he thought he can be Santa Claus and take over the North Pole and so forth. Which eventually did not work, and I should say it was terrible for Jack Frost to do that. Because he broke all of rules of what the North Pole is supposed to be, and what a true Santa Claus is supposed to be as well. And in this case the rules is supposed to be where nobody is supposed to know that a beautiful winter wonderland town at the North Pole exists, where it's all supposed to be in secret. And Santa Claus being such a generous and magical man, to travel around the world by reindeer once a year during Christmas Eve. To show his generosity and give lots of toys and goodies to all of the boys and girls around the world, kids of all ages. Because Santa Claus is truly the magical big man, and a generous Father Christmas. And then of course the movie rise of the guardians comes, and we see Jack Frost again. And we could see that he can be mischievous sometimes, but at least he doesn't go back pure evil. And he's not jealous, and not selfish anymore. But we see that he is a changed legendary figure, where he can be very nice and generous to anybody in the world. Just like Santa Claus, I guess Jack Frost had probably learned lots of lessons through the years, that Jack Frost is like Santa Claus in a way. Except he is Jack Frost, but at the same time trying to be a nice guy and a generous person at the same time. And even though I love Santa claus, Rudolph the Red-Nosed reindeer and frosty the snowman. At the same time starting from last year, I started to love Jack Frost at the same time. At first I was really scared of him, but realized that because he learned his lesson for years and years. I believe Jack Frost is not that bad anymore, he can be mischievous sometimes. But all in all, I really do believe his personality had changed, he was reborn and now he is a very nice and generous holiday figure. AKA folklore, winter legend

Possibly, Faust was based on a real person in Medieval Germany, who, by today's standards would be a polymath (or renaissance man before the term was invented). However, people in his time decided to demonize him by writing pamphlets about him saying he sold his soul to the devil for his vast (and advanced) knowledge and talents, or something to that effect.

Hey I love all your videos and been here since day one but I want to recommend something. You have done Greek mythology and northern mythology also. But you haven’t done the Chinese Mythology like “Sun Wu-Kong for example “ so I was wondering if you was ever gonna make videos base of this mythology or folklore of Chinese traditions. @JonSolo

I really like how they made the characters in rise of the guardians, all the details are really unique down to their eye details

So I remember the first time I ever heard the name it was in that movie with the groundhog, so then when I let her watch The rise of the guardians I was really really confused about why these two characters had the same name and similar Powers but completely different mythologies

Rotg fanfictions might have some of the most detailed Jack Frost backgrounds in history. I've read so many that make him the Unseelie king (dark fey), and it's so cool to see how much people love mythology in that fandom.

Theory. Ride of the guardians. Writers had a very hard time finding his origin story as well so not only did they incorporate that in the movie, but they decided to create one for him. To bring life and belief Just a theory

Morozko (1968) is on tv every Christmas here in Czechia, OMG it´a my childhood :D It´s not that weird compared to other russian fairy tales in film, but it is over the top and that´s part of the fun for me.
