The Merovingians

The Merovingians were one of the great dynasties of medieval Europe. This 30 minute video tells the story about the rise of the Merovingians, from Pepin the Short and Charles Martel, until the eventual rise of Charlesmagne. The video also dispells myths about Merovingian culture.

Small correction: "martel" is old French for "hammer" (modern French "marteau") so "Charles Martel" wasn't later known as "the Hammer", "Martel" itself is his later title "the Hammer".

I'll bet Charles Martel is spinning on his Charger over what's going on in Europe right now. I'm American by birth, but love the humor of the country of my ancestors. The Holy Hand-grenade schtick , the Black Beast of Aaaaaa ! ! ! This is the second reason why I love history. Teachers I have had and comedians with a sense of humor they aren't afraid to shamelessly utilize sparking interest and keeping people interested. Keep up the good works, Professor !

Funny that in English speaking literature, the battle between the Franks and the Moors is called the Battle of Tours. In France, we call it the Battle of Poitiers as it happened in Vouneuil just outside of Poitiers, a good 40 miles south of Tours. It's probably referred to as such because of Tours' episcopal status. Really good video by the way. You managed to squeeze quite a bit in short half hour.

  • @RyanReevesM

+BlunderCity // Yes I think the name of the battle was later changed, but you're right that it's simultaneously known as Poitiers and Tours in the literature. I thought about it when crafting the audio lecture, but went with Tours, as it's the one that's most common. But you're right that Poitiers is the REAL location.

i have to watch out. because lacerta / tan cloak reptilian has turned me off multidimensionaly , yet she knows that i am going to turn myself back on. so her minions follow me sometimes along with different agencies. some agencies or should i say different beings like to control others using such technology's as project :bluebird and artichoke, lol they are trying to create super solders that can be easily controlled. But how to remove the control factor. The embeded command such as "The pizza is ready" they do use blank slate technology and different aspects of beta/alpha/theta/delta brainwave programming. sealing in certain types of energy into the body so they can control you alot better. the question is... how to release that trapped energy? it's killing and creating darkness. like a empty shell ... when i was starting to develop my light-body, traveling to different planets , parallel words , dimensions /planes of existence , accessing my own soul matrix.access time/space streamline. accessing multidimensional streamline of all. and other abilities however. it is a must to master my own self before i encounter lacerta again. her group and minions are one of the responders when people have contact/communications of beings that are existing outside or by earth.

The long hair probably had to do with Astrology. Leo represents the warrior, and it's mane (long hair) represents the powerful rays of the sun. Regarding the bees, it may have to do with certain genetics which they share (RH - bloodtype) which allows them to work as a hive mind for the queen bee.

During the battle of Tours, did the rising sun also help, given it was cold, and winter like terrain, I would think the snow blindness from trying to rush an Eastern hill might have played a slight role in the battle. OF course, I could be way off here. I'm just an old guy who likes history.

I enjoyed your lecture immensely and have subscribed. May I offer some English observations? 1. The "s" is not silent in flour de lis. 2. We do not harken back; we hark back. 3. "...to those who had loyalty with him..." Should be, "loyalty to him." 4. incorrect: "All four of the brothers did not live long enough..." Correct: None of the four brothers lived long enough..." 5. "The three oldest brothers died relatively quickly." I think you mean they died soon, not quickly. 6. (Of Brunhilde) She was an historical figure." Although it's become popular to say "an historical" it is incorrect because the H in "historical" is not silent. So when we say it was "an honor," that is correct because the H in "honor" is silent. Thanks again.

In Serbian history textbooks, it is even worse. He is called Pipin the Small (truth be told, not many 13 year olds in Serbia care or should care about them, so it is not a big deal anyway). Although I was probably only 13 when we were first thought about this crew, I was kinda perplexed so as to why was he called the Small when obviously he was a sort of a badass. I though this was because he was really short, but now it makes sense. By the way, could Le Bref be translated as The Laconic One?

is it just me, or is it obvious which characters in G.O.T. got their inspiration from, when watching this? Love the videos! History is so much more entertaining than fiction!

At 14:10, the women standing in the middle amoung the four news kings is Clotilde, wife of Clovis, not brunhilda. Because of the mutterreicht, like Brunhilda, she had to become like a king acting in the shadow because, three of the four kings here was to young for owning a kingdom

The bees found in Childerics tomb likely are symbolic of the Norns in Germanic mythology. The three sisters[godesses] who spin the Web of Wyrd, In part representing past, present and future. I doubt any relationship to Egyptian mythology.

I wish you could have elaborated a bit more about Meroveck mother's origins; The fisher kings descendant of the house of David. Also you don't mention Charlemagne's mother, who is a pure Mérovingien herself. Talking about blood lines is important to mention as well that Pépin and Charles Martel are direct descendant of Meroveck's younger brother. Meroveck and his brother didn't have the same father. Expect for these lacunes I really enjoyed your lecture. Especially the details about the Frankish paganism and the battles lead by Charles Martel.
