You gotta think about Rigsby laughing when he is told he can do whatever he wants. Just think about that moment for him. Your job has molded you to follow rules, to do the job to the letter, and that job, whether ppl realizes it or not, it translates to their off-duty life, just cause you're off the clock doesnt mean you can disregard those rules. Now imagine for 1 day, you can literally do whatever you want. Remove the inner voice that tells you whether you should or shouldn't, that voice that says "I don't think I can do this", and the voice that says "this wouldnt be okay". The moment you realize & FULLY BELIEVE you can do whatever you want, you won't get in trouble no matter what, and that EVERYTHING is okay. THAT is why he was laughing, because the part of him that tells him "no" was silenced or turned off. He was allowed to be FREE, genuinely free. But as you know, without those mental barriers in our heads telling us "no", the world would erupt into chaos. Chaos is the absence of inhibition/restraint. And for the 1st time, your inhibition, your restraint is shut off. Now you know why he was smiling, laughing, and looked like he could cry. To be that free is not something any of us really experience. Even the Joker has inhibition.

​@@smurfyday Yes, he was attracted to Lisbon, but at that time, he only cared about killing Red John, his guilt for his family pushed everything else aside. Killing Red John was his greatest desire at that time. He found Lisbon attractive, but he didn't blink a eye when she dated other guys, or when he learned she slept with them. So kissing Lisbon wouldn't be something he wished he could do. He wasn't carrying a flame for her. Rigsby was in love with Van Pelt, and her dating other guys, made him react. Because he wanted her, Jane only wanted Red John. He didn't care what happen to himself after he reach that goal. He only started to see Lisbon differently, after Red John. Till then, his life was chasing Red John.

I'm glad that they showed accurate hypnosis

This is not accurate hypnosis. This is the vodoo-hollywood-magic version of hypnosis. I know this, because i was hypnotized before due to therapy. You can always wake up yourself and you're not "away" like it's always depicted in movies.

​@@soviisubedi282 I mean, yes, there's generally a correlation between trance depth and control, but in general, most subjects do have a degree of control over trance at almost any depth, especially when primed to do so. What @Aspartem is describing is therapeutic / clinical hypnosis, which is regulated and designed to have that built-in control and consent; that said, there ARE flavors of hypnosis which are not nearly so... kind. In this episode, we see a variant of waking trance - basically, that the person is still in trance, even though they act as if they are awake. Yes, a suggestion (or two) has been deeply lodged in the subconscious to be acted out later; that could be done waking or sleeping - in fairness, i would have gone about it a different way (wakeful, but forgetting the triggers until used, and then trance memories flushed.) Although i'll point out there's no physiological indicators for trace, but hey, it's made for TV, so i wouldn't expect that. Similarly, the 'key card' method - where only the SPECIFIC TRIGGER can get the person awake again - is fallacious. It wouldn't be hard to come in behind the hypnotist and sever the association and awaken them, especially since the subject had already shown such suggestibility - and if Jane knew enough to discern he was tranced in the first place, and to place the suggestion, he should have easily been able to counteract that. But, again, made for TV. xD Source: Me, a hypnotist for about twenty six years and who has dabbled extensively in deprogramming malicious work for ten.

The hypnotist essentially has the ability to create the switch because it's used with a word to snap them in or out. Now who was it that talked about hypnosis again 🤔 oh that's right I remember.. and umm who is it that enjoys a switch? Oh yes that's right the sexual master because it gives him greater power over others hmm ? So maybe it's a man who actually doesn't trust his own natural ability to gain or remain in control.. the need to control others is so intense that he / she will use anything to remain in that upper position.. though in fact he may not have the grandiose typical alpha male or woman persona but appear to be quite humble. Now who was it that showed pics of a light switch again?? Oh yes that's right Leon and lady. Both were oversized too. So seeing things from the other side of the coin essentially was used to create the switch. I spent time talking with both. Leon had said his mother was Chinese. It's known the Asians are exceptionally good with mind powers.. Asia I'm pretty sure includes the likes of the Shaolin monks and some of the things they do are exceptional. Leon was going through different things within Christianity and lady well she saw no real issues with all religions. Not all religions can be truth.. so where does religion come from? I would suggest that the father of lies .. also known as the prowling lion.. who seeks who can be devoured robbed and destroyed hmm ?? Jesus told the religious to fuck off more or less. Geeking was more Asian based from what I could see because all the jap or Asian names that were so foreign I had no fucking idea about them and they definitely didn't want me in geeking.. yet I'm the racist 😯 well isn't that just a double standard now.. hmm? Even though when in chatiw I said I enjoyed Asian film and MMA and the likes.. how quickly it's forgotten it seems. I had contacted an Asian artist even because I was so impressed with his work.. that I had seen on an sbs show.. with the abos. So how the fuck did I become the enemy of the world.. there were people lying their asses off clearly. Just like when I got my second iPhone and there were Asian names in it.. why? Then the people I chatted with started turning up in face book feeds etc. Why? I'd never really had Asian friends before.. not because I'm racist but id never been in the same social circles .. so don't tell me people weren't working on some bullshit .. collecting data or information about others. It's fucking insulting and dangerous. Yet I was asked from "John" what turned me on.. playing cops and robbers.. spy games or soldiers.. some shit like that.. so the real question is what was their motive and what the fuck was their issue with me exactly.. why were people being threatened and harrased online? I just wanted a sexual revolution where people got the fuck over their issues and had fun because religious connotations have damaged relationships and people's sexuality. THAT is what pissed me off and why I continued to do ad I did but ohhhh no they wanted to make me out to be the slut or the harlot that was a home wrecker.

I enjoy the mentalist and this is one of my favorite episodes but at its core it's just another procedural cop show about an eccentric guy genius/expert and a super serious no nonsense female cop with a group of body cops who solve crimes using the guy genius and his unconventional methods. Psych, Monk, Rosewood, Limitless, Perception, Castle, Eleventh hour, Lucifer and the list goes on. What would have made me love this show and avidly watch every week would have been Rigsby getting up and kissing Cho. Now that's different and new :)

I mean, at their core the kind of are, but more in the way all procedural cop shows with major influence from Sherlock Holmes are all similar at their core, it's their different tones, additions and styles and that make them different and interesting.

A completely original idea these days is rare. You're almost always going to be able to draw similarities from one idea to another. Doesn't mean they're the same. Personally I hate the show Castle and a few others mentioned. Him getting up and kissing Cho wouldn't have made it different. The show isn't defined by the love interests of the characters.

In this case, he's already in a trance. Plus a real induction takes a minute to several minutes, depending on the subject, minutes and they don't have the screen time for that.
