The Menopause Manifesto | Jen Gunter | TED Talks Daily

The TED Audio Collective is a collection of podcasts for the curious.
There are only two mammals who have evolved to survive after their childbearing years: toothed whales and humans. This stage of life is called menopause, and it makes humans an evolutionary wonder! Dr. Jen Gunter, host of the podcast Body Stuff, talks to Elise about her book "The Menopause Manifesto." Afterwards, listen to an excerpt from Dr. Jen's podcast, where she reviews the history of this process many of us will go through, shares tips on managing hot flashes and talks about why menopause shouldn't be viewed as the end of the race -- but rather as a victory lap. This episode is part of the TED Talks Daily summer book club, a series featuring talks, interviews and podcast episodes to inspire your next great read.

The way you offer new words: Jensplaining, fangirling (is that the word?), and the best - climacteric, opens one of many new doors. Thanks for the great history, the patriarchal education of women, and a new way of viewing menopause - I could never think of one thing good about it though I had it easier than many. Now I may reconsider. My menses, on the other hand, were a nightmare with severe endometriosis. Still, I wanted my period back. Because when the period went, I felt old for the first time - and that's exactly why I need your podcast and probably your book.

This is engaging and very interesting. I appreciate the history and the metaphors to explain things more clearly.
