This is very true!
What explanation, other than capture by the insurance industry and/or corruption, could there be for CMS to continue escalating this push to privatize Medicare, despite the clear and mounting evidence it's more costly and less effective? And how is it legal to market it as Medicare when it is not? How is it legal to move people onto these plans without their consent? And finally, how do you recommend we fix the problem, given the powerful vested interests that will fight any changes?

Must have the enrollee's consent to move or enroll them into an Advantage plan. But some may not fully understand what they are consenting to.

@@g0989 there is a newish Medicare program called ACO REACH and Direct Contracting which DOES enroll Medicare beneficiaries without their knowledge, based on their doctor. You can hear Rep Katie Porter discuss this on KZread by searching on "Katie Porter ACO" or "Katie Porter REACH".

This boils down to the classic debate between fee for service and managed care ie capitation. While each side has its valid points, capitation's point is the loudest since it has money behind it. The Medicare "E" option that the author is referring to is most likely "public option," which is when the gov independently runs a nonprofit health plan to compete with the market. But, aside from the fact that Big Health Care will spare no expense to stop it, voters will reflexively react to anything resembling "socialism," which public option basically does.
