Bijapur (Vijayapur, 10th cent.) became the main city of allied muslim sultanates in the 16th century. In the next 200 years many muslim buildings arose around this (now small) place on the deccan plateau during the Adil Shahi dynasty. For himself and his family he built this enormous mausoleum , with a 1700square meters hall and a cupola almost as large as st. Pieters in Rome.
