The Massive Underground City Discovered by Chickens

Back in 1963, a homeowner (whose name we unfortunately don’t know) in the Cappadocia region of Turkey was mysteriously losing chickens. Whilst renovating his home he noticed they were escaping into a small crevasse, and with a little bit of digging and investigating he discovered a small dark passageway, revealing the first of over 600 entrances into a massive ancient underground city: Derinkuyu.
This city extends 200 feet underground and was once home 20,000 people. But who built it, and why? And why was it abandoned? Let’s see what we can discover as we examine The Forgotten City of Derinkuyu (discovered by chickens!)
