I felt bad when Periphery released two singles/videos recently and two hours before the drop Jeff Beck died. I know it seems trite on the surface, but all guitar headlines should have been about the Periphery release and that is gold for a band that runs thier own label. That was engulfed by Jeff Beck headlines. I'm rooting for them to get sales since the $$$ isn't being diverted to a trad record label for a change.

Yeah Jeff Beck and Periphery definitely have the same audience. So many boomers could have flocked.

Then they put out a single (Atropos) the same day that Sleep Token puts out a new song, which has been riding this high since “The Summoning”. It’s like the Horizion games, with the first one releasing the same month as Breath Of The Wild, and then the second game releases the same month as Elden Ring

@@Soldano999 you've clearly missed the point of this comment. It's not about a boomer musician dying and his audience being fans of this band. It's the bandwidth that was taken from Periphery because all the media outlets were focused on the death of a legend. My God, it's almost like you just typed this out without thinking. Or breathing out your mouth.

They really don't make all that much money from Periphery. They make money from their business efforts to fund doing Periphery.

I don't love cds because in my experience, they were made with very cheap and shitty materials and most cds I had when I moved out circa 2005 were unreadable, even those who were pristine, without a scratch.

I still buy CDs. It's probably some kind of psychological placebo effect driven by nostalgia, but I think they sound better.

Is that why a vinyl for a metalcore record is like $40? Also I heard Steve from equal vision records is possibly making an in house record pressing setup (used to work there )

have your friends thought about where they would buy the machinery to make the records and who would service it (when) something goes wrong, like errors in test pressings? ive always been under the impression that plants havent been opened because of these issues. hope im wrong, especially if youre in LA!

Misha did a good job of describing what economists call Opportunity Cost. Any person, regardless of his/her profession, would be well-advised to learn how to maximize the value of the time and effort it takes to undergo any endeavor.

Apparently there are only like 3 big factories that produce vinyl records on a large scale. With the release of mainstream artists like Taylor and Adele doing large scale multi variant vinyl releases it puts a hamper on everyone else, doesn't matter if your C list metal band or A list emo band, everyone is pushed back because the upswing in demand hasn't matched with production.

Likely making things worse was the large number of album releases in 2022, after the slowdown in recording in the early part of the pandemic.

Tim Pool mentioned getting a vinyl press of his own and the cost was around $75k, so I'm guessing it is a more personal use machine. Never thought vinyl would be in demand unironically past the "hipster" movement
