Toy lost both his younger brothers within a month of each other to car accidents. He was also a United States Marine Corps Vietnam War combat vet (WIA). That's him singing with incredible soul and thumb picking that beautiful Gibson Les Paul. Thank you for everything brother. Rest easy.

@@williamcabell142 Not all the time. Look at the Allman Brothers. Most of the time they were straight up blues. Seems like they all had their special sound. As far as just country and blues well you are very wrong. I've even picked up some jazz and blue grass tactics at times in southern rock. Really it had more to do with the times. Back in the 70's record companies let the artists be artists.

Angela got it right, focusing on the intro (flute) and the outro (harmonies) Rock n Roll can be at it's best when it mirrors teenage angst. And music is always about individual response. There was no band member named "Marshall Tucker". Originally, the band called itself The Toy Factory (named after lead-guitarist Toy Caldwell). But by the time the band released its first album they had become the Marshall Tucker Band. During a radio interview in Hempstead, NY in 1973, Tommy Caldwell explained the origins of the band's name: "There's an old blind dude that tunes pianos, and his name is Marshall Tucker… We didn't name the band after him, but we just kind of liked that name and stuck with it."

One of my personal biographical songs. MTB was one of the first southern rock bands along with Skynyrd and Allman Bros, but kept it more of a country sound. They also made playing the flute cool in rock music like Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. Also check out their "Fire on the Mountain", "Heard it in a Love Song".

To answer the questions you posed, The "Marshall Tucker" in the band's name does not refer to a band member, rather to a blind piano tuner from Columbia, South Carolina. The lead guitarist and sunger and primaruy song writer for the band was named Toy Caldwell. Sadly he is no longer with us.

Love this song,...I've had a few crazies in my time when even trying to give encouragement or try to change but was still put down in the end. So I've taken a few south bounds and never coming back, that's when you finally find out that it's not you that is the problem lol.

MT was more Country Blues Rock. LS was Southern Fried Blues Rock with quite a bit more emphasis on Rock, but the comparison is very good. ❤
