Lyrics:
I know the way he makes you hide
Even when the dose is fight or flight
And the obits wait for a perfect name
Clean out all the webs he left behind
And if you want, I could bury him out
By the salt on sea, in an empty grave
The past has a way of coming clean
If I didn’t know any better
I could have sworn you said,
“There will come a day for his reckoning”
It's the want of the weight when it crushed
All the centrifugal ways our lives fall in and out of place
One day you’re going to see
That everybody who claimed that you were loved have left
Because one by one they would disappear
Claiming all your wolves were symptoms of deceit
“Don’t let your tongue slit your throat!”
That’s what they always said
This is one last chance that you’ve got to take
It's the want of the weight when it crushed
All the centrifugal ways our lives fall in and out of place
Underneath all your doubt laid a serpents egg
Hissing his way out
You were told,
Severed tongues can’t fall onto their swords
Because you’re the only voice that calls
It’s the want of the weight when it crushed
All the centrifugal ways our lives fall in and out of place
It’s the want of the weight and the rush of the centrifugal fate we all want to escape

I have been a Mars Volta fan for so long and am overjoyed to have them back. There will not be a ‘but’ in this comment. The way their sound has matured speaks a lot to their journeys as a band; and also as individuals. It is a beautiful reminder that, as musicians, our cause/ inspirations do not have to be tied to how we began. If we tell the story of life, there must be changes as life is not static. Beautiful work *applause*

It’s a good song imo, but it’s not showing a matured sound…this is a step back from prog rock into pop…it’s weird they decided to release these recent songs under the TMV banner at all. This is completely and utterly different than pretty much all of their other discography.

Wait, I can actually understand the lyrics and don't have to get my dictionary to learn new words?? What happened? Still love them though!! My story: Bought a computer long ago and it had a track that just absorbed me: 198d. I went ahead and started searching who this band was. By the time I found out they had already split into you know who. I listen to At the Drive in and then the Mars Volta starting with Concertina. And of course I was like whoa!! I have to see this guys live!. Later on I drove to Chicago to see them at a small venue, can't remember the name. I believe it used to be a theater and they took out the seats. The bar was at the back. I will always cherish the next moment: As the opener was going on, I sat at the bar and started talking to this one guy. Not knowing that it was Ikey Owens. I told him how I drove 4 hours to see the Mars Volta and chatted with him a little bit more. After a bit he tells me he is the keyboard player. At the very end he says "I am glad you are here and I hope you like the show". He was so nice and down to earth. Rest in Peace sir!!

It’s not disingenuous at all. What would be disingenuous for them is to create or label something to try and please their fans. Skream went from producing grimy dubstep to producing deep house, could you imagine what his fans felt? Lol. He explained in an interview that fans have no idea what that name means for him. In my opinion it’s a pretty balsy move to risk losing the fans you’ve acquired for the love of your art. Opeth is another clear example of this.

@@victormiranda4664 I think this discussion ultimately comes down to what kind of TMV fan you are (or what kind of music fan you are in general). There are two main types: fans of artists, and fans of music. If you are a fan of an artist, you will likely accept any music an artist you have been following releases unconditionally because you are loyal to that artist and chock up any changes in their style to growth, and simply listen to the new style without batting an eye. Fans of music, on the other hand, listen to music an artist releases because they enjoy the style of music the artist in question has associated themselves with. When there is a case like Opeth or TMV where there is a sudden, dramatic shift in tone and style, there is a good chance that they will not listen to said music, because the band did not give them what they like. But can you blame them? If a restaurant you have grown to love starts serving food you don't like, why should you be expected to continue eating there? Ultimately, neither type of fan is less valid than the other, and I can guarantee almost everyone lies somewhere in the middle or is a different kind of fan depending on the band. TMV is completely entitled to release whatever music they please as a form of artistic expression, but it is silly that they consider fans who don't like their new style to not be fans at all. In the end, it would have been a safer bet to release this music under a different name. I apologize for being so long-winded, but i think that about sums up my thoughts, though I'd love to keep discussing this, as I am very passionate about music!

But anyone who's disappointed, stuck, clinging to the sound of their old albums is unable to realize that the whole album is as much a masterpiece as deloused, just different. A hybrid kit is an acoustic drum set along with electronic drum pads, but not for the intent of fabricating "real drum" sounds. The pads are iften used to add different layers and nuances to the music, not unlike Danny Carey of TOOL. Don't get me wrong, TMV., is one of my favorite bands, audacious, honest and experimental, and I'm sure we can expect nothing less from their new music, however I am not loving it yet. That doesn't mean it's not good, it just hasn't clicked for me yet. I know progression is the path of many great bands, however I must admit i do miss the intense aggression of their past music.

@@droptherapy2085 it’s not because a human drummer is playing on a hybrid electric-acoustic kit, and the parts were written on a real drum set. Noctorniquet was also another concept album both in story and musically, the concept being that it was originally written with only 4 notes available on the guitar parts. That is progressive and transformative. It’s meant to be simplistic. There are diehard fans of the music of The Mars Volta, and then there are diehard fans of The Mars Volta. I love them for their music, not because I like to adore the band. This isn’t transformative like the rest of their discography is. It doesn’t belong under this name, not even saying it’s not good.
