That scene is funny cause the attendant was waiting for a gift from Shiyi to the Marquis, and she has her attendant give him a tip. Then the Marquis is disappointed that he did not get a gift in return.

True, without realizing, she taught him a lesson: if you want attention, present the gift yourself, and not through the servant; before giving something - find out what she really likes. Linyi followed the stereotype: an expensive trinket (albeit made with his own hands), a return visit in gratitude for the gift (I doubt that he even gave gifts as a token of attention / Lianfang's gift is not taken into account, it was a polite way to send further). Only, he again stepped on the same rake, forgot that his young wife does not differ in standard behavior, which means she will not come running in gratitude for the gift, especially considering with what words and how it was presented to her. It must be said that he learned his lesson.
