The March to Saltillo - A New Chapter!

Donate TODAY! febt.org/campaign
After months of preparation and hard work, on March 12th, 2024, a combined Friends of the East Broad Top and East Broad Top Foundation track crew arrived at the route 475 crossing and laid 132 feet of track on the other side!! This officially marks the farthest any EBT track work has occurred in that direction since the railroad ceased freight operations 68 years ago in 1956.
This monumental milestone was also coupled with the announcement that the 2024 FEBT Campaign had reached its target goal of $220,000. With $40,000 already allocated in the campaign’s funds, which have helped make all of this possible by purchasing ties, spikes, tie plates, and ballast, FEBT has simultaneously announced that with several months remaining in the campaign, any additional funds raised will go directly to supporting the March to Saltillo!
This means YOU can help keep the momentum going by donating to the campaign today at: febt.org/campaign
Also consider getting involved in the March to Saltillo directly at: febt.org/volun...
We need YOUR support to keep progress going!!

When I joined FEBT in 1987 this was a dream. A lot of water has flowed under the bridge, so to speak, since then. I am so very, very thankful that I have lived to see this. God speed FEBT, EBTF, and East Broad Top RR.

as someone who has spent the last 17 years of my life learning as much as i could about this wonderful historic gem of a railroad, i can say with complete honesty that i am overjoyed with the progress the the FEBT and EBTF have been making over these past few years, and that i certainly look forward to the future, as more of the line opens up, and as more of the archives become available to the public, there will come more things to learn and i look forward to the next 17 years i'll spend exploring the history of the EBT deeper than i could have ever dreamed of.

Please--I urge all fans of railroading and the EBTn to make a donation, in whatever amount, to the EBT foundation. Purchasing track material is key to the progress. Ties and ballast cost money. If all the people who are excited by the progress, but currently have not donated, would make even a small donation, the impact would be enormous.

The current project goal is about 8 miles from Rockhill, PA to Saltillo, PA. The intermediate goal is Rockhill to Pogue, about three miles.

How will the trestle at Pogue get rebuilt?? Will they replace rails or just the ties???

The bridge at Pogue has been evaluated and the steelwork found to be in good condition. The piers and abutments need attention and new deck beams. This work is prepared and will be executed when funding and contactor availability is in place.

Magnificent. Now close that crossing. It’s not needed. I see a highway overpass in the background.

That overpass is not a viable road and has been closed for years, so that is not an option. The crossing is gonna stay right where it is, no big deal .

It would be way easier to just reactivate the crossing than to restore that bridge, as of now it’s in terrible shape

@@wolfzillaproductions4563 I was kidding but it does raise a real question: Who owns the crossing? Typically the railroad grants an easement to the public agency for a road crossing and they pay for its maintenance and upkeep for as long as it exists. When that crossing is reinstalled who’s on the hook for it?

There are too many variables to offer an exact timeline for the completion of this work. However, we hope to be back in Saltillo within several years. We move at the speed of labor and funding!
