Near the homonymous fishing village in the municipality of Terralba, south of the Gulf of Oristano, lies the Marceddì lagoon, which forms a long bay on the sea. In its innermost area is the pond of San Giovanni, separated from the lagoon by a barrier that determines the sweet nature of its waters, fed not by the sea but by the Rio Mogoro and the river Mannu. Here rare species of aquatic birds nest attracted by the muddy banks and the rich vegetation: the sultanian chicken, the coot, the mallard, the purple heron, the bittern, the great crested grebe. The most external part of the creek is Marceddì's body of water. Its salty waters are frequented by the cormorant, the great crested grebe and the small crested grebe, by diver ducks, by the gray heron, by the sea gull: all these species spend here the winter months. In the area, the fish hunting activity is carried out by a cooperative of fishermen that catch eels, mullets, bass, carp, which will become the main ingredients of delicious recipes.
