The MANY uses of "Que" in Spanish
¿¡Que lo que, mi gente?! In this video, I briefly go over the uses of the word "que" in Spanish. I will be doing a more in depth video soon showing the application of the word in real life.

This is exactly where Duolingo fails. They teach everything out of context.

It’s hilarious that once I start thinking in Old English, it all makes perfect sense. Thanks for that.

Yeah, this is one of my favorite things about learning Spanish ... It really makes me think deeply and analytically about how modern English works and the roots of where our terms and phrases come from. It's amazing how often "oh yeah, various older ways of speaking in English are way closer to literal translations of this" hits me and helps me understand Spanish concepts.
Thanks for this, I understand better now. I was seeing/hearing "que" everywhere and it was driving me nuts because I could tell it meant different things in different contexts but I couldn't figure it out.

Thanks for your kind words. I was actually worried that I would confuse people with this video here. Glad to see that I did not! :)
I have never seen anyone who teaches Spanish better than you
The practice at the end was genius and sitting on the bed made it so comfortable and conversational
So many people post easy to learn content. You clearly have gone through the conversion from beginners Spanish to fluency and you understand what confuses people along the way. So many of your videos focus not on basic concepts that anyone can teach but instead nuanced concepts that you really have to understand another level of meaning to teach. I can't say how much I appreciate that. Thank you. I hope that you have continued your journey with Spanish; you would make an incredible teacher. (from a medical student who spends all day learning) edit: Also you mentioned teaching students, so more so I hope you've continued to teach

Thanks! My goal is to have people leave my videos without questions in the topic at hand. Glad you noticed. And I still teach and currently I'm working on an online course because I'm getting too many teaching requests Jaja. Thanks for you kind words!

Ricky, this is the BEST explanation of "que" that I have ever seen/heard. As always you make the difficult simple. Thank You.
Where the hell were you when I needed you…. Only just found your videos and already you seem to explain on my level better than anyone else.
Thank you! I'm mostly learning Spanish with comprehensible input, but I find your videos really helpful to clear up some of the quirks that don't directly translate from English.
Me gustaba mucho este video. Sus explicaciones son muy claras. ¡Muchas Gracias !
This made me understand the use of it more! Muchas gracias🙂❤

This is awesome, often when we begin the journey Que sounds and looks like a filler word. You have rounded out all the common uses of it and it really helped. Thanks man.
The best explanation on KZread, thank you, so much!!!
I have a friend that is Spanish and you’ve been helping me a lot to understand them and what there tying to say.Thank you!!

Great video! I feel like you gave out cheat codes haha. I already knew about a lot of the many uses of que, but I didn't know about "hacer que" or the que for emphasis. *virtual thumbs up*

Lol There is so much more that I didn't even touch in this video, so stay tuned for the rest.
Cabe mencionar que también el "que" se puede emplear al inicio de una frase para expresar sorpresa o felicidad. Ejemplo" : ¿Que te vas a Argentina!!? Y también para ligar frases. Ejemplo: Ella no quiere ir. Que ya es muy tarde. (Manera coloquial de decir "es que ya es muy tarde" o "porque ya es muy tarde" También se puede hacer la cláusula subjuntiva antes de la cláusula principal si es un tema de que ya hablamos. Ejemplo: "no quiero ir. (Que) estoy enfermo" "Que estés enfermo no me importa. Vas a ir"
Super glad I found your videos. Thank you so much for these!

Gracias! Esto ayuda yo!
Great video Rickie. I recently learned about the use of , " como que" to mean "like or as if" . If you could touch on it in a future video it would be amazing I always thought using "como" and "que" together meant something else but I guess it can mean lots of other things in a sentence depending on if an accent is used or not and where. Anyway, can't wait to see your next lesson.

I'm trying to figure out how I want to display that information, because, I'm actually coming up with a program that I am going to sell. Some things I was going to save for that course, but I don't wanna leave my subscribers hanging, so I may just do it anyway, because the way that I'm setting up my course is that they will get the same lesson, but they will just have A LOT more to work with as far as practice resources, and an homework matierial and things of that sort.

"May the force be with you "🤔, In Spanish is "Qué la fuerza te acompañe" 🤔. Yes, in this case, qué means May, hum, it's interesting 🤔🤨. Soy nativo del español 😲 y me sorprende tanto el uso del "que". Lo uso mucho "que" no me doy cuenta cuando lo hago.

Que confuses me too. especially when it means "to" like Tengo que ir a la tienda
@silvestrenet
3 жыл бұрын
"to" is the use you give it in English. Tengo que ir a la tienda--- "que" in this case is tied up to verb "tener + que" I have to go to the store
I see that I'm late to the party but if you happen to see this, can you make a video like this using the word tambien, it's driving me bonkers! ...and thank you for this it helped tremendously...
You articulate yourself well explaining things. One question I have is when you say “más” sometimes it sounds like you say “má” and sometimes like you say “más”. Is that on purpose, and does that change the meaning at all?
Yo empece aprender el subjuntivo ayer. Creo que es útil al menos estar expuesto al subjuntivo antes que después. Este video fue un complemento genial. Gracias!

Hola! Muchas gracias por este video! Me ayudó mucho. However I'm not sure in which category "Que no!" would fall as a reply to a question. I'm not sure if it's more of a Spanish (from Spain) way of speaking. For example: Quieres que me voy? Que no!
omg thank you

I was confused for a moment by the sentence "El es mas alto que yo" and why it wasn't que me instead but remembering back to my ancient english classes we American english speakers say it wrong when we say "he is taller than me." Grammatically, it should be taller than I also. Just thought I'd add this if it helps someone.
Hey Rickie, I remember you replying to someone's comment of them asking how you would say "see?!" and you replied with viste. I'm wondering if viste is used mostly in the dominican dialect or do they use it in Mexico?
6 жыл бұрын
Gravity™ it's universal to say "viste" otro "ves" It's not slang but rather a literal translation

The first ¿Qué? was a small set back for me because I didn't know the "what" I wanted was actually cuál and that ¿Qué? = la significa

Here's how "Qué" and "Cuál" work. Qué - mostly means "what", but can mean which in that specific case. Cuál - Mostly means which, but can sometimes mean what. I'll do a whole video on the differences. : )
