I'm 72. The early 80's went to fox theater, st louis. Not wanting to be distracted by a friend going with me, went by myself. 3 shows. Fri, sat and sunday I think. Walked up to ticket window and found out that.because I was wanting only 1 ticket, i could have ushers seat on the aisle, row 2 or 3. Took the seat for all 3 days. I dont think I blinked at all ...o couldn't get enough of them. Memories......

This is one of the groups that I wanted to sound like and perform like when I attended a HS for the Performing Arts in the late 70s until 1980. Their vocals and harmonies are always tight as a group and as individuals, and they gave amazing live performances too. Billy Joel even pays tribute to them and this version of Gloria in his song: River of Dreams by singing a part of Gloria at the very end of it. That is a huge compliment and honor from a true music legend and they absolutely deserve it. In fact if I found out that someone like Billy Joel even thought about using my version of a song but he later decided not to use it, that would be the only award, accolade I would ever need in life as an Artist.

I loved Manhattan Transfer , saw them live in London several times 1978-82 and this was always one of the highlights. Alan Paul would reappear on stage wearing a black leather bikers jacket , white vest and greased hair with quiff . Midway through he’d throw the jacket away and tear through his vest , the women went crazy as he hit the top note . Undoubtedly he grew up listening , singing and practicing to this song but which version was his main influence - in truth I really don’t know but my guess is The Passions 1962 cover and he nails the vocal delivery superbly so all props to him however The Cadillacs original is one of if not the greatest Doo Wop record ever made.
