The Mandalorian | 2x8 Chapter 16: The Rescue - REACTION!

Ойын-сауық

I don't even know what to write here, lol. But I think the reaction speaks for my lack of words right now. What a season finale! What did you all think? This is such a good time to be a Star Wars fan, I can't even! 😂
Remember this is not a substitute for watching the actual show.
If you haven't seen it, then please do so (available on Disney+) and then come back to the video afterwards.

TFA was actually fine. Not great but good enough for a setup. No one was really pissed off. The real idiot here was Rian Johnson who was the catalyst in making it go downhill at lightspeed. Good director but not meant for this at all. He tries too hard to make a change when the movies needs is understanding. He was the one who butchered the character of Luke in TLJ. Everyone else after that have been doing their best to course correct all the inane decisions made in TLJ. They won't say but I'm pretty sure everyone in the business are just pissed off with him.

In 1977... I was 5 years old... It was in the summer. I remember waking up and my older brother and sister were so excited, they were getting ready to go somewhere... and I asked... "What's going on?" My brother said... "Get ready! We're going to the movies!!" I had NEVER been to see a movie, never experienced going to a theater and watching a film. So I got up, and my mom helped me get dressed... and I remember sitting down on my bed as she tied my shoes and I asked... "Mommy, what's gonna happen?" She said, "You'll see." So, we picked up a newspaper and got the showtimes. We got to the Northwest Theaters... and it was PACKED with people, kids everywhere... I was scared... there was a huge crowd of people. I held my mom and dads hand tight, I had never been or seen so many people in my life... Then we walked into the theater and my dad looked down at me and asked... "Do you want some popcorn and a soda?" I said, "They have that here?" He laughed and got me small popcorn and a medium soda to share. I will say this, that small popcorn was huge and so was the soda. I remember waiting in an area that was roped off... and the usher came out and he said... "We will start seating you all in a few minutes... AND MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!" (Sorry... shedding some tears right now as I remember.) My eyes widened and after a few minutes, we went in, my dad holding my soda and my mom holding my popcorn... I held my mom and dads hands so tight as we walked down a dark hall, I looked for my brother and sister and they were right behind me, my sister smiled at me, and my brother said... "This is gonna be awesome." I was scared, but excited... my FIRST MOVIE! We sat down right in the middle of the theater, it was packed, I could hear kids talking, laughing everyone was excited... then suddenly the curtain parted and I saw a "Big tv !!" I pointed and said to my dad. My mom said, "That's a movie screen." Then the lights went down... I sat forward in my seat and my mom sat me back, put the popcorn in my lap, and held my soda for me... Then I saw "Lucasfilm ltd"... I asked my mom... "Is this it?" She said... "Shhhh... just watch.".... then suddenly... "STAR WARS!!!" The music was so loud, my mouth dropped open...then the intro scrolled on the screen, my mother read it to me in a whisper, I leaned over to her to hear what she was saying... then... I saw the space ships... with lasers... my mouth dropped open again... then I saw C3PO, and R2D2...then... Vader... That day CHANGED my life forever... I will never forget it... sorry if this was long, but I just wanted to share that experience and how much Star Wars means to me, and I see all of us...

This is my favorite reaction coverage for The Rescue and Luke’s appearance. You both make a wonderful team. Sonny with the eagle eye for details - the R2 unit in the X-Wing, the right saber... not just that it’s green but that it’s ~right~, all the little details and continuity callbacks that showcase deep knowledge; and Kat so keyed into the emotional experience and symbolism - the helmet removal showing how he’s opening up and growing, the no-artwork and somber score intended to have the audience just sit in stunned silence and try to take it in. Bravo!

I'm 47 and the joy was overwhelming for me. Brought me to tears too bro. I've waited over 37 years for this. It's like Star Wars finally came full circle. When I was a kid, my uncle (who passed away due to Covid earlier this year) took me to see Return of the Jedi on opening weekend. I will never forget that moment when, at the Pit of Sarlacc, when Luke sprang into the air and caught the lightsaber that R2D2 launched over to him. When that green lightsaber lit up, the ENTIRE theater was darn near on their feet and ROAAAAAARED with cheers and applause. Now, 37 years later the venue (KZread vs. theater) has changed, but the fan reactions have not. So freakin awesome! I love watching all of these reaction videos.

Luke is probably the bogeyman to the Imperials in the know. One X-Wing craft makes it to the first Death Star and blows it up with a single well placed missile. A few years later, that same X-Wing arrives at the Death Star 2, and it's sole living occupant enters the Emperor's Throne Room, faces down both the Emperor and Vader, and is the only one to walk out alive with the Death Star 2 being destroyed shortly after. To the ISB the Rebellion was a minor problem, crippled after the battle of Scarif before this one man showed up. Just one man taking apart entire groups of Stormtroopers, disappearing into thin air whenever they hunt him and evading even Vader, before resurfacing and dismantling the leadership of the Empire.

There's a quote by Simon Pegg about geekdom, about how being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection, about proudly emoting rather than behaving like a supposed adult. I feel people spend so much of our time trying to play it cool, cosplaying the calm, collected, fully armed and operational battle adult, that taking that mask off is often unthinkable. That's why your reaction was so unspeakably beautiful, Sonny. The sheer, unfiltered joy. The soft gasp of genuine awe and disbelief as the green lightsaber came into the frame, almost hesitant, as if the vision were a fragile thing, ready to shatter and vanish if your reaction were to be too intense, the tears, and sobs, and the raw, unfiltered vulnerability they revealed. And, next to you, Kat, with infinite tenderness, holding that space for you, in gentle understanding, support, and shared happiness. In a world of masks, what you showed us was precious beyond quantification. So while I can only speak for myself, believe me when I say that I definitely didn't mind seeing a grown-ass man cry. If anything, this reaction shows why I love this channel, and think the world of you two. Thank you so, so very much, for inviting us into your lives, and sharing a fragment of it. Take care. x

I think its the whole reality-escaping aspect of nerddom that I don't like to see in myself and in other people, as well as seeing people get emotional over fan-servicy stuff or seeing new IPs presented in new formats while the corporate owner reap a profit. This episode though showed me how deep and powerful "geeky" emotions can go for people. They really are cultural signifiers, shared experiences, and things we can get emotional about without shame. This episode has been the best thing about 2020. For all the turmoil and isolation everyone has gone through, it's so good to have platforms like this to feel connected with other people. You can see other people have the exact same emotional roller coaster ride as Luke shows and gets what feels like redemption. And experience the bittersweet sadness as Jin knows the child is finally safe, but has to say goodbye. This episode was perfect in every way. Thanks for letting us in your living room to watch. ;o)

Ive seen most of the reactions now and Sonny's is the most beautiful I think. There are a few like him who show how deeply they are invested in the scene by crying. It really is something to see your hero in action :)

39-year old man. I cried as well. Luke was our childhood hero and seeing him like that was all we wanted. This show really makes the sequels feel like they purposely gave fans a giant middle finger. It’s crazy Disney let that happen after Avengers: Endgame was just full of fan service.

This was my favorite fan reaction to this episode, loved seeing this. Thank you for sharing it :) I'm over 50 with kids and cried as well at the appearance of Luke scene (I started to get my hopes up as soon as I saw it was a single X-Wing and that hope jumped exponentially when I saw the green lightsaber) and then again at Din showing Grogu his face and saying farewell. Just hits in all the feels. The Mandalorian has been firing on all cylinders for us, the whole family has enjoyed this - from an old school diehard fan to the current generation or up and coming fans :D
