Smart of Austin protecting his legacy, WWE certainly weren't going to do it at that time. They only bothered protecting the legacy of Undertaker as time went on. And as a result their roster nowadays is a who's who of who? Even Roman Reigns, while a big deal to the WWE Universe-tm, is just another guy in the big picture. WWE have forgotten how to put on an appealing wresting show, and since they are the mainstream standard bearer of wresting, it's had the knock-on effect of making wrestling as an entire medium less cool/impactful. When the guy in charge looks like the red stapler dude from Office Space, it doesn't matter how cool the other guys around him are. They're just made lesser by association. AEW is the younger cooler guy, and NJPW is a badass bruce-lee mofo... but they're still in the gaudy wrestling carnival big-top that smells of farts and despair thanks to WWE's mismanagement of the entire industry. >__>

From what I read, that's a rumor. Coachman said last year that Austin just didn't show up. Coach was going to receive a stunner then have a dress put on. So it sounds like Austin just didn't want to wrestle Coachman.

@@SM4XX Sounds like one of the many times Austin just got cold feet. He wanted to do it, but always had the idea of his last match being real match being the perfect way to end his career vs. The Rock. Its actually amazing he came out of retirement to work with Owens, but at least that was a WM match.

I can't believe he actually had that many matches. The most I remembered about him in the ring was just his awesome theme

I met coach after a house show in Wichita, KS (where he’s from). He’s actually the most down to earth and kind wrestling personality I’ve ever encountered. He stayed behind for almost two hours while the other guys snuck out the back, signing autographs and conversing with everyone which he seemed to genuinely enjoy. He’s a class act and a real one

Coachman can literally get on the mic and say “I’ve been in the ring with legends like Goldberg, John Cena, Batista, Jerry Lawler etc etc” and he wouldn’t be lying! Lol.

Tajiri's gotta be one of the most consummate professionals in the business. It's unbelievable how much heat he let Coach get in during that match lol.

Looking back, he actually looked pretty good as far as build, wasn't bad talking, and could have been trained to be a midcard guy. One thing I always liked about Coach is away from WWE he had a charisma to him that sometimes doesn't translate to wrestling, but seeing him in his projects away from wrestling was pretty cool.

Not to mention that he had actual athletic ability, being a successful collegiate basketball player. It's obvious that he didn't want to be a wrestler and Vince probably convinced to have matches every so often because Vince got a kick out of him.

Nah he sucked once you take off the rose-tinted glasses you can see why shit like this caused viewership to plummet around the time.

I actually laughed when the lady with the cookies came out and it worked as a distraction on Eugene. I’ll give the ruthless aggression writers a pass there, this in theory was a two pronged distraction, because any other male wrestler would probably be distracted by the girl being in a bikini but with Eugene it’s the cookies. Fair play lol

I never knew that until years later I remember at the time they were supposed to have a match (I always thought why is Austin wrestling Coach?) but then Monday they showed Batista wrestling instead which confused me not just because “what happened to Austin?” But also because Batista was on SmackDown at the time

Coach was always one of my ‘guilty pleasure’ favorite “wrestlers” to watch. He was funny as hell, and watching him sell hellacious beatings was always great! Even though it’s considered one of the worst matches of all time, Coach vs JR is so bad that it’s awesome. That Stunner by JR…😂🤣

Coach himself usually isn't the problem. It's how they book him.

Coach may not have had mat classics, but he elicited a great response from the crowd. Look at how the crowd cheers when he is losing. I think he did a fine job. I bet the 74% was legit, fans loved watching Coach get his. A classic heel who has no wrestling skills, and gets by by cheating and getting the crowd against him.

29 matches? That's insane. Way more than I remember. I vote the Coach and Hornswoggle feud as the shittiest feud in wrestling history. I just remembered this guy as that one guy who had funny segments with The Rock

The coach was one of the best parts of the post attitude era. He was such a tool, he leaned into it, and it was entertaining.

Coach was a lackey he was meant to fight who ever was funding with the authority and got destroyed by them. They were meant to be ran over. Similar to roles to brisco and Patterson were for Vince earlier on but worse.

Coach wasn’t one of my favorites or anything but one of my favorites memories as a kid is of him. My 1st ever WWE live event I was a major mark so my mom took me. It was while Batista was fighting HHH for the championship while Evolution was breaking up. It was a house show so no cameras and Coach was the announcer and he would talk when they were stalling I guess. Well I yelled out “Coach is a jackass” since I wasn’t allowed to cuss this was all I was allowed to yell to him and he looked at me pointed right at me and told me “You shut the hell up” I was 9 or 10 so I thought it was the coolest thing ever I’ll never forget it. Also Torrie Wilson flashed us so that was also amazing hahaha

I have a ton of memories of these Matches I'd gladly watch this over anything Currently On WWE TV these were so bad it's good this was very entertaining IMO.

You might have had go away heat for him but people LOVED to hate him. The cheers when he’s losing and boos when he’s winning is exactly the goal. The only go away heat is people being quiet. He got more crowd reaction than a lot of the mid card guys on the card

How the hell did Coach get more matches on the main show than Sean O’Haire 😂 Also, is it possible we can see Gene Snitsky on Ring of the Hawk? Not sure how many matches he had on the main shows, but just remember, if he ends up in the Shuvit zone, it’s NOT his fault.

Before Michael Cole had his atrocious heel run, there was Jonathan Coachman.

Honestly; he's great. You can diss the booking as much as you want, but he sells well, bumps well, has good fundamentals and has a very expressive face. If he was just some random wrestling trainee I think we'd be saying he has all the tools he needs to be a decent midcarder.

Jonathan Coachman was basically what Byron Saxton is now, if Byron Saxton was actually funny and could talk.

The coach was just a joke. He was entertainment. He was funny. His segment was to help the crowd. They rarely weren’t into him getting beat up. He did his job well.

2003 RAW tag team and intercontinental scene was phenomenal. RVD & Kane, La resistance, The dudley boyz were going at each other throughout the summer. Booker T, Christian, Jericho, RVD were putting classics after classics for intercontinental title. Coach had a brief stint managing heels such as Mark henry and a stooge for Eric.

Except people didn’t change the channel. Also the crowd loved it. They booed at the right time and cheered at the right time. The only “change the channel” heat is when people are quiet

Idk what your talking about. The coach was fun to watch and I do miss seeing him on raw. Him and Erick together were gold.

I liked his role as a Corporate stooge to vince and did some funny stuff with dx and was just put in joke matches to take a beatings mainly.

I was already long done watching wrestling by this point but would check it out for 5-10 minutes here and there. It was jarring to see Coachman having such a prominent on-screen role as he was still just a backstage interviewer when I stopped watching. During the few times I checked out this era of WWE, I saw Coachman as having go-away heat, like literally all he did was make me want to change the channel...and that's exactly what I did.

Coach was ROCKS BEST DANCE PARTNER and hurricane Rock could feud with any job guy and get them over . Talent
