when ever I come across Ramanujan only one thought crosses my mind. I wouldn't think twice to give away my life if that added ten years to his life.

I admire the sentiment, truly, and I don't mean to diminish it. This goes to the other responders as well Yet the first scene of this compilation started, and the video hesitated for a second, loading. I saw these two figures looking over the sea from a beach. And it made me think immediately, whether they are family or lovers, how beautiful a scene that is... Two people simply being there. Imagining a slice of infinity, whether symbolized by the seas that precede us just as much as they'll be there after our passing, or by them sharing that moment, sharing connections like atoms bind. Imagine seeing them from a distance, passing by. Perhaps they are musing about possibilities in their lives, divulging dreams and aspirations, perhaps they are overcoming trauma, or realizing how much they mean to each other. Either way, it made me think of something. Theoretical and conceptual understanding may never quite grasp the short infinities you endure during this lifetime, what you share with yourself and others. There are things that sciences cannot discover, but are experienced. Whether they are family, friends, or lovers, something of infinity that cannot be equated to mathematics, is found in life, simply in being there, looking into one another's eyes, finding infinity there, in their bond, and our ability to share in it. There is something in being, existing, life, that sciences can't quite grasp. ''You are my everything.'' I could go on for a transfinite amount of sentences, about how isolated our experiences are, how only we feel the feelings and think the thoughts we do, experience from our bodies, and how this is an isolation we all share in, a loneliness that connects us, for we all endure it. How that isolation dissolves itself. Perhaps sacrificing your life for a chance at societal progress through the guarentee of many more mathematical breakthroughs is the right thing to do. It is noble, for sure. Living your life is too. Especially if you are the kind of person willing to sacrifice it for what you perceive, however well-informed, to be the greated good (which can be a terrible and heinous thing too!). There are things even the greatest genuises cannot transumte to simple or complex theorems, formulas, and equations. Some things cannot or don't need to quite be explained. Sharing these short infinities with one another, are how we all become people who know infinity. ''I spent my entire life at that point looking for infinity, and I found it there, in her eyes'', the black iris, where light comes to die, holes as the windows to the soul. And just maybe, Ramanujan would tell you to live your life, denying you your sacrifice, as his vocation was just an aspect of the life he lost. You are willing to discard your own life simply for him to contribute to science more than he already did? Denying the world of yourself, and who is to tell what that means? Sure Ramanujan would go on to do the same WHILE working his magic, continuing the work the world was deprived of by his death. But then again, your hypothetical is impossible for all we know. So you might as well make the most of your life in both regards: loving the ones closest to you, while contributing to leaving this world a better place than it was once you entered it.

Why is this such a common thing among Indians? Are you all taught to think like this, that if someone of merely the same NATIONALITY as you achieves something great, you instantly get to claim success on their behalf? Do you really have so few achievements/good qualities of your own? Sad.
He was a clarke before getting British acknowledgement - then he became a college professor. Only after Brits certified his genius as authentic. Story of our nation, and people still wonder there's so much brain drain

It is even happening as we speak. Indian education system is not actually indian, It is of britishers who wanted to hire indians as clerks. If we had our gurukul system we would have learnt many more important life and social skills with an aim in life. I support this system which would help you in your life's journey and not some rote memorising shit britishers implemented here to get 9-5 jobs. We had many achievents before they came. All our creativity went down the drain after they came.

@@gauravpatil7977 You CAN NOT compare two Mathematicians, just get that in your head. Just pick up any Indian 11th grade Mathematics textbook and open the chapter 'Sets' and go through it. You'll find questions like : "Is the collection of good badminton players a set?" Answer : No. It's just an opinion and so is the fact that you say that Ramanujan was better than Newton. There are no rights and wrongs when it comes to opinions unless you have something for reference. Now, Newton gave us Calculus, Laws of Motion, Universal Law of Gravitation, a foundation for Optics and the list continues. Ramanujan made great contributions to Number Theory and his list of accomplishments continues as well. Ramanujan DID use Calculus and if Newton hadn't invented it, how do you think Ramanujan would have used it? Sure, Leibniz did invent it too and over the period of so many years, some other Mathematician probably would have invented it. But, if it wasn't for the Mathematicians preceding Ramanujan, he himself wouldn't have been able to make as many contributions. Now, if you have assumed that I favor Newton over Ramanujan, you totally missed my point. What I'm trying to prove here is not that one of the two is superior to the other, no. I'm trying to prove that all Mathematicians are equally important and they can only be compared by the domain of their work, iff (if and only if) they have a common domain. And as far as I know, Ramanujan and Newton did NOT have a common domain, hence, they can not be compared. That's like comparing an electrical engineer to a software engineer (if that's easier to understand). Also, comparing two Mathematicians with a common domain of work is also not fair if they were born in different times (that's what I think) due to the difference in availability of resources. So, to conclude this, Mathematicians and Scientists can not be compared, at all.

@@rajdeepsindhu9268 u literally typed that much..btw,calculus was in existence in india way before newton invented and i agree that newton reinvented it but the genius of ramanujan was he did not use logical or rational faculty of his mind to find those equations but it was his intuitional mind that was so focused on mathematics that he himself did not know how those things came to him, his ability to find complex correct equations easily without having had to prove them was astonishing..not all mathematicians can do that, euler was like him..so my point was this intuitional ability is what seperates men..newton was no doubt a great mathematician but in terms of the above mentioned ability i think ramanujan had an upper hand over other mathematicians and finding such a level of mathematical equations in such a short life is no joke.
