My Dear, you got it wrong. The Bank did not buy Goodwood. KTP bought it under his umbrella of companies at 3B Malacca street. I worked in Malayan Banking Bhd from 1962 to 72. I worked in the Accts Dept. I knew the details during that time.

if you go to Bangsar ..there is Jalan Maarof. Who is Maarof? Maybe many knew him as the father of actor Mustapha Maarof. Maarof is a govt servant turned businessman. He made his name in the business world as a Malay. He founded a bank for Malay businessman which was said to be doing very well. Unfortunately Maarof was kidnapped and eventually killed by unknown parties for unknown reason.

Seeing a few comments here saying that the bank was stolen by the government. Yes, maybe. But what were the alternatives? Let the banks collapse along with the Malaysian economy? Or borrow from IMF? That didn't go well with some of the countries that did that. Curious to know what could've been done back then to save the banks that wouldn't have involved the government forcing the mergers.

Everything but the part where Khoo stole malays money in Malaysia and Brunei and funnel it to Singapore. But later on he was convicted for fraud and breach of trust in Singapore.
