The Man Who Built New York City With No Money | Larry Silverstein

In this episode of Big Shot, we sit down with another legendary real estate developer, Larry Silverstein. Best known for the 99-year lease he signed for the World Trade Center, just six weeks before 9/11, Larry’s story is one of persistence and strategic partnerships-and a whole lot of chutzpah. He shares with us today how he leveraged partnerships, refurbished properties on a shoestring budget and built a business that today is valued at over $10 billion. As with many successful Jewish entrepreneurs, family is at the center of it all, and Larry speaks with extreme gratitude about his children and wife Klara. You won’t want to miss hearing about how Larry very narrowly missed being at ground zero during 9/11, and how his wife supported his efforts in rebuilding the World Trade Center.

I love how excited you both are to talk to Larry. It’s refreshing to see you both show it. Many podcasters try to act like they aren’t excited as if they want to appear on the same level as a guest with decades of knowledge and success to contribute. This is beautiful.

And I felt like I was sitting on the edge of my seat also LOL, in anticipation of what Larry was sharing here... What shines through so much in each episode is the incredible values in family, relationships, personal, business and finance that these awe-inspiring Men have - the world needs more of that. Thankyou to you both!... And Harley and David, I hope you don't mind me putting in a request for a guest... I'd love to see you interview Bob Burg (Go-Giver series and 5 Laws of Stratospheric Success) on "Big Shot". The impact he's had in the world of business has been life-changing for so many... An incredibly inspiring Jewish Man and Leader. PS... I loved hearing about Larry and Klara's relationship... and how they powerfully and beautifully have each other's back. Incredible man, you gents asked great questions and let him speak for the most part. Way to go. I took away so many subtle things from his stories. Two of which were his relationship building and his love and respect and partnership with his wife. His character in congratulating Steve Ross and offering the great financing and then calling him directly to hear from him the deal had fallen through. I loves this mans rags to riches story. His roll w the punches attitude about twice losing large lease deals and his Hutzpah and continuous fortitude in working on financing on the very first deal. Had me leaving the episode wanting me to be a better man.

One of the things I noticed was that Mr. Silverstein has vision that is not stained by greed (a very human fault, often an addiction, I believe is at the root of much of what ails society) His heart is joyous and so his vision is vast and a blessing to us all. Thank you for sharing this amazing man with us.
