Why do you think people who have encountered bears alone in the woods and didn’t come back, don’t come back? Same that sounds far more interesting and that famous debate will never cease to end lol. Apparently there have been two known cases of people beating a bear in a fight unarmed. It’s actually wild though the one guy had his arm down the bear’s throat and while the bear was tearing up his arm he bit into the bear’s neck and beat it to death with a stick after it passed out from blood loss. So I guess it is possible but you have to be one of the most metal people alive to pull it off with a large dose of luck

Most those myths can be summed up with “Stop following strangers into the woods, especially strange women”. “Leave random strangers in the woods alone unless they ask for help, and look around you even then.” The only problem is that men still follow strange women, whether we like it or not. I’m sure women have used this to set up muggings, ambushes, and death traps before. Men need to figure out who’s following random women, and stop him.

The Bear is a wild animal that can kill you. It does not have the capacity for higher thought and cannot be reasoned with. However, it's not guaranteed to kill you if it's not hungry or doesn't find you to be worthy prey (ie: if black, act like a monkey to scare it, and if brown chill on the ground). The Man is less likely to kill you since he does have that intellectual capacity. However, in the chance that he does kill or harm you, it could be in a more brutal way. Personally, I'd go with the man since there's always dudes just hiking that you'll run into, and most of the time they're pretty chill. If you're a woman who has had previous bad experiences with men, I would understand choosing the bear

I was team man until I realized it completely depends on the type of bear you get. If every bear in the world was in the pool to be picked, you'd have less than a 1% chance to get a bear that would attack you on sight. 99% chance to get a bear that just runs away, you can scare off, or trick by playing dead. On top of that, most people actually survive bear attacks. Brown and Black bears have a 90%+ survival rate if you're able to get your wounds treated. Even polar bears, who most people would think is instant GG, have around a 70% survival rate.

I actually researched this to try to learn what the stats would be and the general gist is for bears, all the research is really on Adult humans being eaten by them. One thing I saw was that some bears are more deadly than others, and small bears might not attack a human if the human looks too big to take on. Male bears are less deadly than female bears with cubs, who will almost always kill you. Since this question is about kids, the situation would be way more grim. I didn't know how to calculate the stats for human men offending against kids but its well less than 1%. Basically a kid near a bear would die near 100% of the time near a mother bear defending cubs or 50-80% otherwise depending on escape routs and such, and probably like .1% in danger at most with a human man

Do men harm women? Yes, but women also harm women so what is your point? Statistics don't matter in a case like this because people are unpredictable, which is also the reason why so many picked bear over man because a bear is arguably more predictable and yet the question focuses on MEN and not HUMANS. Can we please stop acting like we are a different species and recognise that we are both humans? These types of hypothetical questions and other comments about mistrusting men might be seen as valid by some but by others like me I only see them as trying to separate the genders into stereotypes and even worse. Humans can be cruel, no matter man or woman, period. The issues that this question wants to address such as rape, torture and other crimes cannot be addressed by this, and in fact might never be addressed because sadly humanity will be like this, why does that mean we should put a gap between women and men ans not just mistrust ANYONE because anyone can do it to you if they really wanted to?

Yes. As a woman, a strange man alone is scary. If he’s using the buddy system like a normal worker, it could still be dangerous, but is much less alarming, particularly if at least one other woman is around. Nobody heads deep into the forest to operate a chainsaw, without a partner.
