The Man the King Delights to Honor - Timothy Keller [Sermon]

Tim Keller sermons via Gospel in Life: Haman, who plots to kill the Jews exiled in Persia, exemplifies pride and its downfalls. His pride manifests itself in self-absorption, an inability to learn from his mistakes, a progression into more serious forms of evil, and a blindness to his own pride. Pride is overcome by forgetting oneself and clothing oneself in the overwhelming praise of the Father through Christ.

Not just about why people are treating eachother the way they are, racism, lawlessness etc but also about our sickness of seeking other peoples approval and valuing other peoples opinions more than God's. we ALL need this HEALING

wow! this is one of the greatest sermons I've heard. especially the last part where it clarifies that God conflicts with pride because we try to get evaluated by ourselves rather than by God! brilliance!

Thank you! This is a very deep analysis of selfishness and pride. The way our life flows and what people expect from us, and how we see ourself pushes us into being so proud and blind. So sneaky.

Thanks for sharing! It seems so easy for one to mis-perceive an instance of the praiseworthy and hence to seek praise from a wrong source; pray that God himself assures us that we know for sure that He is the one and only member of the praiseworthy and Jesus already gave us the "praise".

I don't agree with the premise that a person suffering with self esteem issues is necessarily prideful and thus evil. A person, or even and animal, that is in sever pain may be INCAPABLE of thinking about anything beyond their own pain. Someone who has been emotionally damaged by abuse or neglect as a child is not necessarily prideful if they are less than "well balanced". Neither is someone who is neurodiverse (autism, bipolar disorder, etc). Head injuries can affect personality. Anxiety is not necessarily a result of worry due to a prideful desire to control. It's just not that simple.

I think there’s probably a lack of depth in regards to this. I think that’s probably true, But it’s sooooo hard to address these things. It has to be thought of - of course, How do we deal with trauma victims, children who have been abused, neurodiveragence... So, Yes, I think it is more so, The way that pride affects our need for approval!

Reba Nelson I agree it's really not that simple sometimes some one has gone through trauma and abuse some times it's some other condition. The thing I love about God though is that He knows us individually and knows our conditions intimately and so He would never make sweeping generalisations about us the way other people do

It's not true in a cases but it was in mine. I had severe depression and low self esteem 15 years ago and realizing that nursing it had at least a small pride element (due to this sermon) helped me immensely. I was then able to grow and heal from a lifetime of hating myself
